Interested in YOUR favorite girls names!

I am completely name obsessed so where better to express it then to my fellow name berries  Thought it would be fun if everyone could share their favorite girl names and personal stories and don’t forget to tell me what you think of my choices.

Here are my favorites…

[name]Fiona[/name]-I love how raw and vintage it is. The whole Shrek association doesn’t bother me. It was a name way before Shrek. Plus [name]Princess[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] was a pretty badass role model [name]IMO[/name]! I love that it’s just the right amount of princess and spunk  It’s also pleasant to say and I adore the nickname Fi/[name]Fifi[/name]. The only remote problem I have with using this name is, our last name starts with an F. The alliteration doesn’t bother me; in fact I think it flows very well. It just proposes more of a challenge choosing a middle name. Opinions?

[name]Ivy[/name]-I love the name [name]Ivy[/name]. It reminds me of [name]Christmas[/name] time  It’s a fantastic name that’s down to earth and not outlandishly popular. What do you think of [name]Anabel[/name] after my mom as a middle name? [name]Do[/name] you think it looks better spelled [name]Annabelle[/name]?

[name]Violet[/name]-I adore this name. It’s so sweet, feminine and uncommon. I love the nickname [name]Vi[/name].

[name]Susanna[/name]-It’s perfect because it’s feminine and traditional, yet not a name you hear everyday. Has great nickname potential with “[name]Sanna[/name]” being my favorite.

[name]Maya[/name]-Pronounced My-Uh. I love the exotic flair to this name. Also it’s not very common which I obviously like. The only problem I have with using it is the constant mispronunciation of [name]May[/name]-Uh instead of MY-Uh. I don’t want my daughter to constantly have to correct people when saying her name.

[name]Serena[/name]-This name makes me think of a beautiful, white sandy beach  It’s a nice alternative to [name]Sabrina[/name]. Uncommon and rolls off the tongue nicely.

What do you all think of my list? Let’s hear your favorites now!

My opinions on your favorites:

[name]Fiona[/name]- I love this too! I think it’d be fine with your last name. [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]? [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]?

[name]Ivy[/name]- This is on our list, too. I find it feminine but not overly so. It’s spunky and uncommon, which you seem to like. [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Annabel[/name] sounds great. [name]Annabelle[/name] looks too long next to [name]Ivy[/name].

[name]Violet[/name]- I love this name, but it isn’t as unpopular as you think… It’s in the two-hundreds, I believe. But I do think it is uncommon in the sense that there aren’t a lot of V- names and names ending in -et

[name]Susanna[/name]- I prefer [name]Susannah[/name], it just looks more complete. [name]Susannah[/name] is one of my all-time-favorites! I love the meaning, and the religious significance. My favorite nickname for it is [name]Sosie[/name], but I much prefer [name]Susanna[/name]/h on its own.

[name]Maya[/name]- I think this will always get mispronounced. I say it [name]MAY[/name]-uh. It’s actually pretty popular, it’s in the top 100.

[name]Serena[/name]- I’ve always found this quite boring.

My favorites:

[name]Susannah[/name]- Since [name]Lily[/name] is so popular, I love [name]Susannah[/name]. Since the meaning is “lily,” I get two names in one!

[name]Annika[/name]- I’ve always loved the name [name]Ann[/name], but DH finds it boring and dull. This way, I get [name]Ann[/name] but still have spunk. [name]Annika[/name] sounds so worldly and universal. [name]LOVE[/name] IT!

[name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgina[/name]- I’ve been having a hard time deciding between these two. [name]Georgina[/name] sounds so lush and feminine, whereas [name]Georgia[/name] sounds more raw and down to earth. More wearable I suppose?

[name]Magnolia[/name]- This has special significance to me and DH. We met at [name]Magnolia[/name]'s bakery in NYC. It also has a Southern vibe to it, which I love.

Middle name will be [name]Cora[/name] or some variant.

I really like the names on your list, but watch out - [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] are much more popular than you think!

My favourites:

[name]Pearl[/name] - I’m really loving one syllable names lately, and even though it sounds grandma-ish to some, I love the retro vibe!

[name]Susannah[/name] - Unlike most, I prefer [name]Susannah[/name] without any nicknames, though I know that’s nearly impossible. I know a [name]Suzie[/name] that doesn’t bring the best connotations to mind, but I think [name]Susannah[/name] is beautiful.

[name]Violet[/name] - It’s just always been a favourite of mine. I like that it’s feminine while still being a solid name.

[name]Luna[/name] - I think it’s so pretty and light, plus I’m a big [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fan

Other ones I love are [name]Verity[/name], [name]Maude[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], and [name]Isla[/name]!

I’m with @bounceparty–[name]Violet[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] are a lot more popular than you might think! I don’t think you’d have a problem with [name]Maya[/name] not being said like my-ah… it’s pretty much universally said that way. My favorites from your list are [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Maya[/name]. As for [name]Susanna[/name], I don’t love it, but I do like it. I vastly prefer [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Sosie[/name] for nn options; the others don’t really appeal to me at all.

