Sorry, I just posted about this on a different message board but I’m a little bit pressed for time. [name]Baby[/name] is actually here but without a name. It’s down to [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name]. Husband prefers [name]Violet[/name], I prefer [name]Clementine[/name]. I think it’s a wonderful name but [name]Violet[/name]'s nice too. I think [name]Violet[/name] appeals to more people. (A brother-in-law gave a flat out NO to [name]Clementine[/name] but that doesn’t bother me.) I’ll go for either. But I’m wondering how popular [name]Violet[/name] seems and how trendy. I guess [name]Clementine[/name] will be considered trendy too but you know what I mean. [name]Will[/name] people hear [name]Violet[/name] and say, ‘Oh, yeah, I know a so and so who named her daughter that…’. [name]Will[/name] she have two other classmates named [name]Violet[/name]? [name]Will[/name] people hear [name]Clementine[/name] and wither inside? This may be the wrong place to ask because I think tastes tend to run similar on this site. Any thoughts? THANKS!
I think both are really lovely names. Ny neice is actually a [name]Violet[/name]. With that being said, both names have celebrity followings and will be quite trendy, if not already. If you like one and he likes the other, just flip a coin take it out of both your hands.
What about using both, fn and mn? I prefer [name]Clementine[/name] though.
I posted on your other board, but I’d like to continue here. Honestly, I don’t hate [name]Violet[/name], but I think it is too popular. But [name]Clementine[/name] is perfect. It’s not weird at all, it’s actually quite a pretty name and heading for revival. Not overpopularity, but revival–people are seeing how beautiful it is. I think it’s an amazing, foolproof choice for your daughter.

I think it’s time to look at baby, go ahead, look down. Now, this is no longer ‘a’ name it’s her name, so who is she? Is she [name]Violet[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]? Or is she [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Violet[/name]?
[name]Both[/name] are fabulous names, but I think we here at NB stress too much, the outside world doesn’t hold our reverence for these names, you are far more likely to know an [name]Emily[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], and [name]Olivia[/name] than another five Violets. She may run into a [name]Violet[/name] in her life, she may run into a [name]Clementine[/name], but my name has been in the top 100 since a while back, [name]Gabrielle[/name], and I have met three and know of five in total. I bet both choices will be similar to my experience.
I would pick [name]Violet[/name]. I think the name is more classical and much prettier than [name]Clementine[/name]. Clemetine is okay but very hipster right now. Plus [name]Ive[/name] never liked the “clem” begining. If it were me and I were choosing for myself I would love to called [name]Violet[/name]. It is such a feminine yet serious name. It if not frilly but still has a light airy quality to it. Clemetine is a bit clunky imo.
[name]Ive[/name] never met a [name]Violet[/name] of any age in real life. I just asked my nephews and neither of them have any in their school. I dont think it is that popular honestly.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Violet[/name], and I don’t think it’s as popular as it may seem. I would not use [name]Clementine[/name], if only to save my daughter the annoyance of people singing “Oh my darlin’” at her constantly.
I prefer [name]Violet[/name] personally but after all the work you did to bring her into the world I think you should get the final say! That was our deal anyways… DH said after carring the baby for 9 months, how ever many hours of labor you went through, and the physical stress of actual delivery… You’ve earned it!
Let us know what you decide??!
I like both names a lot. Sorry!
i agree with lindsaylikes and erinpurple!
i prefer violet since it’s more familiar as a name. but like clementine from the movie eternal sunshine of a spotless mind. neither is really that popular at all.
but if you like clementine better, go with that. i guess since i’m not married i don’t understand, but why do husbands get a say? unless your DH has serious strong opinions against clementine, you should win the tie-breaker.
good luck! let us know what you decide!
[name]Hi[/name] Criddy (and erinpurple)! I really like both [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]! AND (but?) I agree with erinpurple on this–DH should capitulate to [name]Clementine[/name] with a happy smile and a back rub for you!
Good luck!
P.
Why shouldn’t he have a say? It’s his daughter, too.
I love [name]Violet[/name]! I agree with the pp that [name]Violet[/name] will never be as popular as [name]Emily[/name], [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Madison[/name]!
Oh, boy! It’s me and still no name. But first of all, THANKS so much for all the input. It’s so great to hear all these thoughts. And helpful. (I know, I know… still no name despite your helpfulness… but really it does help to hear what you think.)
Today I typed into google ‘[name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Clementine[/name]’ and the answers were not positive. Anyone who didn’t think of the fruit thought of the old song and anyone who thought of the old song hated it. I know I’m the one deciding but for my daughter’s sake, I’d hate for everyone to cring at the sound of her name.
I do like [name]Violet[/name]. It goes well with the mn [name]Melva[/name] (my grandmother’s name which is important for me to use although it doesn’t flow with many names!) But I’m just so worried about the popularity factor. It may be just so-so popular right now but what about in five years. I looked up [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] and they flew into popularity also. I guess it’s a bad sign that everyone I mention [name]Violet[/name] to just loves the name.
[name]Do[/name] you think it will get to top fifty? Top ten?
SIGH. Poor little thing needs a name. Right now she’s just [name]Birdie[/name]. I’m ready for her to have a name. SIGH.
Thanks again, everyone!
And no, I am not going to name her [name]Birdie[/name].
love [name]Violet[/name] and i don’t think its too nice its just beautiful
Two blog posts, one from the daily beast (I think it was written by [name]Pamela[/name] of nameberry fame actually!) and one on baby name wizard both put [name]Violet[/name] in the top 10 in 10 years. I def think they are right.
I hope you made a decision, I would love to hear it!
