I watched the movie Restless recently, and I couldn’t help but take notice of some of the unusual choices they made for some of the characters’ names!
The film is set in the contemporary U.S. and the characters are high school aged. The male lead is named [name_m]Enoch[/name_m]! Unexpected, but it worked well on a modern teenager. The female lead is [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. A bit more normal, but given the age of the character, her parents’ naming taste would have had to have been a little bit ahead of their time, since [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] didn’t reach the U.S. top 1000 until 1999.
The last name that I noticed was more of a throwaway mention - a character who bullies the main character is named [name_m]Alger[/name_m] Koufax. The movie never gave him a name other than [name_m]Alger[/name_m], but my brain immediately went to [name_m]Algernon[/name_m] nicknamed [name_m]Alger[/name_m]. I know it wouldn’t be everyone’s taste, but I like it.