My favorites:

[name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Arianne[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name]/[name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]

It’s long so I won’t really go into my reasoning for each name, but I love that they’re all feminine, familiar, and sweet (not too exotic or vintage, imo, either). Many of them have family connections, or literary ones, or religious ones. My love for sweet and familiar nicknames–[name]Bella[/name], [name]Ari[/name], [name]Livy[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lottie[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Kit[/name]/[name]Kitty[/name] (maybe not all are familiar, but they’re all sweetly feminine or spunky/cool, both of which I love in a nn).

Peachpie-Now that I look at it I think I actually prefer [name]Susannah[/name] over [name]Susanna[/name] also. It does look more complete
I’m kind of on the fence with [name]Cora[/name]. It’s just ok for me. I think I prefer [name]Nora[/name].

Bounceparty-I like [name]Luna[/name]. I agree with you on how pretty and light it sounds. It’s not quite my style but I do see the appeal. I obviously also like [name]Annabel[/name] from your list. It’s my mothers name and I plan on using it as a middle name.

Great list of favorite names! I like that they walk the line between familiar-feeling (i.e. not random made-up names) but unique. They are also feminine, but not overly-so, and have a certain strength to them.

My current favorite girls names:
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Anya[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]

I also really like: [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Mirabel[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Annika[/name], [name]Coraline[/name], [name]Linnea[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Seraphina[/name].

[name]Ash[/name]-From your list I really like [name]Liliana[/name]. It’s a nice alternative to the ever popular [name]Lily[/name]. I do have a soft spot for names ending in [name]Ana[/name]/[name]Anna[/name]. My favorite being [name]Julianna[/name]. I pronounce [name]Anna[/name] with a long A sound. I don’t personally like how the short A sounds. I think it takes away from the beauty of the name. I’ve always loved the nickname [name]Jewels[/name] too. At one point had this name high up on my list. It fell off the list pretty quick since hubby is highly allergic to J names lol. I also like [name]Tess[/name] but I prefer [name]Tessa[/name]. It sounds more complete and prettier in my opinion. [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Theresa[/name] with [name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name] as a nickname? That way she can choose what she prefers to be called as she gets older.

Thanks so much Hillymae  That’s exactly the vibe I was going for! I absolutely love [name]Ramona[/name] from your list. [name]IMO[/name], it’s a good mix between classy and spunky

Great list! [name]Love[/name] [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], and [name]Violet[/name]

[name]Fiona[/name] - I agree, very pleasant to say, great nicknames, shrek ref doesn’t bother me at all either

[name]Ivy[/name] - cool, spunky little name. Stands out to me in a good way, was on mmy girl list as well

Sorry, keyboard froze on me. So lastly, sweet [name]Violet[/name] - lovely lovely name. It’s getting popular if that bothers you. But it’s a darling name

Thanks Bellarina. What are some of your favorites?

[name]Eloise[/name]: I absolutely adore the book, love the sound, and [name]Louis[/name] is a family name. If only [name]Eloise[/name] wasn’t rocketing up the charts…

[name]Matilda[/name]: Another favorite book! [name]Matilda[/name]'s roots run deep, all the way back to the Middle Ages. [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name] are fabulous, spunky short forms.

[name]Jane[/name]: The ultimate literary moniker. [name]Jane[/name] is gorgeous, chic, and has a fascinating history.

[name]Sylvie[/name]: Mmm, this name. [name]Sylvie[/name] has been in my Top 3 ever since I became a name nerd, and she’s never left. [name]Sylvie[/name] is sleek, intelligent, and absolutely perfect in every way.

[name]Hazel[/name]: Another favorite rising way too fast! [name]Hazel[/name] still reads quirky and nerdy to me, both qualities that I find appealing.

[name]Iris[/name]: A vintage nature name (probably my favorite category) with rich connections to literature and mythology. Like [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Iris[/name] is a longtime contender and has never left my Top 5. My favorite combo at the moment is [name]Iris[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Jean[/name].

[name]Cordelia[/name]: Which brings us to [name]Cordelia[/name]! Shakespearean royalty, magisterial and gorgeous and perhaps a little imposing. [name]Cordelia[/name] has a plethora of great short forms; I’m partial to [name]Coco[/name].

[name]Marigold[/name]: The sunniest, spunkiest of names, especially with nn [name]Maggie[/name]. [name]Marigold[/name] is also the protagonist of one of my favorite children’s books, [name]Magic[/name] for [name]Marigold[/name].

[name]Juniper[/name]: Can you tell I love nature names? [name]Juniper[/name] is a more nouveau choice, but she has a fantastic sound and the sprightly nn options of [name]Junie[/name] and [name]June[/name]. Plus she’s the protagonist of the [name]Junie[/name] B. [name]Jones[/name] books, and I love the idea of my daughters having literary role models.

[name]Marlowe[/name]: Boy or girl? I still haven’t decided, but I adore [name]Marlowe[/name] for either gender. [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name] is my favorite playwright and has been the focus of a lot of my academic work, so this name has a great deal of personal meaning for me.

