Ok, so firstly our girl name is set, [name]Margot[/name]. However our boy name is supposed to be [name]Marlon[/name]. And that is my pickle. I love [name]Margot[/name] to death and would love to save it for next time if this one is a boy. So, considering they are so similar, we need a new name for a baby boy…
My favourite of the rest of our options is [name]Penn[/name]. I would love you honest opinion of [name]Penn[/name], please!
If you’ve got any other suggestions for us… along the lines of Bugsy, [name]Penn[/name] and [name]Marlon[/name] (complete smoosh of styles I know!!!), I would love them too!
[name]Lila[/name]
P.S. Hopefully this is my last thread before our birth announcement!!!
Gah! It’s so tricky isn’t it? If you have a girl, then the pickle will disappear! But if you don’t then [name]Penn[/name] is a fine name. I’ve never met a [name]Penn[/name], which I think is a good thing. That said I’ve never met a [name]Marlon[/name] or a Bugsy. You have wonderfully adventurous taste in boys names! Sorry no added suggestions, but all the best.
But I actually don’t like [name]Marlon[/name] (only because my hubby’s football mad and hence I know of a footballer called [name]Marlon[/name] [name]King[/name] who did time and It reminds me of him) saying that I like [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Marlow[/name] - thought they might still be too close to margot?
[name]Penn[/name] - tbh i’d never heard of [name]Penn[/name] as a stand alone name, if finn can stand alone then I don’t really see why [name]Penn[/name] cant, but personally I prefer it as a nickname for [name]Spencer[/name].
Suggestions wise maybe: [name]Saxon[/name], [name]Romeo[/name], [name]Wade[/name], [name]Murray[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Jonty[/name], [name]Jimi[/name]. Or you could go ultimate movie sibset and call him [name]Rocky[/name]…or maybe [name]Rocco[/name].
I would prefer [name]Penn[/name] as a nickname, so that said, what about Pennington? Or [name]Aspen[/name]/[name]Espen[/name]?
Other ideas:
[name]Dexter[/name], [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Darby[/name], [name]Barnaby[/name], [name]Winston[/name], [name]Maurice[/name], [name]Maverick[/name], [name]Vaughn[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name], [name]Phineas[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Ellsworth[/name], [name]Tanner[/name]?
I think [name]Penn[/name] works just fine, but this is coming from a biased Pennsylvanian. I do want to suggest the name [name]Myron[/name] (“MY-run”), which has the same feel as [name]Marlon[/name] but would still allow you to use [name]Margot[/name] on a future daughter. Good luck!
I like [name]Penn[/name] but it just isn’t as great as [name]Marlon[/name] or Bugsy.
Personally I prefer [name]Marlon[/name] over [name]Margot[/name] but I kind of like that they are so close. I get that you love [name]Margot[/name] and might want to keep it for a future girl should this LO be a boy but [name]Margot[/name] could still be a mn and I actually find it quite charming that the names you choose sound so similar, it’s like you almost know whose growing inside of you even though you haven’t “formally” meet.
Suggestions:
Have you considered using the designated mn as a fn? I can’t remember what it was but I remember thinking it was a cool combo with [name]Marlon[/name].
Otherwise: [name]Tucker[/name], [name]Axel[/name], [name]Arno[/name], [name]Scout[/name], [name]Knox[/name], [name]Jesse[/name] (you;d have [name]Billy[/name] the Kid and [name]Jesse[/name] [name]James[/name]… )… I don’t know Bugsy is hard to follow. Too bad your hubby didn’t fall in love with two boys names as a kid.
I like [name]Marlon[/name] so much more than [name]Penn[/name]. Bugsy and [name]Marlon[/name] are perfect. But [name]Margot[/name] is sweet too, and I get that you think [name]Marlon[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] are a bit too close.
These are names I feel fit your style:
[name]Chester[/name], [name]Clyde[/name], [name]Errol[/name], [name]Fred[/name], [name]Harvey[/name], [name]Lester[/name], [name]Lloyd[/name], [name]Nigel[/name], [name]Omar[/name], [name]Orson[/name], [name]Otis[/name], [name]Roger[/name] and [name]Rudy[/name].
Thanks for your replies. I guess I figure that we want 4 children, so I’ll hold onto both [name]Marlon[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] and if we get to the 4th and still no girl our 4th son will be [name]Marlon[/name]. But then again I might meet this baby, if it’s a boy, and decide that he is a [name]Marlon[/name].
From the suggestions I have received I like: [name]Booker[/name], [name]Rafferty[/name], [name]Otis[/name] and [name]Maverick[/name]…but I’m just far to indecisive!
My biggest guilty pleasure name is [name]Hopper[/name], someone suggested it on one of my first threads and I love it! My husband seems to think we should just use it, I think I’d be inclined to if we didn’t have a son with Bug in his name… Hopping Bug, [name]Hopper[/name] the Bug… I don’t know. I really like the name though, Is it just too out there and ridiculous? We don’t really seem to have very many limits!
Anyway, as always, the feedback has proved helpful! I still really like [name]Penn[/name], but I’m not convinced that it’s right… I’ve thought of a combo that I like though, [name]Penn[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]. Let me know what you think of that
[name]Penn[/name] doesn’t feel like a full name to me, and I think the pen/penis issue is a problem. That said, I think it could work as a nn for [name]Aspen[/name]/[name]Espen[/name] as someone suggested, or for [name]Caspian[/name] if you like.
Some ideas for you, that I think are in the style of [name]Margot[/name] (a marvelous name!):
