Would you avoid the initials VD? Is it something that will cause lots of teasing? We are struggling picking a name for our third girl. I really love the name [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] but with our last name starting with D I just can’t commit. So is it a deal breaker?
I am looking for a name that sounds and has the same feel as big sisters [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I seem to have an issue with every name on my list.
To be honest, my first thought for VD was V day (Like [name_f]Victory[/name_f] in WWII day) and Valentines [name_u]Day[/name_u], neither of which being horrible references. I think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] goes really well with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I think as long as her initials don’t spell a curse word like A.S.S. or something like that, you are fine. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m].
Yes, I do think of venereal disease when I see VD. However, STI is the more modern term and I’m pretty sure a lot of people these days, especially young people, aren’t aware of VD.
I feel like in the media and in school anymore they only refer to STDs or STIs, not VD. So it’s something some adults have heard of (but also something that wouldn’t have occurred to me if I was meeting, say, a [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]), but her generation will not hear about it. Anybody old enough to make the connection with what a VD is is also too old to give her trouble about it. And [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a great fit with your other girls!
I actually know a [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] who had those initials. She said she was teased about it all through high school! She’s gotta be in her 50’s now, though. I think 99% of people would say STD or STI instead of VD. If you love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], go for it.
Personally, I would say use it. If it was DVD or WC or something else that was used commonly as an acronym in everyday life, I would hesitate, but I think VD is fine, especially since people do not often use their initials in that way.
My first thoughts were of VD day or [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]'s [name_u]Day[/name_u] both of which aren’t negative however when looking through the comments I saw that you were thinking of but I wouldn’t be concerned about this as most people think of STI or STD and when she’s at school the people she attends school with will most likely think of STI or STD not VD therefore I wouldn’t worry about this. There are much worse nicknames like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] (FAT) which would cause teasing. Use [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] it’s lovely.
