In terms of popularity, is Charlotte on track to be the next Emma/Sophia/Isabella?

What do you guys think? That is my main hesitation in using it. I’m afraid of my daughter being in a class with 5 other Charlottes. But I’ve loved it for so long and it is one of the few names my husband and I actually agree on! AGH!!

I’m a HUGE [name]Charlotte[/name] enthusiast! The name is definitely on the rise, but I don’t think that it’s as popular as [name]Emma[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Isabella[/name] yet. I’ve only met one little girl named [name]Charlotte[/name] but know at least 3 [name]Emma[/name]'s, [name]Sophia[/name]'s and [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]'s. If you love the name you should use it though! It’s beautiful, feminine and elegant! Good luck with the naming process!!

The thing about [name]Charlotte[/name] (and the other names you mentioned) is that they get and remain fairly popular because they’re classic, real names, not based totally on random trends and whims. No one will ever have issues with saying or spelling these names. If you love it and always have, then you shouldn’t feel constrained about using it just because other people like it too. The need to have every kid have a totally unique name is a pretty recent phenomenon, and it shouldn’t put you off using the names you like.

Absolutely, and TBH I don’t like it enough to use it in spite of that. It’s a personal judgment call that depends on how much you truly love the name, as someone else said on a thread about [name]Sophia[/name]. Since I don’t love it, I’d easily get sick of hearing it all the time on everyone else’s kid - but that probably won’t apply to someone like you who’s loved it a long time!

Honestly, yes.

But it’s still a beautiful name, like [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Emma[/name], I don’t imagine ill ever have name fatigue with [name]Charlotte[/name] the way I have with [name]Bella[/name] and had with [name]Madison[/name] and further back with [name]Ashley[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name].

I think so too…I see it getting very popular…but you should use it…any ways…I am so burned out on [name]Emma[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]…ugh perfectly lovely names just waaaaaay over used…

I’d use it if you love it anyway. I love [name]Emily[/name]. [name]Emily[/name] is nobody’s idea of a new name, nobody’s like “[name]Emily[/name], how refreshing” or anything like that. But I love it anyway. I wouldn’t get aggravated hearing it on other people’s kids because I didn’t love it for being utterly remarkable and uncommon, only for being very sweet and classic.

I don’t quite feel that way about [name]Charlotte[/name] - I like it but I am sort of wilting on it, it is pretty but I’m just… it doesn’t hold me… much like [name]Sophia[/name], it feels pretty and I don’t think its unfortunate to have as a name, but it doesn’t speak to me. It’s easy for ME to say “Oh, [name]Charlotte[/name]'s too popular, [name]Sophia[/name]'s too popular…” I’m not nearly as quick to pull the too-popular trigger on [name]Emily[/name]/[name]Lily[/name]/[name]Caitlin[/name], simply because I’ve been fond of them forever.

So do you love it?

Yes. I think it will continue to rise. Unfortunately, I think [name]Scarlett[/name] will continue to rise along with it which is a name I love. First I fell in love with [name]Charlotte[/name], then it hit the top 100 list, then I turned to [name]Scarlett[/name] and now it’s in the 80th position.

I still may end up using [name]Scarlett[/name] anyway but I know what you are feeling!

Well, my daughter’s name is [name]Charlotte[/name] & I still love & adore it. Go for it. She is the only one in her class!

It is popular, but I don’t think it will reach #1 or fade off any time soon either as it is a classic.
Popularity is a consideration- it is a name we like too and it does make me hesitate a little.

it is becoming more popular certainly but whether it takes on the emma/sophia/isabella names is to be seen. to me there are a couple things to consider - 1 is that popular today is not the same as popular was in the jennifer days. i.e. many fewer girls are named the top names now than they were prior to the 80s/90s so you won’t hear even the #1 name as much as you did then. also, i think it really depends on how much popularity matters to you. obviously lots of people make the choice to use them anyway or they wouldn’t be so popular. but if you will cringe every time you introduce her or freak out every year when you check the standings then maybe it is not for you. similar to a poster above i have a sofia and while popularity gave me pause when we had her we chose it anyway and i am glad we did bc i love it. so like others said, its about how much you love it and how much you care about popularity. my name has never been higher than 300 until now when i am in my 30s and it recently hit the top 100 - so you never know…

Unfortunatly yes. She would be one of many in school. [name]Just[/name] think of all the [name]Jennifer[/name]'s and [name]Jason[/name]'s when we were kids! You will find something better. Good luck.
