I just had to tell you about three sets of twins I saw recently in my local [name]BAs[/name]…
[name]Apollo[/name] Amour and [name]Blaze[/name] Wonder (boys)
[name]Alex[/name] and [name]Alexis[/name] (boy and girl)
[name]Rafael[/name] and [name]Frankey[/name] (boys)
I thought each provided joy worth spreading the rest of the name community, although each for different reasons…
Honestly? [name]Apollo[/name] & [name]Rafael[/name] make me joyous but none of the others do. And [name]Blaze[/name] & [name]Alexis[/name] bother me. If I had twins and named one [name]Apollo[/name], I’d name the other [name]Blaise[/name] (as in [name]Pascal[/name] & [name]St[/name]. [name]Blaise[/name]) And [name]Rafael[/name] & [name]Francis[/name], nn [name]Rafe[/name] & [name]Frank[/name] (ooh, I’ve been looking for a middle name for [name]Rafael[/name] for myself! ) would have been divine. Give [name]Alex[/name] half a name and [name]Alexis[/name] one that sounds like a luxury vehicle just doesn’t strike me as a very nice thing to do, to either of them. [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Portia[/name] would be my way of naming in their pattern. [name]Portia[/name] still sounds like a car but has Shakesperian roots, much nicer than [name]Alexis[/name] is the long run and very not sound matchy with [name]Alexander[/name]. [name]Apollo[/name] & [name]Blaze[/name]'s middles don’t even bother me, they’re middles, and if you’re going to use something bizarre, that’s where it belongs I say. These are okay but they could have been so much better!
Ha ha, I guess I meant “joy” not from individual names, but from how the names work (or don’t work) together. They did make me chuckle when I saw them…but I wouldn’t want them for my twins either!
I really don’t like [name]Alex[/name] and [name]Alexis[/name]. I’m not sure what parents would find appealing in that combination.
My two year old niece has identical twin girls in her daycare class and their names are [name]Megan[/name] and [name]Meggy[/name]. No offense to anyone, but that is one of the worst twin name set I’ve ever heard…
88 is all I could bring myself to use for boys on that list and there’s not a single girl pair I would even want to completely entertain. It makes me think the masses are lacking in imagination. Which doesn’t surprise me considering how the schools try to beat it out of us anymore. Makes me wanna cry, it does.
A lot of people like matchy, similar names for twins. Two versions of the same nickname really doesn’t surprise me anymore.
[name]Meggy[/name] and [name]Megan[/name]? So they give one child a full name and the other a diminutive of her sister’s? What’s she going to think about her identity as a shadow of her sister? Poor [name]Meggy[/name]. Maybe she can go by [name]Margaret[/name] as a nickname, because [name]Megan[/name] comes from [name]Margaret[/name]. I know identical twins [name]Matt[/name] and [name]Mark[/name], and nearly identical sisters [name]Megan[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name]. My twins are [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name], but [name]Elizabeth[/name] goes by [name]Lizzie[/name], so the names aren’t so close.
Thanks for that link [name]Lola[/name]. I have a severe allergy to matching twin names, and I didn’t realize how common they are still. [name]Oy[/name]…
Realpraise, I completely agree with you. It’s almost like the parents didn’t deem their twins worthy of two separate identities and made them share one instead. I don’t want to come off too strong here, I’m sure no parent would intentionally do that, but I can’t help but get that impression. And even on a practical level, what happens if someone calls the name [name]Meg[/name]? Or if someone who only knows [name]Megan[/name] starts calling her [name]Meggy[/name]?
Props to you both for giving your twins nice and distinctive names!!
I like matching twins, to an extent.
For instance, I have [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Isla[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Linnea[/name] and [name]Liora[/name] all on my small list of possible twin names. But, I don’t like rhyming names: [name]Misty[/name] and [name]Kristy[/name] (I know twins named this). Or versions of the same name: [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Michelle[/name].
oh, and [name]Megan[/name] and [name]Meggy[/name] is just sad.
i hate matching twin-sets. My aunt worked at a school in [name]Georgia[/name] and there were twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello. And at the school my uncle taught at there were twins named [name]Velvet[/name] and Velveeta. Unbelievable.
If I ever had twin girls I would name them Lulette and Pomeline and call them [name]Lula[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name]. I so hope that happens some day!
When we lived in [name]Colorado[/name] Springs for two years, my daughter had a gym teacher who was originally from South [name]Carolina[/name]. When she was a little girl, she went to school with a girl named [name]Pam[/name]. [name]Pam[/name] had a little sister. Now, I know they weren’t twins, but this is a really disgusting combination of names. [name]Don[/name]'t worry, [name]Pam[/name] (one of the writers of our favorite books), I do like your name a lot but just wait until you hear this: [name]Pam[/name]‘s little sister was [name]Lil[/name]’ [name]Pam[/name]! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
My twins names are [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], but we call them [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Bella[/name].
[name]Megan[/name] and [name]Meggy[/name] makes me extremely sad. These parents could not think of another name for their second daughter. Think of how great of parents they will be probably…
Best twin set I’ve heard: [name]Anika[/name] and [name]Lily[/name].
One that I don’t like as much: [name]Andie[/name] and [name]Anna[/name]. One is a full name that seems to me very sophisticated, and the other a little diminutive and not able to grow up. I like [name]Andie[/name] as a diminuitive of [name]Andrea[/name], though.
I love [name]Anika[/name] and [name]Lily[/name]
Interesting twin sets I know
Mather and [name]Levi[/name]
[name]Baize[/name] and [name]Penn[/name]
[name]Alida[/name] and [name]Helen[/name]
[name]Cara[/name] and [name]Elaine[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name]
Oh, good [name]Lord[/name], they’re all terrible! Why do people think twins must have super matchy names? [name]Faith[/name] and [name]Hope[/name]? [name]London[/name] and [name]Paris[/name]? Serenity and Trinity? Autumn and Summer? Eww. It’s okay to have a subtle naming theme, but the key word here is subtle! Otherwise, I think it’s tacky. The only twin set I like on the girls list is Elizabeth and Katherine.
#24 - [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] #33 - [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name] (how cute would [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Kitty[/name] be?!)
#27 - [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] #28 - [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]William[/name] (though [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Billy[/name] would be far too matchy as nicknames, hmm…)
#21 - [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Alex[/name] and [name]Nick[/name]/[name]Nico[/name]) #26 - [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Benji[/name] and [name]Sammy[/name] would be adorable as boys)
