Lately I been having baby naming withdrawals, don’t get me wrong in the end I despised choosing [name_u]Jem[/name_u]'s name, but now that I haven’t had to think about names for 5 months I just can’t seem to stop thinking about them! So I am just, out of curiosity, seeking some opinions on some slightly unusual, short, fun names.
I think we are stuck in the “snappy, short and weird” territory when it comes to baby naming and I am completely fine with it our kids name suit us, but I recognize that most of these will not be to everyone’s taste, but keep an open mind and remember that they would be a brother to Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] bends feminine these days, but it could work on a boy. I’m not really a fan, but it’s not horrible.
I particularly like these:
[name_m]Huck[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] (But why not just [name_u]Gus[/name_u]? I definitely prefer [name_u]Gus[/name_u] with Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u]!)
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
I think I like them all pretty equally, with [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] floating closer to the top of the list (of course never [name_m]Milo[/name_m] AND [name_m]Otis[/name_m] because of the dog and cat movie from the 80s)
[name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] is wonderfully [name_m]Bowie[/name_m], but I just can’t imagine it in everyday use.
Skeeter has horrible teasing potential due to its colloquial sexual connotations. Might not be a problem for you, but it’s something to think about.
I see [name_f]Lux[/name_f] as a really feminine name. The ones I like from your list are: [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Huck[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m]. I’d pass on Skeeter, [name_m]Skip[/name_m] and [name_u]Van[/name_u].
I think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] would be adorable with your set. I know that their is an AFL player with a son named [name_f]Lux[/name_f], and i think it is quite handsome.
That being said, I also really like [name_u]Van[/name_u], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] or [name_m]Milo[/name_m] with the set.
[name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] - though I prefer some of the others as [name_u]Jem[/name_u] would be the odd boy out with no -y ending to his name
van
[name_m]Huck[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] (like pp’s suggestion of [name_u]Gus[/name_u])
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - however this seems almost a little common to go with his brothers’ names
The best with the sibset in my opinion is Bugsy, [name_u]Jem[/name_u], and [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. [name_m]Huck[/name_m] second choice. [name_f]Lux[/name_f] I think too many people would find more feminine than a boy name.
I just searched Skeeter on [name_u]Urban[/name_u] Dictionary, safe to say we will never be naming our son Skeeter!
Hmm…I get what most of you are saying about [name_f]Lux[/name_f], but as @jnoysie said I’m pretty sure there is a footballer who has a son named [name_f]Lux[/name_f], and because of that I can only see it on a boy.
Thanks for the feedback so far, I imagined that [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] would be the pick of the bunch
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] is great on either sex, because it’s so unusual people won know it’s usually feminine. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f], it’s great name with great meaning.
If you love [name_f]Lux[/name_f], have you thought of [name_u]Lex[/name_u]? Someone I work with has a son named this and I think it sounds great with your boys names!
I wouldn’t use [name_m]Milo[/name_m] in Australia unless you love the drink. I see [name_f]Lux[/name_f] as unisex AFL player [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] Embley has a son named [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. If I remember rightly he has just retired.
[name_m]Skip[/name_m]: Reminds me of the Janoskians as [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] gets called it. But I actually like it quite a bit.
[name_m]Ziggy[/name_m]: I call my brother [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] to annoy him but its a bit cutesy.
Skeeter: I like this another celebrity baby in australia Skeeter [name_u]Jo[/name_u] (a girl) I prefer it on a girl.
[name_u]Van[/name_u]: reminds me of the shoes and a van.
[name_m]Huck[/name_m]: I like this
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]: I like [name_m]Otis[/name_m] as well
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]: Reminds me of [name_m]Otto[/name_m] von Bismark mainly because we are doing ww1 in S+E at the moment
[name_u]August[/name_u]: To monthy
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]: Cereal and milk drinks i Australia sorry
I like Van, Otto, Otis, and Huck.
Lux reminds me of soap. Milo of a hot drink. Skip is ok but is kinda odd on an Aussie kid. I I adore the name August but its too long and lacks the quirkiness of your boys names. Skeeter and Ziggy are too cutsie - I know men nick named Bugsy and Gem but I can’t imagine a 40yr old Skeeter or Ziggy.
What about Luz (also means light, I think it’s considered more feminine than Lux but it feels more masculine to me)
Miro
