In honor of the blog post “Confessions of a Name Heretic–or, in defense of [name]Jayden[/name]”:
What are your favorite un-nameberry names? Maybe it’s super common? Hyphenated? Ugly? [name]Star[/name]-baby? Ends-in-lyn? Rhymes with [name]Aiden[/name]? You saw it on Toddlers in Tiaras? Maybe you like [name]Mason[/name]… on a girl?
I [name]DO[/name] like [name]Mason[/name] on a girl.
I also like:
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Ellison[/name]
[name]Gertrude[/name]
[name]Ava[/name]-[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Peach[/name]
[name]Barbara[/name]
Irelyn
[name]Dellen[/name]
Rayanne
[name]Toby[/name] (G)
[name]Tangerine[/name]
[name]Camden[/name] (I love the nn [name]Cam[/name])
[name]Jace[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Harmony[/name]
Funny, right after I read that article I started thinking about all “popular” or “trendy” names that I truly do enjoy. That is trendy and popular in the real world, not the Berryworld. Names become popular for a reason and although there is a groan factor when I hear of yet another [name]Brooklyn[/name] or [name]Caden[/name], we berries do tend to villianize those who go with the norms.
I cannot think of anymore at the moment other than I also really like [name]Camden[/name] and don’t see all the fuss about it and its the surname of a pretty cool historian.
But when you think about it, there really aren’t many people you would meet in real life with a baby [name]Persephone[/name] or a [name]Daxton[/name] [name]Humphrey[/name] [name]Agustus[/name]. You never see anyone on here asking for an opinion on, for example, a baby [name]Isabella[/name] or a baby [name]Mason[/name]. I almost feel it’s because a lot of the unanimously favorite names on here are so far out that we scare off the people with a taste for more common names…
I’m all over the map with my taste in names. While there are many uncommon ones that I enjoy, some do tend to fall to the ‘popular’ of ‘trendy’ side of things. A couple that I love right now are [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] ([name]ADORE[/name] the nn [name]Izzy[/name]) and more, but those are the few I can think of off the top of my head.
I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for [name]Kaylie[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it! Named a [name]Barbie[/name] doll and my baby doll that when I was a little girl! And I do like [name]Jayden[/name] ([name]Jadon[/name]) It’s a nice name!
I like nickname names or nickname-sounding names, but always get shot down. I love [name]Sosie[/name] and [name]Thandie[/name].
I like [name]Kenzie[/name].
I like [name]Jayne[/name] with a y.
I think the -ayden names are all pretty bad though still. The blogger was right–only because there are so many!
Today’s blog was especially funny for me because I recently posted on the forums asking if [name]George[/name] would be an acceptable middle name for a girl now that [name]James[/name] and [name]Jones[/name] are being used so often. I had a lot of negative responses, people begging me not to use it. I may or may not use it, but I like [name]George[/name] for a girl in the middle spot.
I love some of the popular names like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], and [name]Emma[/name].
I also like some of the more “dated” names like [name]Amy[/name] and [name]Wendy[/name].
But I do tend to like a lot of the nameberry favorites like [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name]. It’s certainly why I enjoy posting here!
I love [name]Hannah[/name] & [name]Cadence[/name], as well as Aderyn (very similar sound to [name]Addison[/name])… I also love [name]Harlow[/name], [name]Shiloh[/name] & [name]Sunday[/name] (all star-babies)…Then some of my names are a little more ‘eccentric’ including [name]Holiday[/name], [name]Prairie[/name], [name]Meadow[/name], [name]Monet[/name], & Poema
I still love [name]Isabelle[/name] even with it’s rampant popularity. And while I generally cringe at the addition of a Y to a name that doesn’t need it, or replacing an I, I do love [name]Jayne[/name]. My dad is [name]Jay[/name] and my sister’s middle is [name]Jayne[/name] after him, so it is a family thing. I love [name]Wendy[/name] and I love [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Rory[/name] for girls.
My favorite non-NB names are [name]Hailey[/name], [name]Aiden[/name] (if only it weren’t super-popular and there just weren’t so many rhyming names!), [name]Isabella[/name]–which would totally be a NB name if it weren’t so popular, [name]Ava[/name] (ditto), Neytiri (a total guilty pleasure–it’s from Avatar), [name]Jennifer[/name] (again, a great name with a unique sound and colorful history and would so be a NB name if it weren’t so popular), [name]Julie[/name]/[name]Julianne[/name]/[name]Julianna[/name], [name]Valerie[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], and [name]Tosca[/name] (when I made a thread about it, only one other person liked it).
I’m a little all over the map as well. I love some of the more traditional “namberry-trending” names. But I also like some of the populars and star-baby names like [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] (thank god because it’s my mn), and [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Lyric[/name], [name]Slate[/name], [name]Sloane[/name], [name]Shiloh[/name], [name]Pilot[/name] and [name]Knox[/name]… and, and, and… though as some of you might have noticed I’m visually not the biggest fan of the letters y and x (odd because I have both in my name) - but clearly that’s just a personal thing.
PS: love this thread. And 'berries ask us about your “heretic” names. I’d love to hear why you like them and what they mean to you.
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Addison[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name] (doesn’t really get flack on Nameberry, but it’s not a very NB name!)
[name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Isabelle[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name]
[name]Jadon[/name]
[name]Brinley[/name]
[name]Gracelyn[/name]
[name]Brady[/name] (on a girl)
I would honestly use [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name], but none of the others. While I respect others’ prerogative to use those names, and would even be happy (maybe even over-the-moon) to see a child with those names, for my own children I guess I just have a higher standard. It’s not that I think those are bad names–and I pray it’s not because I think I’m better than anyone, or that I think my children have “better names”–I just want something timeless, something charming for my children, and I can much more imagine having children named [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], and [name]Everett[/name] than [name]Gracelyn[/name], [name]Brinley[/name], [name]Aidan[/name], [name]Brady[/name], and [name]Gavin[/name]. No matter what, though, I’m against creative spellings, lol. I don’t see the point in using Gavynne when [name]Gavin[/name] is so much more straightforward and aesthetically pleasing.
[name]Gavin[/name]! It was my first boy name crush, then a friend used it. I also love [name]Madeline[/name], but pronounced Mad-eh-line. I also think [name]Olivia[/name] is lovely, I just wish every third baby in my hometown were not named [name]Olivia[/name].
I feel like I have acceptions to every rule. I love nickname names but I don’t think I’d actually use one. Some gems I will probably never get to use are [name]Hatsy[/name], [name]Callie[/name], [name]Mamie[/name], [name]Lotte[/name], [name]Emme[/name], [name]Monty[/name], [name]Wiley[/name]. I like [name]Sinclaire[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Arleigh[/name], [name]Carlisle[/name], [name]Wendell[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], & [name]Sawyer[/name] on girls. I like [name]Locklyn[/name], [name]Iolyn[/name], [name]Gracelyn[/name], [name]Quinlyn[/name], & [name]Jazlyn[/name]. I like [name]Baylor[/name], [name]Sailor[/name], [name]Braeden[/name], [name]Nevyn[/name], & [name]Daylen[/name]. I would consider [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Alyssa[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Lauren[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Lily[/name], & [name]Ava[/name] if I didn’t know so many of them. Same story with [name]Michael[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], & [name]Johnathan[/name]. I really like the name [name]Homer[/name] :). I love hearing other people’s personal acceptions to THE RULES; the ones they like even though it doesn’t fit with their usual style.
