In love with Asa Brooks, but....

I am due with #2 at the end of [name]June[/name]/early [name]July[/name]. We find out on Feb. 6th whether it’s a boy or a girl. If it’s a girl, I am solidly sold on [name]Cora[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (great great grandmother’s and grandmother’s name). For a boy, [name]Callum[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Theodore[/name] is grandfather’s name) is the choice right now, but I can’t stop thinking of other alternatives as I don’t think I’m 100% sold on it. Today, I put together [name]Asa[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] and I am IN [name]LOVE[/name] with it (our last name is [name]Bradley[/name]). I love it so much that I would convince DH immediately that it should be our #1 solid choice as soon as he gets home…

BUT there are two problems with it. The first problem is that [name]Asa[/name] is the name of my very good family friend’s ex-fiance. She is remarried to someone else now, but basically he cheated on her and they separated just a few months before the wedding. It was a nasty breakup and I’m not sure how everyone would feel about me naming my son [name]Asa[/name]. The second problem is that [name]Brooks[/name] is the first name of my other friend’s 6 month old. They are very protective of their children’s unique names, so I don’t know if that would be weird.

What do you guys think? Should I stick with [name]Callum[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]? Should I go with [name]Asa[/name] [name]Brooks[/name] regardless of what others think? Should I just chill out and wait to see if baby is a girl (yeah right, I’m obsessed)? Or, should I keep looking to see if I fall in love with something else? BTW - our first son is [name]Silas[/name] [name]Derrick[/name] if that makes a difference.

Also, alternative suggestions for first name, middle name, or whole name would also be appreciated!!

Hm… that’s a tough one. Honestly, I think the fact that [name]Asa[/name] is the name of your friend’s nasty ex-fiance is something to really consider. I don’t think I’d do it. Also, [name]Asa[/name] and [name]Silas[/name] are quite close.
That said, I prefer [name]Asa[/name] to [name]Callum[/name].
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]? [name]Asher[/name]-“blessed”
[name]Ari[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]? [name]Ari[/name]-“lion”

And, as an alternative to [name]Brooks[/name] (wouldn’t use, if it’s the name of your friend’s child)
[name]Beau[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]

I’d skip [name]Asa[/name], but use [name]Brooks[/name]. You’re using [name]Brooks[/name] in the middle, and it’s really not all that unique for your friend to be “protective” of it, is rather silly.

[name]Brooks[/name] is my middle name and I give you permission to use it. [name]Asa[/name], on the other hand, should probably take some consideration.

Hmm [name]Asa[/name] is an unusual name. Is the ex fiance the only one you’ve met? [name]How[/name] long ago did it happen? [name]How[/name] close are you to [name]Asa[/name]'s ex? Is she fairly content with her life as it is now?

I think the usability of the name depends on these things.

As for [name]Brooks[/name] in the middle, I think it’s fair game. As a first name I might feel differently but in the middle I think it’s ok.

[name]Asa[/name] [name]Booker[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] [name]Booker[/name]
[name]Asa[/name] [name]Woodrow[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] [name]Woodrow[/name]
[name]Asa[/name] [name]Bruno[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] [name]Bruno[/name]
[name]Asa[/name] [name]Boris[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] [name]Boris[/name]

Thanks guys for the alternate suggestions! I really do like [name]Ari[/name] as well. [name]Ari[/name] [name]Bram[/name]? Hmm. I also like [name]Ace[/name], which is close but not exact.

Taz, her ex is the only [name]Asa[/name] I’ve ever met. The breakup happened about 6 years ago and I am not at all close to him now (haven’t seen him in years). She is married to somebody new and is happy with him and currently trying for a baby. I honestly don’t think she’d care, but I don’t want to step on any toes because she is way too nice to tell me no even if I asked her!

I wouldn’t use it. The child would bring back memories for your close friend. It doesn’t seem right.

To me, [name]Ezra[/name] has same feel as [name]Asa[/name]. Family name trumps a name you just like for mn spot ([name]IMO[/name]). I like [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bradley[/name]!

others -
[name]Cormac[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bradley[/name] ([name]Mack[/name])
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bradley[/name]
[name]Elias[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bradley[/name] ([name]Eli[/name])

[name]Ezra[/name] & [name]Ari[/name] or maybe [name]Elias[/name] are great.

Maybe have a conversation with the family friend?

I love [name]Elias[/name], but it definitely sounds too close to [name]Silas[/name] in my opinion. [name]Ezra[/name] is a good option!

Any other names that share this sound? You guys are so good at this

I completely prefer [name]Callum[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] over [name]Asa[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]. There s something about [name]Brooks[/name] that I don’t like at all. Then theres the breakup and he friend so two more negatives plus you’re losing the grandfather name in the middle.

Yes! [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]Ari[/name]! [name]Both[/name] are humbly beautiful like [name]Silas[/name], fine but down-to-earth. [name]Ezra[/name] has just a whisper of geezer-coolness that fits perfectly with [name]Silas[/name], and [name]Ari[/name] has that elemental, organic quality, similar to [name]Silas[/name].

Also, I think it’s a great idea to use your grandfather’s name.
I really like
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Booker[/name] or
[name]Ari[/name] [name]Bram[/name]
but [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Theo[/name] or [name]Ari[/name] [name]Theo[/name] (or [name]Teo[/name]) could be very sweet too.

OOPS…missed that you already had a [name]Silas[/name]. Agree that [name]Elias[/name] is way too close!
What about [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Abram[/name], [name]Orion[/name], [name]Tobin[/name] or [name]Eamon[/name]?
