- - - Imelda Lark and others---

So, my older sister [name]Kacey[/name] is pregnant, but she and her husband are busy with medical school right now so they find it difficult to focus much on the baby girl’s name. [name]Kacey[/name] knows what a huge name nut I am, so she decided to give me the honors of naming my little niece. So far, it’s all been a very interesting experience…it feels like I’m fourteen with my very own baby to name, except I’m not actually pregnant! Anyway, it’s on my mind quite a lot, and the past few days I’ve finally gotten enough ideas to be able to post a good topic on Nameberry. Basically, my sister is okay with anything as long as its not tryndeigh, made up, or totally outdated, like [name]Jennifer[/name] or [name]Stephanie[/name]. Also, she would be glad for 2 middle names but it’s not a huge priority.

I’ve come up with a couple that [name]Kacey[/name] and her DH [name]Paul[/name] has said yes to:

[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] nn [name]Ida[/name]–I love this, but is [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Primrose[/name] together too quirky and nature-y?

[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name] nn [name]Gennie[/name]–A bit similar to [name]Imelda[/name]…she seems to like the old fashioned I-names. Not sure on the nn though.

[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]—I’m not a hundred percent on [name]Daphne[/name], but I do love [name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name].

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] nn [name]Gigi[/name]—I adore [name]Anne[/name], and [name]Kacey[/name] likes it too. It doesn’t seem filler name to me at all.

[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] nn [name]Susie[/name]—I’m cautious about this one. [name]Do[/name] you think a little girl can still pull off [name]Susan[/name]?

[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name]—We’re still trying to find a 2nd middle besides [name]Marie[/name] for this one…

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] nn [name]Nelly[/name]—I’m personally not a huge fan of [name]Helena[/name], but [name]Kacey[/name] really likes it.

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name]—I love [name]Claire[/name], but neither of us are a hundred percent on [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]Bellamy[/name]. I really love the [name]Belle[/name] sound with [name]Claire[/name], though, but [name]Kacey[/name] is dead set against [name]Clarabelle[/name]. Or [name]Corabelle[/name], which I also love.

[name]Thessaly[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Bryn[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]—I saw this on Nameberry, fell in love with it, and had [name]Kacey[/name] fall in love with it too. The only problem is, we are saying it [name]TESS[/name]-uh-lee. Is that correct, or is it THESS-uh-lee?

So…what do you think? Please give suggestions as well as comments. Ratings would be nice too. Thanks!

— [name]Tara[/name]

In regards to [name]Thessaly[/name]; Thessalie is a region in [name]France[/name], and in [name]France[/name] I believe it is pronounced with the hard ‘T’ so thats how I would pronounce it [name]Tess[/name]-uh-lee

[name]Alexa[/name]–

Thank you for that info, I appreciate it. However, [name]Thessaly[/name] is Greek, so I’m not sure if the French Thessalie is related to it at all.

[name]Tara[/name] (& [name]Kacey[/name]),

[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] - I prefer this as [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] [name]Lark[/name], depending on the surname, but it is a lot of name! You might want to slip in a classic to balance out the uniqueness, such as [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Flora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], or something…

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] - Cute nickname! Not sure I love the flow of this one, though. What about [name]Annora[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]June[/name]? [name]Annie[/name] or [name]Nora[/name]?

[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] - Nickname her [name]Sosie[/name], and she can totally pull of [name]Susan[/name]! I think [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is prettier, though…

[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] - I love [name]Julia[/name]! [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Violet[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Margot[/name]?

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] - I adore [name]Helena[/name], but I like it said as HEH-leh-nuh, not with the “lay” sound. I love [name]Leni[/name] and [name]Nell[/name] as nicknames, too! This is beautiful!

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name] - I love [name]Claire[/name], too, but the flow isn’t there on this name. What about [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Roxane[/name] or something? She could go by [name]Clare[/name] if [name]Kacey[/name] likes it!

So, those were my favorites! The ones I didn’t comment on must not have struck a chord with me, honestly. I think that [name]Annora[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]June[/name], [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Roxane[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Celeste[/name], and [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Flora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] are pretty, too! Of your existing combinations, I would only choose [name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] as is, but that’s just me…

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Lemon[/name],

Thanks for your comments!

