When you hear the name [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], what imagery comes to your head? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see a starry night or a killer in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]? Is it strong or pretentious? All opinions appreciated. ![]()
I see [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange she was a bad character and it most certainly isn’t positive. There are many other lovely [name_f]Bella[/name_f] names not related to evil literary characters. What about [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
I will always see the sadistic woman from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] who killed [name_m]Sirius[/name_m].
I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I see it as negative and over the top because of the connections. [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] just seems like too much name in my opinion. Going on how popular the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] series are I think most people would recognize it from their first.
I’m sad that [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is so tied to Lestrange. I always picture a starry night for some reason.
I see stars. I love [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] and I wish she would move past those associations. There are plenty of ugly characters with pretty names that other people over look.
Sorry to say, but I agree with earlier posters. I see [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange - killer from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Sorry.
Unfortunately, I still see [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange, despite the name’s beauty. However, I imagine if I met a little [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I’d get over it quickly. People got over [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Salome[/name_f], so [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] hopefully shouldn’t be any different.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange. I am a name geek from way back and never so much as heard the name before HP. [name_m]Even[/name_m] on its own, it sounds like an unnecessary [name_f]Bella[/name_f]-zation of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Like… [name_f]Bea[/name_f] isn’t girly enough, so we have to smush a [name_f]Bella[/name_f] in there somehow. It bugs me.
A bit surprise you consider [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], it is currently on my maybe/GP list. Maybe, because it’s a beautiful star in [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. For me, astronomical association is stronger than literature one. GP, because while I believe that someday sadistic Lestrange connection will be faded away, but I know it’ll still be strong in my mind.
At first, I had only ever connected the name to the HP character. Now my association has since changed to the star as I see the name more and more on NB.
We have a baby [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and it has happened at least half a dozen times in the first year that people asked us if she is named after the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character….So I can’t imagine if her name was actually Beallatrix…
I have never watched a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] movie, so I can’t comment on that. But when I say [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I think of a spunky and sweet little girl. : )
I didn’t think of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] at all (I haven’t read HP since I was 11). My first thought was that it was a new way to get to the popular nickname “[name_f]Bella[/name_f].” I do like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] very much.
I’ve never read the HP series…and I love the name [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]…it was the first name I thought I’d choose for my baby (if she’s a girl). But when I told my nephews & nieces they mutinied on the idea lol! And they told me about the character in the HP series (and I agree, she’s awful!)…and so that put me off somewhat too…but I still regard [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] as a beatific name…
Personally, I envision a field of gem colored flowers in a heavenly Utopia when I think of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - with rabbits and deers surrounding her playfully… she’s kind, loving, athletic, princess-y, determined, brave, noble of spirit & smart…sort of like the character in that 80s film, [name_u]Legend[/name_u].
So, I still think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is a gorgeous name…and if I met a little girl called [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I would be instantly smitten and admire the “ballsy-ness” of her Mother & Father for naming her [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] against popular public opinion
I love [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f].
Other [name_f]Bella[/name_f]-names are too cute for me, but with the -trix ending, it gets some edge.
As a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan, I obviously see it, but only when written down. When I say it out loud, I only hear a strong, beautiful name. I think combined with a middle name, or just the surname, it’ll work perfectly fine.
It’s not at all pretentious in my eyes or ears. And the character Lestrange, though, well, evil, is incredibly brave, strong, interesting, and intelligent. I don’t think it’s too bad. [name_m]Just[/name_m] think about all the children with names from Greek Gods. They were up to some pretty weird stuff.