[name]Sailor[/name]: This name has gotten flak on Nameberry every time I’ve floated it, but it’s a sign of my fondness for [name]Sailor[/name] that it remains a firm favorite nonetheless. Like [name]Marlowe[/name], [name]Sailor[/name] is an name with serious personal significance, and can also work as a smoosh of the family name [name]Tailor[/name] with the first letter of my mother’s and sister’s names.

[name]Thea[/name]: I love [name]Thea[/name]. The sound, the meaning; she’s a serious gem. The only thing that’s kept her hovering at #11 on my list is her similarity to my own name.

[name]Alice[/name]: I wish [name]Alice[/name] was usable for me. She’s literary, historical, and like [name]Marlowe[/name] has been very meaningful to me during my academic career. Unfortunately with my last name [name]Alice[/name] sounds exactly like [name]Alexander[/name]. Sigh.

From your list I love [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Serena[/name]. But [name]Maya[/name], not very popular?! I know five girls under fourteen with this name!

[name]Love[/name] so many of the names listed…but wouldn’t use a lot of them. I have such a hard time finding girls names that I like. My future baby boys are named already…if my fiance and I have girls…we have no idea. My current favourites are:

[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Evie[/name]
[name]Liza[/name]
[name]India[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Juno[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Sybil[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]

As you can see…all over the place

I like [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Maya[/name] from your list. I like the [name]Annabel[/name] spelling best:) love [name]Annabel[/name] as a middle!!

I generally like long, somewhat traditional names with cute nicknames.

[name]Elisabeth[/name]- will be my first daughters name for sure. Honors both me and my mother, as is tradition. Nickname will be [name]Elise[/name], though I like [name]Lissie[/name] as well.

[name]Cassandra[/name]- nickname [name]Cassie[/name]. No explanation for why I love this name so much! But it’s a plus that it honors someone important to me!

[name]Charlotte[/name]- this one is new to the list, I love how classic it is!

[name]Rosalie[/name]- so pretty! [name]Love[/name] it!

Mackinley- the odd one out. I know it’s trendy and it’s a mountain and a president and [name]Mac[/name] names are overused… I just love it! However, it probably won’t get used.

[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name]- honors 3 generations all in one
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]- honors 2 people not family

I love all of your names! I have a lot of them on my list too.

My favorites:
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Lilly[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Milena[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]

My favourites are:

[name]Avia[/name]: I kinda like [name]Ava[/name]/[name]Avalyn[/name]/[name]Avalon[/name] but then I heard [name]Avia[/name]! It’s like a not nearly popular variation of [name]Ava[/name] and I love it!

[name]Grace[/name]: Short, simple, sweet, girly… [name]Grace[/name] just ticks all the boxes for me! Although [name]Grace[/name] annoys me when used as a middle name. I think [name]Grace[/name] is just too beautiful.

[name]Annabel[/name]: I’ve been kind of stumbling over how to spell this. I’ve loved the name for ages now and I love all the nn choices, [name]Anna[/name], [name]Annie[/name] & [name]Belle[/name] I just have never known how I wanted it spelt. I liked [name]Annabelle[/name] for quite some time because I liked the nn [name]Belle[/name] better than it beng spelt [name]Bel[/name] or [name]Bell[/name]. But I’ve always liked shorter names so I don’t know.

[name]Ira[/name]: Yes, I know, I know. IT’S A BOYS NAME. But I love it as a girl’s name! I think the -a to me makes it sound more feminine and it kinda sounds

Your names and the ones I like are so very close! I like your style! I really like [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] and there is nothing wrong with [name]Susana[/name], [name]Serena[/name] and [name]Maya[/name].

My favorites right now are

[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Ziva[/name]
[name]Elora[/name]

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Love[/name] your names, especially [name]Magnolia[/name]…such a sweet and touching meaning between you and your husband.

My current favorites are:
[name]Molly[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Libby[/name] [name]Love[/name]:
[name]Cara[/name] Fair

I’m also in love with
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Saba[/name]
[name]Dagny[/name]
[name]Nina[/name]
[name]Mischa[/name]

Names I adore but can’t use because they are too close to family/friends names:
[name]Calandra[/name] ([name]Callie[/name])
[name]Mara[/name]
[name]Marni[/name]

[name]Fiona[/name]-I love this name.

[name]Ivy[/name] - I like this one. have you thought of [name]Annabella[/name] instead of [name]Annabelle[/name]. I think it will sound better with [name]Ivy[/name].

[name]Violet[/name] - I like this one but perosnally I think [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Violet[/name] would sound cute.

[name]Susanna[/name] -I like this one but personally to me it’s better as a Middle name.

[name]Maya[/name]-Pronounced My-Uh. - To me this is said [name]May[/name]-A. I know a [name]Myah[/name] (My-uh).

[name]Serena[/name] - I’m not a fan of this one personally.

My fave names:-

[name]Angharad[/name] (Ang-har-ad)
MacKynzie
[name]Cerys[/name] (Cer-Iss)
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Savannah[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Lyndsey[/name]