I have been thinking of [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] [name]Lark[/name] as well, but for some reason [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] sounds pretty to me. Perhaps we might keep it [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name], with no second middle name. This was the initial plan, as their last name starts with a Y so it would be ILY. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Roxanne[/name] is lovely as well, I’ll have to suggest that.

Yes, [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] sounds very nice. I think that [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] Y. is nice, but what is the significance of ILY? [name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Roxane[/name] - it sounds very feminine to me!

Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Tara[/name], we are absolute name soulmates! (Well, you, your sister and I.)

Of your names, these we are using for the twins or are on our list for future children :
[name]Imelda[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] (DH’s grandfather [name]Cecil[/name])
[name]Felicity[/name].

These are family names of mine :
[name]Primrose[/name] - my mother
[name]Plum[/name] (also on my list for future children) - my cousin
[name]Helen[/name] - my aunt
[name]Alice[/name] - one of my middles
[name]Maria[/name] - one of my sister’s middles.

I also love :
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Gigi[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name] (the TH pronunciation is correct)
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Julia[/name].

Needless to say, I like a lot of your combinations! My favourites of your first names are [name]Imelda[/name] and [name]Thessaly[/name], although I do agree that [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Primrose[/name] in the same name may be overkill. Simply [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] is lovely, as is [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Lark[/name], [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Alice[/name].

[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name] - I simply adore these two middle names. Personally, I would swap this up to [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name]; a perfect name!

I like [name]Susan[/name] for the cute nicknames, although I might be tempted to go for [name]Susannah[/name] instead, as I fear the majority of people may still find [name]Susan[/name] a little dated. You also have the option of the nn [name]Annie[/name] then, which is sweet (I love [name]Sukie[/name] for [name]Susan[/name]/[name]Susannah[/name], too!).

Names which spring to mind are [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name].

Good luck to your sister!

[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] nn [name]Ida[/name]–[name]Imelda[/name] is one old name I cant get on board with. It just sounds very unpleasent to me, sorry.

[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name] nn [name]Gennie[/name]–I dont like [name]Imogen[/name], to me it is a very odd assortment of letters and sounds that dont really flow together. I love [name]Cecily[/name] though, have you considered that as a fn?

[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]–[name]Millicent[/name] “[name]Millie[/name]” is super sweet. What about [name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Anne[/name]?

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] nn [name]Gigi[/name]–I like this combo the best out of the ones you listed. What a great name! and [name]Gigi[/name] is super cute.

[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] nn [name]Susie[/name]–I have a soft spot for [name]Susan[/name], so sweet. I dont think it is by any means back in style just yet but I think a little girl could pull it off just fine.

[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name]–[name]Julia[/name] is a nice strong name. What about [name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name]?

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] nn [name]Nelly[/name]—[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing [name]Helena[/name]? It seems like everyone pronounces it differently, that is the only think I have againts this name. I love the flow of [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] though.

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name]—I love [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Bellamy[/name] is cute.

[name]Thessaly[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Bryn[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]—I have no clue how you pronounce this but [name]Tess[/name]-a-lee seems legit imo. I really like this name. [name]Tessa[/name] is so sweet.

My two favorites are [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Thessaly[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Bryn[/name]. [name]How[/name] lucky you are to get to name your niece! I’m super jealous.

tara,

All you options are very nice my fave is [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name].

[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] nn [name]Ida[/name]-- I like [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Primrose[/name] is cute. [name]Ida[/name] is a cute nn, but please don’t name her [name]Imelda[/name]. I personally know an [name]Imelda[/name] and she absolutely HATES her name. HATES it to the point that she refuses to admit that its her first name and almost never never never tells anyone what her real first name is. She was unfortunately named after someone, and had gone by her middle ever since. [name]Ida[/name] is better, but [name]Imelda[/name] - I’m sorry, I have to be honest.

[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name] nn [name]Gennie[/name]- [name]Cecily[/name] is nice. Cici is cute. [name]Imogen[/name], again, I can’t get on the [name]Imogen[/name] bandwagon

[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]—I’m not a hundred percent on [name]Daphne[/name], but I do love [name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name]. - [name]Millicent[/name] - ok. I am picturing the witch or queen in Sleeping Beauty. You don’t want to name a precious baby after a mean association like that!! If you like [name]Millie[/name], go with [name]Matilda[/name]. [name]Cora[/name] is nice and [name]Daphne[/name] is great

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] nn [name]Gigi[/name]—I adore [name]Anne[/name], and [name]Kacey[/name] likes it too. It doesn’t seem filler name to me at all. - Ok. This is the first one that I am liking. Yeah!!!

