Initial hunting

In my family it’s traditional to match initials of ancestors who have died. We don’t usually match the whole name.

I definitely want a first daughter to have at least an R name (first or middle) and preferably an I.R. or I.L. name if I can find a pairing that speaks to my husband. These are for my grandmothers, R can honour both and I.R. or I.L. would be each individually.

If I am blessed enough to have another daughter (and if Nameberry doesn’t get tired of me by then!) I would love to use the initials T and/or B.

I especially love old or archaic names, with their correct spellings, and botanicals, and would love to find more with these initials.

For my style, here’s some I like but with the wrong initials. I’m not using these. These are just a style gauge.

Simple/Classic: [name]Jane[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name]. - Classic girls names, spelt correctly, that can have adorable nicknames but the name itself is one to be taken seriously

Flowery: [name]Amaryllis[/name], [name]Amarantha[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Jonquil[/name], [name]Zephirine[/name], [name]Zelda[/name]. - Slightly eccentric, but very feminine.

Gaelic: [name]Aisling[/name], [name]Niamh[/name], [name]Aoife[/name], [name]Saoirse[/name] - My husband is Irish-descent. I wouldn’t mind honoring that.

Biblical: [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Judith[/name], [name]Keziah[/name]. <–Mostly not New Testament.

Can you come up with some girls names/sibsets for me that are:

R. (but not Rachel, Rebecca, Ruth, Renee, or Rose. Rose-elaborations are okay but not Rose itself)
I.L. or I.R.
T. and/or B. alone or together in either order.

Instead of T. since the name I’m honoring (Toiba) means ‘Dove,’ if you want you can use Dove directly itself. Or any T name you like.

Thank you in advance! I have some on my list already but I’m fascinated to see what occurs to Nameberrys! You guys are great and have great taste.

Okay  [name]Iris[/name] [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Rue[/name], [name]Irina[/name] [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Lenore[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Robin[/name], [name]Ida[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Idelle[/name] [name]Lilia[/name], there’s just a few I may add some

For R…

[name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Dove[/name] was the first name that came to mind. [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Dove[/name] would also be lovely. Other R names to consider are [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Rafaela[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Renata[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Roisin[/name], [name]Rosamond[/name], and [name]Rowena[/name].

For IL and IR…

I immediately thought of [name]Iris[/name] for you. There’s also [name]Ianthe[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Inez[/name], [name]Irene[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name]. Perhaps you’d like something along the lines of [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]India[/name] [name]Roisin[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Lyra[/name], or [name]Iris[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name]?

For T or B…

For T names I thought of [name]Thea[/name], [name]Thora[/name], [name]Tzipora[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Talia[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name], [name]Tamar[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Tirzah[/name], and [name]Tilda[/name]. For B names maybe something like [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Begonia[/name], [name]Belle[/name], [name]Bluma[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Bluebell[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], or [name]Bryony[/name]. If you were wanting to combine the initials some combo ideas are [name]Thora[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Tzipora[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Talia[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Tamar[/name] [name]Begonia[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name] [name]Bluma[/name], [name]Tirzah[/name] [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Thea[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name], or [name]Tilda[/name] [name]Bridget[/name].

[name]Isla[/name] [name]Rose[/name] was the first name to come to mind. Other ideas:

[name]Isla[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Isabel[/name] [name]Roxana[/name]
[name]India[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Indira[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Inez[/name] [name]Lila[/name]

You ladies are lovely. Thank you so much!

Hahaha I showed my husband some of this list and he’s panned Isla before but now he says “oh I don’t mind it, it’s not bad.” Maybe he listens to you all more than me but hey I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Had never heard Idelle before, am noting it down as I digest how I feel about it.

sodallas3: you pinpointed my style with Imogen Rue, Irina Ruby, and Isabel Lenore right down to my favourite spelling of Isabel. Ruby and Isabelle are incredibly popular here (think top 3) but they are nice.

agirlinred: you have so many of my favourites. Do you think Tamar is usable? I love your combos: Talia Bluebell, Tirzah Bryony, Tilda Bridget and Iris Lorelei - inspired. And I adore Rosemary and Rosamund.

I love Imogen - and I’m seeing recommendations for it over and over which makes me love it more - but husband isn’t feeling it… I really like it though, and especially Ivy.

Indianruby: Indira Luna & Inez Lila are that touch of unpredictable without being unpronouncable, thank you. I wish I could use Ramona but I can’t.

Want to thank the thread for bringing India to my attention as a name too because I would not have thought of it ever.
