Indigo for a boy?

I posted this in the baby names forum, but thought I’d try it here too. Last year there were roughly the same number of boys named Indigo as girls, yet NB lists it as a girls name.

I really like it, but I’m not sure it works. So what do you think? Can you picture a boy, teenager, young man, father and grandfather named Indigo? Can you picture an adult of either sex named Indigo?

To me, it has kind of a cool, cowboy vibe.

Also- I realize that Indigo is a color/plant name and should be genderless, but that’s not always the case. Indogo’s neighbor on the color wheel is Violet…

I think its unusual enough that a boy named [name]Indigo[/name] isn’t going to be like a boy named [name]Violet[/name] if you kwim.

Plus [name]Indy[/name] is a cool nicname, and O endings, in general, seem to be on more definitive masculine names.

I love this name. Originally, for a girl. The more I hear it, the more I feel it would suit a boy better. Maybe because of the resemblance to [name]Inigo[/name]. I think it works for either gender, a true unisex name.

I actually prefer [name]Indigo[/name] for a boy. Between the nn [name]Indy[/name], the -o and it’s similarity to [name]Inigo[/name] (I’m clearly of the [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] generation) I think this one can easily “go to the boys”. (Plus really girls already have [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Lilac[/name] they don’t need to hog the whole section of the color wheel. ;)).

I prefer it for a boy as well, but I think you have to be somewhat of a hippie to pull it off and enjoy it. It’s hard to picture, say, an accountant named [name]Indigo[/name]! Naming your child this would express that you are a creative family, and that creativity and imagination will be a big part of his life - which I think is wonderful : )

I love it on a boy, so a thumbs up from me.

[name]Robert[/name] Downey [name]Jr[/name] has a son named [name]Indigo[/name] and fwiw I thought it was a boys name only until someone posted otherwise on the forums so yes I think it actually works better for a boy.
