I'm pretty sure this is a no.....

I’m determined to use my mother’s name [name]Pamela[/name] for a future daughter. I’m pretty sure I’ll just use it as a middle, but does anyone think it would be cute to use the nn [name]Ella[/name] for [name]Pamela[/name] if I did use it for a first name? I would never just go with [name]Pamela[/name]. [name]Ela[/name] would just be weird, so it would have to be one of those nns that isn’t exactly dead on. Part of me hates it, part of me thinks it’s kind of cute. What do you think?

I think [name]Ella[/name] for [name]Pamela[/name] is cute.

I think [name]Ella[/name] is a great alternative to [name]Pam[/name] or [name]Pammy[/name] as a nn for [name]Pamela[/name]. I don’t think nn’s have to be dead on to work.
([name]Mila[/name] or [name]Mellie[/name] could work as well though more of a stretch).

[name]Ella[/name] would be really cute, even if it was a bit of a stretch, it wouldnt really matter. I have meet people who have nicknames that are totally different than their actual names:)

Thanks for the encouragement! I never thought I would use a name that I didn’t plan on calling a child. I’m not big on using a name just to get to a nn, but this specific name is different. I love [name]Ella[/name] on it’s own, but I don’t like the repeat “a” ending of [name]Ella[/name] [name]Pamela[/name]. We have such meaningful boy names picked out, that I’d love to be able to use a really special name for both the first and middle for a little girl. Unfortunately, I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] any of our family names enough to use them as a first… unless it’s digging way back in the family tree to someone I’ve never met anyway.

I don’t think [name]Pamela[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name] is too much of a stretch at all  actually I think it’s a great idea… you could also use [name]Millie[/name]

I think [name]Pamela[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name] is pretty cute. I love [name]Ella[/name], personally, but I like the idea of [name]Pamela[/name] more as a MN–I think something like [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Pamela[/name], nn [name]Ella[/name], would be sweet, too. Although possibly a bit [name]Ella[/name] redundant… If you love [name]Ella[/name], and love [name]Pamela[/name] as a FN, though, why not? I think [name]Pamela[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name] totally works.

I really like [name]Ella[/name] as opposed to [name]Pamela[/name]. You can use [name]Pamela[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name], or just use [name]Ella[/name] as a nod to honoring your mother. It only matters that you and she get the connection.

[name]Ella[/name] works as a NN for [name]Pamela[/name]. Think of other examples of not ‘spot on’ nns: [name]Betsy[/name] as a NN for [name]Elizabeth[/name]… [name]Jim[/name] as a NN for [name]James[/name].

[name]Ella[/name] works for [name]Pamela[/name] as a nickname. I was actually going to suggest it before reading the rest of the paragraph!

I know an [name]Ela[/name]. Now I’m wondering if she’s a [name]Pamela[/name]!

What about [name]Ella[/name] [name]Pamina[/name]? [name]Pamina[/name] is the lead female part in [name]Mozart[/name]'s The [name]Magic[/name] Flute. The Magic Flute - Wikipedia

It’s a nice alternative to [name]Pamela[/name], allows you to use [name]Ella[/name], and is an interesting middle name.

I think you could make it work as a nickname, but she’s always going to need to deal with her teachers (and other “official” type people) calling her [name]Pamela[/name] until she corrects them.

[name]Love[/name] it! I have an aunt named [name]Pamela[/name] and I’ve occasionally considered doing that, same with my mom’s name, [name]Cynthia[/name], I’ve though the nn [name]Thia[/name] would be really cute! I say go for it!

I think [name]Ella[/name] for [name]Pamela[/name] totally works. Really like [name]Mellie[/name], too. You might also consider [name]Paloma[/name] (pa-LOW-ma), which sound similar and sort of rearranges the letters/sounds of [name]Pamela[/name].

This. [name]Just[/name] use the name, [name]Ella[/name]. It still honors your mother and is a great name. But “[name]Ela[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]” as a nn for [name]Pamela[/name] just isn’t passable, [name]IMO[/name].

I know one [name]Pamela[/name] who goes by [name]Ella[/name]. I think you should go for it.

Definitely use [name]Ella[/name] as a nn for [name]Pamela[/name]! Or like other posters have said, use [name]Ella[/name] as the first name, and maybe a mn starting with a P to honor your mom:

[name]Ella[/name] [name]Patrice[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] [name]Paige[/name]

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate your feedback!

[name]Ella[/name] for [name]Pamela[/name] is genius! Fn material!!
