So, we’ve finally had one name make its way to the top of the list for our baby girl due in 2 months…[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u]. When I shared it with my mother, however, she later said, “Did you realize her initials!!!” … I obviously didn’t and didn’t even know what she meant until I googled it. HA! Is this a reason to go back to the drawing board?! Her initials all together would be VDF. I want to think others wouldn’t think of it like she did…thankful for any replies.
I don’t get it, what is wrong with VDF?
Honestly I didn’t know what that was an abbreviation for until right now! Yikes. If you love the name, you love it and you should choose it. People will always find something to make fun of about a name. I wouldn’t worry about it honestly 
Oops! Sorry didn’t mention the meaning. Apparently the initials VD could be a problem in my mom’s mind because she knows that to mean “venereal disease” – aka STDs.
VD is definitely not a big deal… I don’t think anyone will make that connection. I googled VDF when you mentioned it and [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] Defense Force is what comes up. No one uses “venereal disease” anymore. It’s STD or STI. That’s what they call it in sex ed at school. I didn’t hear of venereal disease until I got to college and took a human sexuality course, and even then I would never have made the connection.
I agree, it’s not something I’d worry about unless it’s made enough of an impression on YOUR mind that it bothers you. But I was really confused until I saw the explanation here. I think it’s okay. [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is a beautiful combo!
VD isn’t as bad as STD since nobody calls it VD anymore except really old people, no offence to your ma! I think the worst are the ones that spell out words with negative connotations like DOG, PIG, HAG, FAT, A$$, DUM, etc.
I think it’s fine! Especially because she’s more likely to see her name abbreviated to VF or VDF in life so most people would never even see it abbreviated as VD.
I think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is lovely and you should use it :). The combined meaning of truth and peace–gorgeous!
I definitely wouldn’t worry about it. Nobody here seems to have realised what it was supposed to mean and her initials VF or VDF are more likely going to be used than just VD.

If her first and last were VD I could see the concern but I don’t think VF/VDF are an issue at all.
I got the VD connection but that is sooooooo outdated. No one uses that term anymore. Besides, as others have said, she will never go by those two initials.
