(Imagine) You've just met a little girl named Lena

What’s she like?

I’ve really been crushing on [name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] lately, but thanks to an infernal TV show, I’m having conflicting images of what a [name]Lena[/name] would be like. I’m just curious to see what others picture [name]Lena[/name] as.

Thanks, ladies!

[name]Lee[/name]-nuh or [name]Lenn[/name]-uh?

[name]Lee[/name]-nuh feels more high maintenance than [name]Lenn[/name]-uh. [name]Lenn[/name]-uh feels a bit tomboy yet reminds me of a girl in ballet class. [name]Lenn[/name]-uh is tougher, [name]Lee[/name]-nuh is more princessy. [name]Lee[/name]-nuh feels very popular girl to me. [name]Lenn[/name]-uh is more loner feeling to me.

I really like [name]Lana[/name]. Maybe that has less associations for you?

I picture a [name]Lena[/name] as a serious student, thoughtful girl, and fun person to be around. Very nice name.

I pronnounce it lee-na. I think of the little girl that rides horses bareback and has very dark touseld hair in the ‘[name]Little[/name] House on the Prarie’ series. I think that is a lovely association to have.

[name]LEE[/name]-nah. No, [name]Lana[/name] is even worse, haha. There was a girl in the first [name]Princess[/name] Diaries movie who totally ruined that for me. haha. I’ve entertained [name]Lena[/name] said like [name]LAY[/name]-nah, but I like [name]LEE[/name]-nah more.

I like the name but in 2010 there were 4 couples in my prenatal class and 2/4 babies were named [name]Lena[/name]!

My goodness. [name]Lena[/name] has always been an image of a little vintage beauty in my mind. I have a photo of my Aunt [name]Lena[/name] and my Aunt [name]Helena[/name] playing together as children. It is an antique photo from the early 1900’s. [name]Lena[/name] looks to be about 10 or 11 years old wearing a long dark skirt with a nautical blouse. She has dark hair and a fair face, her bangs pulled back with a white flower. Such a pretty young girl looking after her younger cousin. [name]Helen[/name] looks to be about 7 years old and has long blond hair which is pulled back. She’s wearing a white hankerchief dress, laced up shoe boots and she’s holding an old china doll. This photo is such a treasure to me! I wish that I could share it with you! I also know a young lady about 23 years old with the name of [name]Lena[/name]. She is a pretty girl also with long dark hair and a fun personality. She actually showed my neice how to juggle!

I picture a girl with dark brown hair with very cute and tight curls. I think she would be very outdoorsy. I also get a very strong image of purple. [name]Even[/name] the little girl I picture in my head to be a [name]Lena[/name] is wearing a purple outfit. It just seems like such a purple name for some reason.

I’ve met soooo many [name]Lena[/name]'s over the years, I have lots of different images. (I live in Germany, it has been super popular here for about 20 years)

[name]Lena[/name]'s I think of:

[name]Lena[/name] [name]Meyer[/name]-Landruth:

[name]Lena[/name] Schneider:

[name]Lena[/name] Gercke:

Lena to me is kind of modern sounding, light and makes me think of a nice, pretty girl, but no pink princess. It’s one of those names that can work on all kind of different women. I can’t picture a tomboyish Selena i.e., but Lena could be anything, a ballerina or a soccer player, shy or outgoing. I like that. I’m totally done with the name here, hasn’t left the Top 10 for decades I think, but in the US, I think it’s a great choice!

I do picture a little Lena blond, but I can’t even say why, since I know non blond Lena’s as well.

I have a friend named [name]Lena[/name]-pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-nah. She’s fun and outgoing. Tall with blue eyes and brown hair that she constantly colors and cuts since she is a hairstylist now. She is also a great mom. I didn’t know her when she was a child, but i wouldn’t say she has changed much, but this what she is like all grown up.

[name]Helena[/name] is the trickiest name to pronounce. It can be [name]Helen[/name]-uh, huh-[name]LEE[/name]-na, or huh-[name]LAY[/name]-na, and all are correct. That’s my biggest problem with the name, but it’s nice in all forms. I wouldn’t use it though- it’s just too impractical for me.

Thanks, ladies!

I have this image of this shy, adorable two- or three-year-old with whispy blond hair, bright bluebell eyes, and a happy little baby grin that just hits you in the guts–she’s gorgeous, she’s smart, she’s artistic, she’s just a bit mischievous, precocious, and definitely a lovey-dovey mama’s girl.

This is the image I’m trying to hold onto, I absolutely love it, but has anyone seen the USA show, Covert Affairs? I’m a massive fan of the show, but not the [name]Lena[/name] on it–who is a haughty, despicable woman who was a double agent for [name]Russia[/name]/the FSB, and of course she tried (three times!) to murder one of my favorite character’s on the show. I just really can’t get her out of my head, but on the other hand, I love the first image of [name]Lena[/name] I’d had. Urgh. This is really frustrating!

I know nothing about this [name]Lena[/name] of whom you speak. The only [name]Lena[/name] I have room for in my mind is the divine [name]Lena[/name] Horne singing “[name]Stormy[/name] Weather,” somehow joyous and sad at the same time. A fantastic namesake.

I never got that far in Covert Affairs-only the first season, so I don’t get that reference. The only other bad association for me is the character [name]Lina[/name] [name]Lamont[/name] in Singin’ in the [name]Rain[/name]. Otherwise, I love the name!

I’d imagine a [name]Lena[/name](or [name]Lina[/name] in my case) to be like my friend [name]Lina[/name]-a little shy but sweet and outgoing. She’s smart, beautiful, and stands up for what she believes in.

[name]Lina[/name] [name]Lamont[/name] aside, I have only positive associations with the name-the fabulous [name]Lena[/name] Horne and the actress [name]Lena[/name] Headey!

I immediately think of actress [name]Lena[/name] Heady a la [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Connor[/name] Chronicles (not her evil Game of Thrones character). An understated beauty, with dark hair, blue-green eyes, and a tough attitude.

Ashthedreamer, you have great taste! I have a little [name]Lena[/name] at home, age 3. When I was imagining her and choosing her name, I pictured a toddler with dark brown curly hair and bright blue eyes, quiet but smiley and affectionate, with dimples.

Instead, my [name]Lena[/name] has light brown ringlet curls and hazel eyes with long dark lashes. She is extremely happy and charming, and does have dimples, but she is also spunky and opinionated, and loves to be in the spotlight.

[name]One[/name] thing we love about the nn [name]Lena[/name] is that it is such an international name! Wherever we go, people see that name as being from their culture. So the conversation usually goes like this: “She’s so cute! What’s her name?” “[name]Lena[/name].” “Oh, that’s a wonderful _________ name! Are you ______?” Insert: Greek, [name]German[/name], Spanish, Italian, Scandinavian, Russian. (Yes, we’ve gotten all six of these from various people!)

We have never met another little [name]Lena[/name] so far–I have heard of one, but it was short for [name]Magdalena[/name], not [name]Helena[/name]. (We live in NJ.)

Oh, I like her! I think [name]Lena[/name] is friendly but slightly reserved, maybe a little bit quirky, and definitely witty and smart. She’s a little vintage, a little bohemian, and a lot classy. I think she’s a sparkler (but she’s not quite a firecracker).
