In a Rut -- Need Creative Minds!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,
I have said multiple times I have the hardest time with girl names… so I was hoping you all could all help me out?

I want to have a name that is unique but wouldn’t be embarrassing to the child. I have plenty of guilty pleasures, but when I actually think…would I want my name first name to be [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]? No…not personally. I like vintage but not too old-lady sounding (ex: [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is too on the mature side for me).

I like names that are bright and sunny. Names that conjure up a creative image and make people smile when you introduce the child. Not too frilly or harsh (nothing like [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] for a girl.) I also like to steer clear of the top 100.

Here are some name ideas that I do enjoy, but don’t feel I’ll use :

[name_f]Honor[/name_f] – worry about the “on her” reference I see people point out on here, and I don’t like [name_f]Honora[/name_f] as an alt.
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] – could I do this? [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if it’s overly country…
[name_u]Pepper[/name_u] – but not digging a full name for it like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] – favorite but DH hates it :frowning:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – cute sound but becoming too common
Pharaby – family name for us, but complicated to spell/sound out

I’m excited to hear any suggestions from you because the berries have the best ones of all! Thank you! xoxo

We have similar tastes  Here are some that were on my list (but got nixed by the hubs)

[name_u]Hero[/name_u] (a la [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f])
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] or [name_f]Robyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or … [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]?)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] ([name_f]Ginny[/name_f])

[name_u]Hillary[/name_u]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Gillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Julianne[/name_u]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]

You should so use Pharaby for her middle name. It’s so quirky and fun. Let’s see…

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

[name_f]Honor[/name_f] – I love this name! Names similar to this: [name_u]Haven[/name_u], [name_f]Maven[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Annora[/name_f]/ [name_f]Norah[/name_f], [name_f]Lenore[/name_f].
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] – [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
[name_u]Pepper[/name_u] – [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_u]Fifer[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].
[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] – Know a little girl that wears this so well! [name_u]Loren[/name_u], [name_f]Lillia[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_u]Skye[/name_u].
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Indie[/name_f]/[name_f]India[/name_f], [name_u]Cali[/name_u], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
Pharaby – Maebry, Sabrie (Know a newborn girl with this name), [name_f]Farrah[/name_f].

Hopefully these help!

I like @southern.maple suggestions esp. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]), [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] because they will age well and are sweet for a little girl. Also, [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] should age well and are cute for a little girl. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is not bad but some little ones struggle with L and R because of their palate.

[name_f]Honor[/name_f] – worry about the “on her” reference I see people point out on here, and I don’t like [name_f]Honora[/name_f] as an alt. I think what bothers me about this one is that it sounds like you wanted to name her “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nah” ([name_f]Anna[/name_f]) or “Hah-na” ([name_f]Hannah[/name_f]) but didn’t know how to make ppl say the “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]” version of familiar names. And it DOES sounds like “On her”

[name_f]Maple[/name_f] – could I do this? [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if it’s overly country…[b][i]No. I can’t get behind this one. I like hippy-dippy names, nature names, whimsy names…but this makes me wince. Sorry!

[/i][/b][name_u]Pepper[/name_u] – but not digging a full name for it like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - [name_f]Eponine[/name_f], [name_f]Pauline[/name_f], [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]. [name_f]Paola[/name_f], [name_f]Pamelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Pegeen[/name_f]. A NN like [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] only needs to be vaguely related to the real name. There are ppl named [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]. It works as a first name, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] – favorite but DH hates it - [i][b][name_m]How[/name_m] about Alora, [name_f]Lorna[/name_f], or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]?

[/b][/i][name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – cute sound but becoming too common - [b][i]I like it, I’m not convinced that too many girls will have this name, given that most people are so attached to the “normal names” like [name_f]Grace[/name_f], etc.

[/i][/b] Pharaby - nms, don’t like it.

Other suggestions: [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (I know ppl with these names), Alora, [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], [name_u]Marion[/name_u], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Pegeen[/name_f]

I love the name [name_f]Honor[/name_f].

[name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_f]Journey[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_u]Haven[/name_u]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Poet[/name_f]
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]
[name_f]Vita[/name_f]
[name_f]Indie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_u]Vega[/name_u]
[name_f]Ireland[/name_f]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]

On your list, [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is my favorite

It seems like you like a little charm. Maybe you’d like:
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (lovely name imo)
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]

You can also make some fun names that are a great mix of classic and spunky. Try:
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Adventure
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Petra[/name_f] nn [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]? [name_f]Petra[/name_f] has great vintage charm but is uncommon enough to not sound old-ladyish! [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is a great suggestion as well for [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] could work too.

Suggesting-

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Leda[/name_f] (lovely meaning and history)
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (one of my favorites!)
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiora[/name_f]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] (maybe as a nn though)
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Talia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Liza[/name_f]
[name_f]Sanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]
[name_f]Marni[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]

[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] is on our list! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband will go for [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] but he doesn’t like [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] - so at least he likes part of it!

Interesting suggestions! I like a lot of them. Would you pronounce [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] like lay-own-ee?
You are right, [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is quirky! [name_f]My[/name_f] hub doesn’t like this one either (catching a trend here?? ha!) but I think he could be convinced more than some of the others I bring to the table.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are all names I like as well. I don’t even mind [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as a nn, which I know a lot of people do. [name_f]My[/name_f] hub isn’t keen on [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] has been on my list but I put it on then take it off because it kind of gets stuck on the tongue, no?
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is one I see floating around here all the time and I’ve never like it!! I know I’m in the minority here but I just can’t seem to find it charming in the least.

Thanks for all the feedback. It helps to have someone else voice it out with me! I actually do like [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] (not sure if I could name a girl [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f]) and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is even more out there than [name_f]Maple[/name_f] for me. I do love the sound of it though, I just don’t think I could use it on a human. It’s good to hear your thoughts on [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] too…maybe I am overthinking it as too common!

You must have spidey sense because I started to list out [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Indie[/name_f], and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]! hahah! All considerations and ones I enjoy. [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is probably the one I would be most likely to actually use, and in the middle name slot. The thing with [name_f]Indie[/name_f] is the only 2 names I can think of to go with it would be [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] or [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]. I cannot use [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] because I already have a daughter with a place name that I don’t want that “theme” running in the family for my kid’s names.

I adore [name_u]River[/name_u] but like it for a boy. I wouldn’t like use it for the reason that you just listed…it’s becoming almost as popular (or maybe more I can’t remember) for girls as it is for boys on the SSA list! Surprising yet not because it does have a soft sound.

[name_f]Leilani[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashling[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariella[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_u]Peri[/name_u]
Kestrel
[name_f]Sable[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Zalia[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
Tariel
[name_f]Shira[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]

I just can’t like [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. It makes me think of the word “petrified” and it doesn’t conjure up a sunny image.

I do have to say that I also adore [name_f]Thea[/name_f]!! [name_f]Thea[/name_f] doesn’t get enough credit! I’m adding that to the list.
