I think this name is unique, has great meaning and an adorable nn [name]Indie[/name].
What do you think?
It’s usable?
I think there are better ways to get to [name]Indie[/name]. [name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Indiana[/name] are two that I immediately think of. I’d group Independance with names such as [name]Destiny[/name] and [name]Heaven[/name] - I don’t rate these names very highly - and would feel sorry for the child who got stuck with Independance. She wouldn’t even be able to spell it until she was in secondary school!
I actually think Independence would work, though I might be more inclined to put it in the middle. But if people are using [name]Temperance[/name], [name]Constance[/name], etc. why not Independence?
I know an adorable little girl named Independence so it’s doable
I don’t think Independence would work as a name. All I think of is Independence [name]Day[/name]. There are much better ways to get the nn [name]Indie[/name] such as [name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Indiana[/name] that the poster milliemm pointed out.
Sorry to but it reminds me of the ocean liner (SS Independence) rather than a name for a human.
I’m going to be a bit harsh for a moment:
The very first impression I get of the name is that it comes off as the child of an overly patriotic gun-toting redneck from the backwoods of the American South or maybe somewhere in the midwest.
Disregarding the initial impression I can see the appeal of the name and [name]Indie[/name] is adorable.
Trying to see the name from another angle, I can easily see how the name Independence could signify independent thought and action. This is a much more positive and meaningful association.
I’m a person who likes [name]Liberty[/name]. So I should like Independence. And I DID immediately think “that’s a cute way to get to [name]Penny[/name], too…”
But I wouldn’t really use it in real life. I’m not sure where it breaks down for me, considering my love for [name]Liberty[/name], but it does. I think part of the issue is rhythm - [name]Liberty[/name]‘s 3 syllables ends-in-y is not unlike a lot of girls’ names from the common ([name]Emily[/name], [name]Natalie[/name]) to the NB-approved ([name]Romilly[/name], [name]Verity[/name]) to the mildly dated but very familiar ([name]Ebony[/name], [name]Valerie[/name]). And Independence is longer and quirkier.
But I like Immanuela which is even longer. So obviously its not just length that’s bothering me.
EDIT: Grammar disaster.
I don’t think this works for a real person. I’d leave it as a guilty pleasure.
Already it’s been misspelled! I always write IndepenDANCE too.
This is one Puritan virtue name that should not be revived.
If [name]Temperance[/name] is #843, I don’t see why Independence would be so bizarre.
