Have you thought about naming your baby to get certain initials? Like possibly to form a word. Or does you child have them now? Either on purpose or on accident.
For instance, when my sister was gathering names for my oldest niece, she had originally picked out names like [name]Ashley[/name] or [name]Jessica[/name]. Then one day she just said she wanted to name her baby to get the initials P. J., and that’s exactly what she did. Another girl I went to H.S. did the same thing, but she wanted the initials A.J.
My dad’s initials are J.E.W.
My mom’s original initials were A.D.S.
On the other hand, my situation is a little different. At the moment, some of my favorite names start with the letter C. So on certain accounts I have gotten the initials…(Mainly boy name combo’s) [name]Do[/name] you think this can be a problem or am I just being worrisome.
C.A.W.
C.O.W.
C.R.O.W.
I have no problem with it, but it may have teasing potential in the future. What do you think? I would like to think kids will not go that far, but after all, they are children.
On the other hand, I know some people (mostly females) that have regular initials that may not form words until they are married, such as:
I consider them, but I don’t really try and use them. When I was looking for [name]Claire[/name] combos, I purposely nixed [name]Claire[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] because I didn’t want her to end up with the initials COW if she married someone with a surname starting with “W”. I think it’s a cool connection for my faith that all the boys’ names in my top 3 (along with two girls’ name in my top 10) have the initials “J” and “C”–as in, for [name]Jesus[/name] [name]Christ[/name]–but that wasn’t on purpose. I don’t think I’ll change them since I realize that, though!
Once, I briefly considered the initials [name]BEAR[/name] for a boy, since my LN starts with an “R”, because my mom started this animal nn thing with my siblings and I and I would like to continue it. I want to use [name]Little[/name] [name]Bear[/name]/[name]Bear[/name] for my first son. So I thought [name]Boone[/name] [name]Edward[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Richards[/name] or something. And since I love languages and reading, I considered using LEER, the Spanish word for “to read” for a girl ([name]Liliana[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Elise[/name] or something). I only considered those briefly, though. If my LN started with an “E”, though, I would be so tempted to use the initials [name]LOVE[/name]. Like [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Odette[/name] [name]Verity[/name] [name]Easton[/name] or something.
My top choice for a girl is [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Richards[/name], and IAGR stands for International Association for Gaming Regulators, which I guess has to do with gambling, which I’m not sure is the best association, but how many people would think of that?!
My initials spell JAB, and it has never come up in my life. It’s not a bad word but not exactly a positive one. I’ve met others with the same initials. [name]Even[/name] with the word not being the very best (aggressive), I kind of like that it spells a word! I’d kind of like to give my child another word set of initials, but there aren’t tons of words that end in B, and my husband has another B last name. Plus the names I like just don’t lend themselves usually to words - and I’d rather pick my favorite names and have it spell nothing, then pick the names to spell a word. Not that there’d be anything wrong with the other approach.
As for girls (or boys!) with first and middles AS, CO, etc., they can always a) not take the spouse’s name b) take it after the birth name(so ASK is ASKS, not ASS), c) move the birth name to middle (ASK becomes AKS), etc. I’ll admit having thought about not using AS, CO, etc combos because of those potential changes, but decided it’s getting way over-thinking at that point.
I like the J.C. intention. I wish my last name started with R. I love the B.E.A.R. combo, my last name does not have awesome 3 or 4 letter combos that end in W.
But for some cultures [name]Crow[/name] has a negative symbolism and most people believe crows caw…that’s why I was wondering if I should try to change it around, but I am loving the combo so far. If my child happens to be chunky, I don’t want that “fat cow” insult to pop up. “Haha, if your mom knew you were going to be a fat cow, that why she gave you the initials.” I know it’s a stretch, but I have heard kids say something similar to that.
I thought about those options too, jesba, but I know some will keep it that way, even if it does make unusual initial words. I know its a proper word for it, it’s just not coming to me right now.
Yes!
My SO’s last name is with a P, and we both love [name]Victoria[/name], so I thought "[name]How[/name] cool would it be for her initials to be V.I.P?
So I went through I names to see if I liked any and I realized that I loved [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]/[name]Vittoria[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]. SO loved it as well, and boom! We got that combo. It’s actually our second one for girls.
Yep! We considered initials. We loved the combo [name]Tia[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] at one point until we realised it spelt T.I.T :o
We then considered initials then on when we had kids.
