Hi! We are expecting a baby boy soon and are having a really tough time finding an Indian (South Asian) boy name that we like. Please let me know your thoughts on the following: Ishaan (pronounced “ee-shahn”), Zaiden, Niam (rhymes with liam), Sajan (pronounced “sah-jun”), and Jaiden.
One other name we’re considering is Ayan (pronounced either “a-yun” or “ay-yun”).
We’d like something modern and relatively easy to pronounce, but something that also has some connection to the Indian culture.
I like [name_m]Ishaan[/name_m] and [name_f]Niam[/name_f] best. [name_m]Sajan[/name_m] is nice, too. I don’t care for [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u] and [name_m]Zaiden[/name_m] because they remind me of all the super trendy American names that end in -aiden and are just absolutely everywhere.
[name_m]Nalin[/name_m], Nivaan, and Sopan are some of my own current favorites that you may like.
I love [name_m]Ishaan[/name_m]! [name_m]Sachin[/name_m] is my favourite [name_f]Indian[/name_f] boy’s name, but I’m not sure if it feels modern enough for you?
Thank you all for your responses! Quick question since [name_m]Ishaan[/name_m] seems to be a clear favorite – can you guys please share your thoughts as to why you like that name best?
I think [name_m]Ishaan[/name_m] sticks out for me because it has a very easy and intuitive pronunciation, yet it is also identifiably [name_f]Indian[/name_f]. I also like that it means wealth, although I do like [name_m]Sajan[/name_m]'s meaning even more.
Not knowing anything about [name_f]Indian[/name_f] names, I like [name_f]Niam[/name_f] and [name_m]Sajan[/name_m] the best! I also know an (adult) [name_m]Ishaan[/name_m] and like the sound. I may put [name_m]Zaiden[/name_m] and [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u] last as they remind me too much of the current -aiden fad in the US… but all are great choices!
