Initial Woes

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

First time poster! Recently found out that we are welcoming a baby girl this fall and I am over the moon excited. Naturally, it’s time to start thinking about names.

I’m wondering whether other people care about initials that sort of spell a word. We like the name [name_u]Bryn/name_u and I also love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but our last name starts with an R. Is it bad news for her initials to be BVR? Makes me think of beaver. :frowning:

Anyway, just curious if others consider this when picking a name or if it really doesn’t matter that much!

I don’t think the initials BVR are an issue. I do consider initials when narrowing down my options, but usually there’s not anything to be concerned about.

I wouldn’t have thought twice about the initials BVR. Personally the only initials I’d avoid are those that spell actual words that could be inappropriate or initials that create a well-known abbreviation/acronym. (For example, A.S.S. or K.K.K.)

Would’ve never in a million years thought of BVR as beaver. I don’t see this as an issue.

I think initials matter to an extent, but BVR as “beaver” is no reason for you not to use [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (which is absolutely lovely)! I don’t think anyone will care enough about her initials enough to connect it to “beaver”.

You’re overthinking it for sure, BVR is fine!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate hearing that this probably won’t come up much.

I don’t really find initials to be too much cause for concern, as (in my experience at least) it is extremely rare to actually use all three initials at once. Also, I really don’t think the beaver thing is all too prominent here at all. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be lovely.

I didn’t think of beaver until you said something.

People only use initials for dr papers anyways.

I don’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] that much though because to me it’s just a color, and would choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or Gratuity instead.

I think BVR is totally fine!

We have real issues with this though - husband is sold on the initial A, and his last name starts with a G.

An A initial in the middle spot, paired with some of my favourite names, leads to SAG, HAG, FAG, GAG, BAG, RAG - it’s awful! But we’ve struggled to find a name beginning with A that works as a first name.

I don’t think anyone will notice tbh. What about the name [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]? Its a fall name as in the UK we call fall [name_f]Autum[/name_f].

Not an issue at all!

BVR is not something I think needs to be avoided. KKK does. Possibly FUK or WTF, etc. But your example is completely harmless.

[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is one we’ve discussed as well - I really like it. Pretty and something you’ve heard before, but not super common.

Thank you! Oh that’s hard and I would be wondering about the same thing. Not sure what your taste is but some of my favorite A names:

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] (basically all things [name_f]Anne[/name_f])
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]/[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]

Good luck!

You’re definitely overthinking. BVR is totally fine (and no, I wouldn’t thought of beaver at all).
