So I recently have been loving the name [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] for a girl and nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f] or [name_f]Indy[/name_f]…
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is usable as a first? I would not hesitate to use it as a middle but I am not sure about a first. Its a bit daring, but is it too much? Would you picture a blonde little one or a darker haired girl? Is [name_f]Indy[/name_f] a cute nn to you?
Yes, totally usable as a first name! I also really like the nickname [name_f]Indie[/name_f]!
You can basically have any middle name with [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]. Out of your list I like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] summer the best
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is perfect! [name_f]Indy[/name_f] as a nn is great! I picture a dark haired girl with blue eyes and freckles. But it seems like everyone makes their name their own, and I don’t know anyone with the name [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]!
I have a son named [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], his main nn is [name_f]Indy[/name_f]. I noticed that it increased quite a bit for girls in particular on the recent SSA list. My mom, who lives in a small town, ran into an acquaintance at the grocery store who knew of a little girl [name_u]Indigo[/name_u].
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is sticking in my head for some reason.
I have an almost 2 year old son named just [name_f]Indy[/name_f] I would have totally used [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] but my husband wasn’t into it. Since name [name_m]Bing[/name_m] him I met a 10 year old fro named just indie. Both my kid and indie girl get loads of compliments on their name. [name_f]Indie[/name_f] is pretty pop in Australia. I say go for it totally usable!!
I just started a post on the name [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], before I read your post! I love it! And love [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a nickname. I too was not sure if it is too ‘out there’. Where in the world are you, out of interest? I worry that it might not translate to an adult woman in a corporate work placed that is where she would choose to be. With my son, I knew straight away his name was ‘the one’, it’s such a big decision.
Thanks so much for the replies everyone!! You have made my love for the name grow more:)
I think my favorite is [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Melody[/name_f] as well wondering if it is too much “word names” together . Trying to come up with some non word name middles now.
[name_f]Indy[/name_f] for a boy is so darn cute I love tha too !!
@theupsidedown, I am in Toronto canada and have never heard anyone with the name. I think that too but then I look at all the professionals with weird names or spellings and they seek okay
Looove this name! [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] or [name_f]Melody[/name_f] paint such a pretty picture. I would use it except my last name is cline…indi-cline…so yay for someone who can use it.
I love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f]! So spunky and unexpected. From your list, I really like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. Some ideas I have are [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Maren[/name_f].
I think it works well.
I know a scattering of Indigos (all girls) here in Australia. The Indies I know come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds (though all have at least one parent born in Australia), and I don’t associate the name with any particular physical traits.
It’s not a particularly popular name here, but it does seem to crop up pretty often in certain communities - most of the Indigos I know have siblings with nature names or spiritually meaningful names.
All of the Indigos I know are called [name_f]Indy[/name_f]/[name_f]Indie[/name_f] sometimes (but nicknames are very common here, and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is quite a common name,* so I imagine some parents are using [name_f]Indy[/name_f] as a way of giving an unusual name a familiar nickname).
The name might be received differently where you are, but it would work fine here.
Nameberry only has Australian data up to 2016 - [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]'s actually dropped a bit here, but it’s still at #84.
I think it’s absolutely usable! I love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] for a girl’s first name, though I’d use it as a MN too! It’s in my signature as a name I definitely want to use for one of my own kids. I love the NN [name_f]Indie[/name_f], (not quite as fond of [name_f]Indy[/name_f]) and I think you should go for it. I can easily picture both a dark haired [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and a blonde [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], but for whatever reason a platinum blonde [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is what I immediately think of.
Some ideas for middles from my list are:
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Acacia[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
I’m also a fan of [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] & [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]- but are those names too, well, colorful? Seeing as how [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] are all used as adjectives for colors to some extent?
