Interesting way to get nicknames

Has anyone ever considered using the name’s MEANING as a nickname? For example…
[name]Margaret[/name], known as [name]Pearl[/name]
Kestrel, known as [name]Birdie[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name], known as [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Rose[/name], known as [name]Flora[/name] (because it means “flower”)
[name]Ianthe[/name], known as [name]Violet[/name]

It seemed to make sense to me, but I wanted to know what other people thought. [name]Do[/name] you like it? Would you use it? Are there any more that you can think of?

Thanks! (:

I’m not sure about meanigs for nicknames, I think its good if you are honouring someone who has a name you like, but you like the sound of the meanong better, but if you really love a name and the meaning in pretty far off in sound, it seems like it would be sort of wasting the name.

Anyway, I always thought [name]Marisol[/name] nn [name]Sunny[/name] would be pretty cool, [name]Marisol[/name] meaning ‘sun and sea’

Others could be,
[name]Isadora[/name] nn [name]Isis[/name]
[name]Aveline[/name] nn [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] nn [name]True[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] nn [name]Goldie[/name]
[name]Danica[/name] nn [name]Star[/name]

I think that’s a great idea and would work great with lots of names. The list you gave is great. There are lots of other names that it wouldn’t work with, though.

My name means “island of the linden tree”… maybe I could start going by [name]Isla[/name]!

The only name where I know this is actually a nn process is [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Daisy[/name] (because [name]Marguerite[/name] is French for [name]Daisy[/name])

[name]Just[/name] a note on [name]Marisol[/name]. I see it suggested often meaning “sea and sun”. According to behindthename.com it’s a combination of [name]Maria[/name] and [name]Sol[/name]. But it does sound like “mar y sol” which means sea and sun.
