India- WDYT?

[name]India[/name] was mildly popular in the 80s and 90s (never much above #300), and I was thinking that little [name]India[/name] Hemsworth would push the name to greater popularity. It has so much going for it: starts with ‘I’, ends in a, old-fashionedness (was previously in the top 1000 from 1880-1910), attractive place name, and there are a few adult Indias to balance it out ([name]India[/name] Hicks for one was a flower girl at [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Diana[/name]'s wedding 30 years ago and is now a designer).

But…[name]India[/name]'s been on a sharp decline for the last 10 years and fell out of the top 1000 altogether last year. It’s not my favourite sort of name- -ia names and places names just aren’t my style- but it seems like a really attractive option for both of those styles (and with the historical usage, softens the modern trendiness of other places names like [name]Brooklyn[/name], [name]London[/name], and [name]Paris[/name]-on-girls).

What’s going on?! Does anyone really like/dislike [name]India[/name]? Have any idea why it’s fallen out of favour while (to my ear) similar [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]London[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Isla[/name]…all get more love?!

I really like [name]India[/name],it is the only place name I’ve ever considered using. Being in the UK I can’t comment on it’s popularity or lack thereof in the USA. I’m not sure where it is in terms of popularity in the UK…it’s just one of those names that someone, somewhere in the Uk will use, without being astronomically popular.

I like it, it reminds me of Gone With the Wind. I just don’t think I could name baby girl after a country.

I don’t really like it. It is cute, but it is too place name for me. It is much better than a lot of the other place names though.

I really like it but could never use it as I have a few close friends that are [name]Indian[/name] and I feel that would make it kind of weird for me to name my daughter [name]India[/name]. As for why it’s not as popular these days, I feel like in general, place names aren’t as popular as they used to be. I remember running into girls named [name]Kenya[/name] and [name]Asia[/name] growing up and I don’t really hear either of those these days.

[name]Lovely[/name] name

I really like [name]India[/name], and was secretly glad to see it drop out of the 1000… I think it has a pretty sound, with a vintage/romantic image with a slightly exotic background
