Immy as first name?

My husband and I love the name [name_f]Immy[/name_f] but we’re not too keen on the names that could lead to [name_f]Immy[/name_f] as a nickname- [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Imelda[/name_f], [name_f]Imani[/name_f], etc.
At this point I’m really considering naming her just [name_f]Immy[/name_f]. I hadn’t planned on using a “nickname” as a first name but I keep coming back to this one and I feel her name will adapt with her as she grows. Thoughts?

I generally prefer it as a nickname for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], but I like the name [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a full name so why not [name_f]Immy[/name_f]? I a big believer in the idea that all names age fine.
I’d want to spell it differently, but none of the options actually appeal to me that much: Imi, Immi, Immie.

You could also consider using a name with a strong ‘Im’ sound in it, if not necessarily at the start:
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] (I know the ‘im’ sound is ‘eye-m’ in this, but I think [name_f]Immy[/name_f] still works)
[name_f]Olimpia[/name_f]/[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] ([name_m]Simmy[/name_m]/[name_f]Immy[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]

I’m really not a fan of using nicknames as full names, but I suppose it’s not the worst thing you could do. One thing I would suggest, though, is to spell it Immie. I think it looks cuter and the letters look more balanced without the “y”. Good luck!

I’m a fan of putting the name you love on the birth certificate. If you don’t like the long forms and you would only call her [name_f]Immy[/name_f], then name her [name_f]Immy[/name_f]. That spares her the constant “Call me [name_f]Immy[/name_f]” (though she may have to explain sometimes that it’s not short for anything).

From a style standpoint, I love diminutive names like [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f], etc. They age fine, IMHO — I’ve known people of all ages with names like this. So I say go for it!

Oh, and though I usually like -ie spellings, I think the -y here gives [name_f]Immy[/name_f] some oomph and sophistication.

Name her [name_f]Immy[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmie[/name_f] if that is what she will be called. I’ve known two people with that as a given name.

That’s what I was hoping to hear. I’ve had a hard time finding anyone with [name_f]Immy[/name_f] as a given name
