In my opinion, the name Helena is / sounds

Please give your opinion. Also interested in opinions on pronunciation. Many thanks!

I love [name]Helena[/name]. I think it’s cute and spunky, with lots of vintage charm. As for pronunciation, I say Hell-AY-na, though I sometimes I think of Hell-en-uh. It’s a wonderful name.

Makes me think of a goddess. Very pretty, but not in an intimidating way. I would say Hell-en-uh

Gorgeous and elegant! I like all 3 prns. Maybe He [name]LAY[/name] na best, but it used to be a lot more clearly ahead of [name]Helen[/name]-a, which I now like equally or more some days. He [name]LEE[/name] na is pretty too, but I do like it less I’ll admit.

Ha lay na…I don’t like the other pronouctions… I wouldn’t use it…maybe for a cat

I love [name]Helena[/name] (hel-en-uh). It’s soft and beautiful and I love it a lot.

There’s also the pronunciations Hel-een, He-lay-nuh, Hel-een-uh. I like Hel-en-uh the most though, ha-lay-nuh second.

[name]Helena[/name] [heh-len-ah] is…

gorgeous, classic, charming, refreshing, sweet, understated! I love it. I’m currently trying to decide between [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Eleni[/name] for my own list. I love the nn [name]Leni[/name] for it, but I also love [name]Lena[/name] ([name]LEN[/name]-ah; [name]LAY[/name]-nah; or something a bit in between) as a nn, and [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Elle[/name]. I think it’s utterly perfect.

Good luck!

[name]Helena[/name] is sooo elegant to me. It’s classic, timeless, gorgeous, feminin, and very beautiful. one of my fav name ever.

I am not objective, because I named my daughter [name]Helena[/name], but the reason we chose the name is that we think it is elegant and feminine without seeming fussy or too frilly. It’s classic and works in several languages. It’s a versatile name, with lots of nickname options. We say it hell-en-uh, but we think the other two pronunciations are just as beautiful. (We are in the U.S., and because of the city in [name]Montana[/name] we sort of think of this as the “American” pronunciation, although plenty of Americans also say he-lee-nuh or he-lay-nuh. I always imagine that when my daughter is an adolescent and wants to reinvent herself she might be satisfied just changing her pronunciation instead of her whole name.)

I think pronounced Hel-AY-nah it’s beautiful, but I don’t like the helen-ah pronunciation at all. That’s probably because I live in an area with a very large Spanish speaking population though.

I love this name! I was considering it for awhile myself and can’t remember exactly why it fell out of the running…
the only reason I can remember is thinking it was too close to “helen” I don’t know… and I didn’t like helen at the time for some reason…
but it’s a really classic, beautiful name.

When I’ve read it on boards I sound it out as “hel-en-ah”. It’s funny because my friend recently wanted to use the name [name]Helen[/name] and I couldn’t believe it! I was thinking it sounded so elderly. I kept my mouth shut though  Then a few days later I see it on a name board with RAVE reviews. So I suppose I am in the minority on this one.

[name]One[/name] of my favorite movies is Raising [name]Helen[/name] and the whole movie I just remember thinking the name [name]Helen[/name] was not believable on [name]Kate[/name] [name]Hudson[/name]. I think I just cannot seem to shake the image of a white-headed woman!
