Where do you go to do more in depth name research as far as meanings, cultural/historical usage and origins research goes? The baby name sites are so stingy with their descriptions, and meanings vary wildly. If it helps I am most interested in [name]German[/name]/English, Welsh, Scandinavian, Greek and Latin name origins.
Some countries, or language academies (for the regulation of a language) have in-depth databases. Sometimes they can be hard to read if you don’t speak the language, but Google Chrome had a “translate this page” option, usually, so sometimes that helps.
Behind the Name is a good resource, too.
Wikipedia usually has a page about names, names of a certain language, or timeframe, so you could always read up there. There are a lot of links to Saints, so those usually has an etymology section. Wikipedia is good for sourcing too, so if there are links at the bottom of the page for their resources, you can follow them.
I like the blogs nookofnames and britishbabynames. I also love real history books, I think I’ve got a whole wall dedicated to them. Behindthename is good, but don’t believe everything they say about Scandinavian names.
I like behindthename.com as previously mentioned, but http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/ offers advanced search filters etc. if you are interested in names of certain origin/meaning or with certain letters. Not sure how accurate it is, but there are A LOT of names there, including some deliciously unusual and attractive ones. Good luck.
