[name_f]My[/name_f] husband was thinking Asthma, we love the meaning (Arabic for supreme) and we like how sci-fi/fantasy it sounds.

For a boy, I was thinking Endo. I like O-ending names and Endo is quite sci-fi, a bit like Asthma!

What are your thoughts? Also, any cute nickname ideas for these names?

Our last name is [name_u]James[/name_u], for context!

Endo is cute! It reminds me slightly of several medical conditions (endometriosis, endocarditis, etc). Asthma is strictly asthma (the condition) to me, and I don’t think I could ever see it as a name. Maybe you’d like Otto, Endymion, or Enzo if you like Endo and Alethea or Althea instead of Asthma? Is there a chance you meant the name Asma instead? If so, I think it’s really cute!

As someone who has asthma, unfortunately I don’t really see the name as anything else… I do see what you mean about how cool sci-fi it sounds, but I just see the breathing thing. Maybe something the same style or similar sounding, like Xena, Alma, or something else?
Ooh, Nova would be cool!

Endo is cool, the nn Endi is cute.
The name Zeno also came to mind.

I just thought of the name Alia! Similar and sci-fi. :blush:

If you like Endo, you might also like [name_m]Ender[/name_m], like from the sci-fi fantasy book “Ender’s Game”.

Yeah, I’m with previous commenters: Endo is only endometriosis to me (as someone who’s had it all my adult life) and Asthma is only the medical condition asthma.

my thoughts

  • both of those names are distinct and memorable
  • asthma may have some negative connotations due to its association with the medical condition, but if you are comfortable with that, it could be a meaningful choice
  • endo has a futuristic sound and could be seen as a nod to science fiction and technology