[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] nn [name]Susie[/name]—I’m cautious about this one. [name]Do[/name] you think a little girl can still pull off [name]Susan[/name]? A little girl can pull [name]Susan[/name] off much easier and better than [name]Millicent[/name] or [name]Imelda[/name]! [name]Susan[/name] is awesome compared to those! I again, endorse this one.

[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name]—We’re still trying to find a 2nd middle besides [name]Marie[/name] for this one… - this is a nice classic one. Stands the test of time. She will like this name as it can grow with her

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] nn [name]Nelly[/name]—I’m personally not a huge fan of [name]Helena[/name], but [name]Kacey[/name] really likes it. - I agree with your sister. This is a great name

- Again, nice combo

- [name]Thessaly[/name] looks made up. Not a fan

So…what do you think? Please give suggestions as well as comments. Ratings would be nice too. Thanks!

Sorry for the honest opinions, but seriously. I think the best piece of advice when you are picking out names is, “would you change your name to this?” can you seriously see yourself as an [name]Imelda[/name]? As a [name]Millicent[/name]? If you can honestly say yes, then I guess go for it.

Please leave this in the vault:
[name]Imelda[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]

I can endorse these:
Well pretty much all but the above.

Good luck to your sister and her baby.

I agree. I like [name]Helena[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Julia[/name] or [name]Juliette[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Susan[/name].

I do not like:
[name]Imelda[/name], [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Imogen[/name]

[name]Thessaly[/name] - not familiar with, but prefer some of your others.

Best wishes.

If you like the sound of tess-uh-lee but aren’t sure [name]Thessaly[/name] will be pronounced with a hard T or not you could maybe use [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Lee[/name]. For example, [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Lee[/name] or [name]Susan[/name] [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Lee[/name].

Lookng through your original list I looked at which you said were your sisters favourites. [name]Anne[/name], [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Thessaly[/name] it seems. Are you pronouncing [name]Helena[/name] as Hel-en-ah or Hel-lay-na?

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Thessaly[/name] [name]Anne[/name] ?
[name]Tessa[/name] [name]Lee[/name] [name]Anne[/name] ?

My favourites of your choices are:
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] - Not too naturey for me. It’s very pretty.
[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] - I feel [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] should be switched but [name]Susan[/name] is fine on a little girl especially with the nn [name]Susie[/name].
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] - Very nice. Much more, I don’t know, dignified or mature I guess than some of the other names which are definately more sweet and girly. It works as Hel-len-ah Vih-Vee-un and Hel-lay-nah Vih-Vee-enne aswell, depending on how you pronounce them.

I like [name]Imelda[/name], [name]Lark[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] as individual names though.
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Claire[/name] *
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Anne[/name] *
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Anne[/name] *
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Lark[/name] *
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name]
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Imelda[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] *

[name]Lemon[/name],

ILY is the texting abbreviation for “I love you”.

Thanks Twinkle!

LOL we are soul mates! Haha my sister and I have always had similar tastes in names, even though she wasn’t much of a name nerd. She just likes my suggestions a lot.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name], but [name]Kacey[/name] isn’t on board with either of them. Which I guess could be a good thing, because [name]Flora[/name] is definitely one I’ll want to save for my own future baby. [name]Sukie[/name] for [name]Susannah[/name]/[name]Susan[/name] is so cute! The only problem is that [name]Kacey[/name]'s DH has a cousin [name]Susannah[/name] that he’s rather close to. He wanted to honor her, so that’s why [name]Susan[/name] was on the list. It was the only [name]Susannah[/name] related name that [name]Kacey[/name] liked. And thanks for clearing up [name]Thessaly[/name]'s prn for me! Much appreciated.

— [name]Tara[/name]

Thanks for your input. I enjoyed reading your comments, however, in the future, please don’t put “sorry, no offense, but”. It annoys me to read that, even if it’s true. [name]Just[/name] give it to me straight, no Splenda artificial sweetener. Other than that, I have to add that [name]Thessaly[/name] is a ancient Greek name. Not made up.

