We are so overjoyed to welcome our twin boys
[name_f][/name_f]
Their names are [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Wiley[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Ames[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]— we are calling them [name_m]Auggie[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] and [name_m]Hank[/name_m][name_f][/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
They were born on [name_f]April[/name_f] 24th at 3:29 and 3:55 a.m., respectively. Already our night owls. [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] weighed 5 lbs, 13 oz at birth, while [name_m]Hank[/name_m] weighed 6 lbs, 1 oz. Both boys have some red hair already, [name_m]Hank[/name_m] seems a true red head while [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] is more in auburn territory.

When I was in high school, I was at my job that involved taking care of kids. This older lady told me that she “knew” that I was born to have twins (call it psychic or bubbe intuition). I was about 16 and knew that I wanted to be a mom in the future but I laughed it off because it seemed like such an odd thing to say. Well, flash forward and I’m not laughing anymore! I feel like I’ve waited for them my whole life and I can tell you these boys are wished for and loved beyond measure.

It became clear early on that we were going in a more “classic, friendly” direction when it comes to name vibes. We contemplated a lot of different choices [name_f][/name_f]— but at the end of the day, the decision felt very clear.

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] has a litany of literary influences. [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] wrote seven plays about Kings named [name_m]Henry[/name_m], Northanger [name_f]Abbey[/name_f] has a leading [name_m]Henry[/name_m], as does The Picture of [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] [name_m]Gray[/name_m] and Frankenstein. Of course there are writers [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Thoreau[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Wadsworth [name_m]Longfellow[/name_m], as well as scientist [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Sherwood[/name_m] [name_m]Lawrence[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]— plus a bit of both in [name_m]Hank[/name_m] [name_m]Green[/name_m]. Safe to say, despite its popularity, it wasn’t difficult to convince me on this name!

[name_m]August[/name_m] is the month I was born in, and I find it very romantic. Speaking of (Henry!) [name_m]Thoreau[/name_m], he wrote: “In [name_m]August[/name_m], the large masses of berries, which, when in flower, had attracted many wild bees, gradually assumed their bright velvety crimson hue, and by their weight again bent down and broke their tender limbs.” The word and name also has very strong meanings such as “respected and impressive.” I like how it’s a very friendly, casual name but it holds a lot of weight and strength. Personally, I always thought that if I had an [name_m]August[/name_m] he would be “Gus” but my husband was pushing hard for “Auggie.” At the end of the day, I had a hard time envisioning him as anything else.

It was a bit harder to come up with middle names. We wanted it to work with both the first names and the nicknames, flow with the last name, and be something that we both liked. [name_m]Ames[/name_m] means friend, while [name_m]Wiley[/name_m] means resolute protection. Things that we hope that are, things we hope they have, things we hope that they can be for each other.

[name_m]Hank[/name_m] and [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] are pure joy and sunshine for us! They are our biggest blessing and it’s such an honor to be their parents.
