[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. I created this thread because 1) I am starting to feel insecure about the name we chose and I don’t know why. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] like it might be too trendy - even though we have a personal attachment (and should that even matter?) name is : [name_f]Mila[/name_f]
I seriously need some feedback from fellow NB people. I have come to see that you all are wonderfully supportive - while still being and saying productive feedback. [name_f]Honesty[/name_f].
The baby girl is coming soon! we just found out the gender (34 weeks!) and as a FIRST TIME MOM - I’m panicking a little (or a lot:) in general because we found out she is coming early. Health reasons - best for me and the baby. so, about 3 weeks till she is here.
PLEASE. feedback.

name so far picked has been -[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Ravinna[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_m]Joplin[/name_m]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
our last name is quite long. (Am I suppose to type that here? - my apologies I am new to ALL OF THIS.)
but now I don’t know if we should go with a longer first name for [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and keep that for her nickname - OR - I’m just lost and obviously I need help with the MN.
If you love a name, and really love it, then how popular or trendy a name is shouldn’t matter. If it’s right for you, then its right.
Having said that, I do see where you’re coming from with it and personally, if it was me, I would pick a more classic name that has nn possibilities - in this case, for [name_f]Mila[/name_f], I would pick something like [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or even [name_f]Milly[/name_f] and then pair it with a ‘trendier’ mn like [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] if that’s what you like.
However, [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a lovely name in its own right and perhaps a shorter name like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] would go better with a long ln? Either way, your daughter is going to have a lovely name:)
According to NB, [name_f]Mila[/name_f] was ranked #53 in 2015, which is moderately popular. However, I don’t think the popularity should deter you from using a name if you love it. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] name cold feet appears to be a common problem— a few of the moms on here can probably reassure you better. Naming a baby is a lot of responsibility!
Again though, it sounds like the name is important to you and that you like it, so I think that should be enough justification to use it. If you intend to call her [name_f]Mila[/name_f] anyway, I don’t see the use in picking out a longer name just to put on paper. It really won’t make her stand out more in the long run.
As for the middle, I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sounds the best. Good luck!
I really love [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. It’s so pretty and feminine without being frilly. It’s also a bit spunky. Who cares if it’s a tad on the trendy side? I love [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. Followed by [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].
I know what you make an with cold feet when naming a baby. I think it’s natural when you’re naming a human. It’s a big responsibility and takes a whole new level of commitment.
When I named my children I think I knew in my heart before they were born what I would call them. But I always went to the hospital with at least two options so I didn’t have to feel that commitment panic before hand and could mull the name over without that hanging over my head. Not to mention the naming process is fun and I didn’t want it to be over by settling on a name too quickly.
I think if you adore [name_f]Mila[/name_f] then when you see her and call her that it will feel right to you. When you see your beautiful [name_f]Mila[/name_f] the little issue of trendiness is going to fly out the window. I had my heart set on [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] if I had a little girl. I also loved violet but a tinge less. I worried [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be too old lady and my parents hated it which deterred me. When she was born and I held her and called her [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] I no longer cared about the silly hang ups. I loved the name and I loved her. Six weeks later I can say there is no other name in this world I love more than [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a timeless name, a classic Slavic name. AND it’s also right on trend with the current what BabyNameWizard calls “raindrop names.”
I think the name is great and not trend-y, so I think it will stand the test of time. Yes, there are many similar sounding names out there right now ([name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], etc) but if you love a name, that’s not important [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
Also, hormones. Make naming decisions utterly hard! I can attest to that!
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is beautiful! I don’t love [name_f]Ravinna[/name_f], my favorite from your list would be [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. I like that her name is short given her last name. She’ll thank you while she’s taking tests in school where she has to fill in the bubbles with her name
I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a beautiful name. It sounds sweet but spunky at the same time. My personal favorite on your list is [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], but
I also think that [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sounds nice.
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is also a nice alternative, if you decide you don’t want to name her [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. Of course, there could be pronunciation issues with whether it’s an EYE sound or EE sound.
I love [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. I’m hoping to use it for a future daughter. While it’s a bit trendy right now, it’s also a family name for me and belonged to my great-great grandmother–which I mention because that makes it more classic/less trendy to me.
In my opinion it’s just as beautiful and as feminine as [name_f]Maya[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f], while having a bit of an exotic edge. It’s short and spunky and so much fun to say.
If you love it, imagine yourself saying it aloud. Several times a day. Can you picture that? If you can, I think it’s your name.
If your last name is long, I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a great fit. Of your choices, I like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] best.
I would suggest [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. Best wishes!
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a beautiful name. I don’t think you need to change it, or find a ‘longer version’. I am in Australia, and have never met anyone with that name. I wouldn’t consider it overly common. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is just gorgeous!
I think it’s a beautiful name. More popular than I would use but it is beautiful. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is really pretty.
Here’s what i would, can I just make a song with it? Can you hear it at a graduation? Wedding? [name_m]How[/name_m] does it look on a formal invitation? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you find yourself doodling the names when in a lecture type situation? Monogrammed on a blanket?
Another thought, make a real short list. Have them handy when the baby comes, if she’s a [name_f]Mila[/name_f] when you hold her, she’s [name_f]Mila[/name_f].
You’ll be a great mom, if you worry this much about her name, you’ll be just as thoughtful in the other areas of her life. But aside fleeting emotions, is she a [name_f]Mila[/name_f]? I think you’ll have your answer.
