We like the name [name]Barrett[/name], and we want to use my husband’s father’s name, [name]Jeffrey[/name], as a middle name. [name]Do[/name] you think he would get teased for having the initials BJ(W)? I didn’t think of it, but my husband is afraid he might. Thanks!
I don’t think so, my fiance’ has in the initials BS and he was never teased… I think people over think the initials thing… Kids won’t know what BJ stands for.
[name]How[/name] often will he be using all three initials where others will see/read them? Probably not often, if ever. I wouldn’t worry about it.
I agree with the others. Kids aren’t likely to know what his initials are. My husband has a girl cousin whose initials are BJ. Heck, they even called her BJ for a while and even when BJ was her nickname no one made fun of her. She’s a teen too now.
I wouldn’t worry about it.
The boy who grew up down the road from me is named [name]Billy[/name]-[name]Joe[/name], but no one has ever called him anything but BJ. He has never been teased as far as I’m aware, honestly I never even made the connection until I read it in this thread.
And it’s even less of a problem in your case, most people wont even ask about his middle name, unless of course you want him to be called [name]Barrett[/name] [name]Jeffery[/name] and even then I’m sure no one would consider it.
Good [name]Luck[/name],
Gracen xx
I know a couple BJ’s, boys and girls, and they all got made fun of from about age 11 on. Kids won’t know? Maybe not in early primary but kids know, in my experience, right around that middleschool age where teasing is its worst.
I think it MIGHT be a problem IF his first name was a B and his last was a J. But since his full set of initials are BJW, I really don’t think it would be a problem. A good friend of mine, as well as my aunt, have those very same initials (BJW) and neither are teased. [name]Just[/name] don’t nickname him BJ!
My husband’s initial are BJS and yes he was teased as a young teen and adult.(Mostly for BJ not BS) Initials are one thing that we are hyper aware of when naming our kids.
Am I just completely dense? What is wrong with BJ? I have also known people named BJ and I never heard anything wrong with it. I must be missing something. I am having the same problem though. My favorite name right now starts with an F and our last name starts with a C. I am worried about the initials FC, but I don’t know if that is a big problem or not. I think you would be fine with BJW, but it all depends on the kids around your son i guess.
Its a very popular slang for oral sex where I come from and I learned the term around age 11-12. I first met someone named initials B.J. around 20-something and I said something about it to my then-15 year old brother and his reaction was “how could her mother [name]DO[/name] that to her?!”
It might not be in as common use in other places, I guess?
Omg, My fiance’ has the same initials! BJS, I didn’t realize that until I remembered his middle name was Joseph. So if that helps in your decision, I didn’t even notice BJ, I noticed BS. It might depend on where you are from or how popular he was in high school/college. My fiance’ had no issues with BJ, BS, BJS, etc… He was never teased. We both grew up in Wisconsin and are living in Minnesota. So maybe the Northern states don’t really care for the BJ… plus they are initials! Who is going to know unless the kid tells their friends their middle name? I don’t know most of my friend’s middle names and I totally forgot my fiance’s until I read this!
I wouldn’t worry about it unless it really bothers you and if BJ is a common slang in your area.
@Whit32
What’s wrong with FC? What does that stand for?
I was in a show with a BJ, I snickered about it at 12 but just the once and got over it.
@catloverd- I am worried about FC because it might be changed to f***? Though now I know at least some people won’t jump to that conclusion
@stripedsocks- Thank you for explaining that to me. I have honestly never heard of that. I’m in [name]Texas[/name] so maybe that’s why? I am a bit of a prude, so that could explain it too