Wow. You have some really creative name ideas! First, the ones I love:

[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Plum[/name] nn [name]Gennie[/name]–This is an adorable name. We considered [name]Imogen[/name] for our child and it’s still on the list, but I’m not sure if people here in the states would pronounce it right. [name]Plum[/name] would be a super cute first name, too.

[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]—[name]Millie[/name] is very cute. I actually love all three of these names. I think [name]Millicent[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Cora[/name] flows a little better.

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] nn [name]Gigi[/name]— I like just [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] even better. Either way it’s lovely.

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Claire[/name] nn [name]Nelly[/name]—I like [name]Helena[/name] and think it’s nice for an adult, while [name]Nelly[/name] is cute for a kid. [name]Vivienne[/name] is gorgeous.

[name]Susan[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Alice[/name] nn [name]Susie[/name]—I don’t think this name is as interesting and spunky as the others you picked, but it’s fine.

[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name]— This sounds very peaceful and elegant to me. Again, not as much of a fun name as the others.

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name]— I would move [name]Bellamy[/name] up to the first name. It’s just so distinctive and cool. Maybe [name]Bellamy[/name] [name]Claire[/name]?

The only ones I’m not liking:

[name]Thessaly[/name] - Something about the sound of [name]Thessaly[/name] just doesn’t work for me personally. I do like [name]Tessa[/name] a lot.

[name]Imelda[/name] - This name gives me the shivers.

Good luck!

UPDATE

So, [name]Kacey[/name] and I pored over our lists one more time, and came up with the first names that we really liked.

[name]Imelda[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Meryl[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]

A couple are new additions, and some are the same. Options for middle names include (but aren’t limited to):

[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Plum[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Dove[/name]
[name]Maud[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]

We would appreciate some help putting these together, and two middle names would be nice but it isn’t necessary if you find a combination of one middle name better. Again, [name]Kacey[/name]'s last name starts with a Y and is Eastern European-sounding. (Ends in -ski).

— [name]Tara[/name] and [name]Kacey[/name]

[name]Imelda[/name]- I read in your previous post that you want peoples honest opinions. Honestly, I think this name is down right ugly, and I’m the kind of person that rarely thinks that about a name.
[name]Tabitha[/name]- This name always reminds me of cats, the nn [name]Tabby[/name] doesnt help.
[name]Eloise[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this. So lovely and sweet.
[name]Caroline[/name]- I love this too.
[name]Vivienne[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name] name.
[name]Helena[/name]- I mentioned this before, but the multiple pronounciations of this name annoys me. [name]How[/name] are you prn this?
[name]Meryl[/name]-hmmm not sure how I feel about this. I love [name]Meryl[/name] Streep, but I’m not sure if I love the name. I prefer [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Julia[/name]- Always a good choice.
[name]Clara[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this one. I’m not sure why it isnt more popular its such a great name.

Okay now for some combos:
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Georgina[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Maude[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Dove[/name]
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]

HTH and good luck.

[name]Imelda[/name] is a family name, and right now we’re debating whether or not we should just stick it in the middle. We want to use it, definitely, but it seems to get a bad reaction from even the berries, which normally never happens unless it’s a tryndeigh name. [name]Tabitha[/name] has a similar cat-feel to me as well, but we would be using the nickname [name]Tibbie[/name]. I think it has the similar feel of [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Leona[/name]. As for [name]Helena[/name], we are saying [name]Helen[/name]+uh. However, we are both straying from this name right now because of the prn issues. I adore [name]Meryl[/name] Streep, and also the figure skater [name]Meryl[/name] [name]Davis[/name]. [name]Miriam[/name] is nice as well, but it’s not a name [name]Kacey[/name] likes.

I really love [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Claire[/name] from your combos.

I’m all for using family names so making [name]Imelda[/name] a mn would be a good option. [name]Tibbie[/name] is a really cute nn, I like that much more than [name]Tabby[/name]. I love both [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Leo[/name], so the cat connection really doesnt bother me. I want just pointing it out. I pronounce [name]Helena[/name] Huh-lay-nuh, only because the other prn reminds me too much of the city. What about [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Imelda[/name] [name]Claire[/name]?