Me - H.L.T
OH - K.I.T
[name]Anna[/name] - A.R.T
[name]Eden[/name] - E.I.T
[name]Izzy[/name] - I.C.T
Haha! My name is [name]Amanda[/name] [name]Beth[/name], so if I marry a guy with a last name that starts with C, my initials will be ABC. Or if his name starts with S, my initials will be ABS. I can’t think of anything else that would be strange…Right now, my initials are ABG. Nothing wrong with that, hah.
I was going to be [name]Erin[/name] Elyzabeth, after my aunt… until my parents realized that my initials would be E.E.W. So they switched out Elyzabeth for [name]Louise[/name]. And my friend is named [name]Jessica[/name], but goes by [name]Jess[/name]. Her initials are J.S.S., and she’s said that she had a second middle name that started with E so that her initials would be J.E.S.S.
DH and I briefly were excited about naming our daughter [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ann[/name] after [name]Saint[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ann[/name] Seton. The next morning I realized with our last name beginning with a “T” her initials would be EAT.
Well, I’m J.L.M. I’m thankful that I wasn’t J.A.M or J.I.M.
Infact, all of my family has no vowels in our initials:
Dad: P.J.M
Mum: S.L.M
Me: J.L.M
Brother #1: T.Q.M (My dad sometimes calls him T.Q.M)
Brother #2: J.L.M
Yes, me and my youngest brother share the same initials, mum or dad didn’t think about it I guess.
I forgot I went to school with a girl named Megh@n [name]Eliz[/name]@beth S. her initials spelled out M.E.S. (mess), she was very particular who could call her that. She only let her close friends and family call her that.
My initials are quite boring…C.L.W. I thought it would cool to give my child initials that made up a name. Like how [name]Jessica[/name] was J.E.S.S.,pretty awesome. Lol
But sadly, not to many nice names that end in W.
So far, the usable initial words I have are:
S.N.O.W. - I would only use this for a girl.
G.L.O.W.
C.R.O.W.
C.A.W.
F.L.O.W.
I have yet to come up with name combos I am satisfied with, especially the “O” names.
I’m L.C.M, like least common multiple, and only one person has ever pointed it out, and that’s because I had already told her. The only time it’s awkward is when the teacher writes LCM on the board and It’s sort of brought to my attention. It’s never really been a problem. I knew a girl who’s brother was [name_m]Zane[/name_m], and she was [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Audrianna[/name_f] [name_m]Naftali[/name_m] E_______, which made her [name_m]ZANE[/name_m]. I thought that was sort of cool.
There are certain initials I want to use to honour family members (that’s what my family does, they match initials to dead ancestors) so I run around like a crazy person annoying the snot out of everyone on Nameberry asking “what’s your favourite I name???” or whatever.
Girls initials I want to use, including surname M.:
I.M.M. or M.I.M. <–MIM is cute, IMM is at least not unfortunate. I’ve thought about Mim or Mimi being cute for a baby girl and then she never has to use it at school if she doesn’t want to. One of these is pretty much a definite for a firstborn daughter.
Additional girls names initials for if I had more daughters are R, L, T, B/V. Husband has nixed any chance of initials that spell VB (a local beer) and I don’t love BM and worry that it may lead to teasing but my husband says it won’t? TM is trademark but doesn’t really bother me. I’ve decided TB isn’t great but I don’t hate it that much.
Boys:
SAM is one option I ponder. I like Sam but not Samuel anyway. How awful are SM initials if it’s first and last?
H is a first name I really really want to use but being careful, obviously, to avoid HAM
I like AJ as a nickname for a boy and A is a family initial thing, so I think about combos that would give AJ. I like August/Aidan/Alan + Judah/Jethro/Jarrah.
I like the idea. My last name starts with an F, so there’s not much I can spell out with that (and I’m planning on eventually hyphenating if/when I have kids, which will just make it harder.) But I like [name_f]Effie[/name_f] and the idea of getting to it with F.E. or E.F. initials.
And I just realized a combo of mine, [name_u]Dove[/name_u] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] [name_f]Apolline[/name_f], would give the initials DEAF. Oops.
littlewren, you have awesome names in your signature.
I would like having initials that spells something. Especially other names. But all my favorite combination spell some lesser known abbreviation. Some even spell some diseases. Not bother by that.
