Since I teach younger children, I thought it would be fun to make a list of some of the names that have caught my attention, for a variety of reasons, over the past few years.
Honestly, those names seem pretty much par for the course these days! I don’t see any that look overly unique, except perhaps [name]Maeve[/name] (which is getting trendier,) and definitely [name]Lorna[/name]. [name]Lorna[/name] is very pretty and a breath of fresh air next to the likes of Lanceton and [name]Brylee[/name].
I like [name]Oskar[/name] and [name]Tiernan[/name]. [name]Lorna[/name]'s not bad. The rest are not my style. I don’t understand the Y-lee names at alll. I wonder why people don’t use a wider variety of sounds when making up names. If you’re going to make up a name to be “unique”, I’d assume you’d use sounds that weren’t so common/trendy. Eh, to each their own, I guess.
The list that was called “the ugly” are very normal where I live in [name]California[/name]. I guess it’s just preference but I liked those names, so much that I used one on one of my children.
I’m just looking at my daughters preschool class photo and I’m happy to say that most are quite classic names. [name]Thomas[/name] (x2), [name]Daniel[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Joshua[/name] (x2), [name]Nate[/name] (x2), [name]Liam[/name], [name]Lachlan[/name], [name]Martin[/name], [name]Toby[/name]. Girls are [name]Mia[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Molly[/name]
Some of the more unusual ones:
Boys - [name]Levi[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name]
Girls - [name]Jasmin[/name], [name]Summer[/name], Suelia, [name]Abrielle[/name].
But even those names are not on the wacky side in my opinion. [name]Just[/name] not that common.
At my children’s preschool there is a [name]Jezabel[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], coast(male), [name]Solene[/name] and [name]Vera[/name]. I like them all. Although coast has a sister names C0untry.
Most of those names are very trendy in my area too, except for [name]Lisa[/name] which is very 60’s & 70’s in my area.
Some of the pre-school names here which are becoming popular are: [name]Jayden[/name], [name]Braydon[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Will[/name], [name]Jake[/name], [name]Gabe[/name], [name]Declan[/name], [name]Frankie[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Asher[/name], and [name]Parker[/name] for boys. Girls that are popular for that age are: [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Madelyn[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Francine[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], and [name]Scarlett[/name]. I really like them all!
My daughter’s class has some trendy and some classic/traditional. Many of them do use nn’s too.
Girls who sound trendy to me are [name]Brylee[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Siri[/name], [name]Emme[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Cali[/name], [name]Riley[/name], & [name]Molly[/name]. Traditional/Popular sounds are [name]Sophia[/name] ([name]Sophie[/name]), [name]Allison[/name], ([name]Allie[/name]) [name]Madaline[/name] ([name]Maddie[/name]), [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Libby[/name]) [name]Katherine[/name] ([name]Katie[/name]), & my [name]Evelyne[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]). It seems like the y or ie sound is very popular with the trendy and nn’s.
Boys in her class that sound trendy to me are: [name]Briggs[/name], [name]Hudson[/name], [name]Peyton[/name], [name]Mason[/name] & [name]Aiden[/name]. Boys traditional are: [name]Michael[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Joshua[/name], and [name]Thomas[/name].
