Interview with a Berry đŸ«

So I was working around with my shortlist when I thought “it’d be pretty cool to have a thread of our top names and our stories behind our most favored combos.”

Think of it like the how I named my baby series, but the questions would be for us:

  1. What’s the story behind your top contenders? What would you like to debut about your combo(s) and what do you picture every time you read or say them?

  2. What would you like their hypothetical siblings to be for each name?

It can be ones you would use realistically or just guilty pleasures, anything that makes your heart sing you are free to share in this topic!

I was thinking of making a post like this in the boys forum, but we’ll see how this goes

I can’t wait to read all of your stories! :revolving_hearts:

These are my answers

Summary

annabella phoebe: my top name that i would use in a heartbeat! i have always loved the sound and meaning of the name annabella, it used to be a runner up to my long time favourite viviana, but the name was tarnished for me because of a bad association i have with someone in real life, which is a shame because i still really like it. for the longest time, I didn’t know what she should be paired up with, until i found phoebe and i fell in love all over again. with her meaning being dear to me, the meaning of bright light honors my mother (who is a Luc!a) and the symbolism of the moon is personal to me because i absolutely love the moon. through my eyes, i have always pictured an elegant ballerina with a name like this, and ballerinas have always been a symbol of strength to me. a symbol of strength and elegance perfectly balanced, the discipline it takes to be a ballerina inspires me and thus inspired this name. this is the ultimate ballerina name imo. her name means to me, “graceful beauty who is bright like the moon.”

caroline victoria: to my surprise, i found myself so drawn to the name caroline. it’s tailored, feminine, very classic, and the true essence of a little black dress name. i thought she was so perfect. i believe that this is a moniker for a strong little lady that she can grow into, a name she can define herself which i love. her middle name is also a subtle honor as victoria is the name of the area i grew up in. I’ve thought about using victoria as a first, but i love it a lot more as a middle name to avoid the inevitable nickname vicky. i imagine a sweet girl who loves to spend her days at the library, enjoying summer trips to the countryside, and is obsessed with the study of stars. she is family oriented and loves her siblings more than anything. she can speak up for herself and is always true and authentic to herself. her name means to me, “she who is free, feminine, and victorious.”

marigold aurora: she’s a relatively new love for me. I recently rediscovered marigold, whom i loved very dearly many years ago. it fell off my list for reasons i can’t remember, but when i found her again, the admiration was still present and i adopted her back onto my list. I’ve always been drawn to the name aurora, but it sounds like a mouthful when i say it. like victoria, i think aurora would work better as a middle name to avoid the nickname rory. when i first read her name out loud, i immediately fell in love with it. I picture a golden sunrise every time I say it in full, the image of a fiery chariot swept across the sky as the warm glow of dawn paints the celestial canvas. it’s very colorful and i think it’s perfect, it beautifully captures the serene sense of beauty in nature. i also really love this flower name, it stands out but it’s not too out there, and its somewhat gothic romantic style (which i could say is also the style of my other top names). her name means to me, “golden blossom of dawn.”

estelle sapphira: a very recent addition to my list, but she’s just as darling as my other top favorites and i could potentially see myself using this one. i wanted to use sapphira (prn. saff-EYE-ra) because the jewel is so precious to me but nothing sounded right as a middle name for it. I also really love estelle and her meaning, so i thought to combine the two to make something so ethereal and otherworldly it just takes my breath away. her name literally means “star sapphire” and if you’ve ever seen a star sapphire, you’ll know just how breathtaking they are and if you don’t know what they are, i highly recommended looking them up on google images. I find such an exquisite gem to be named after would be an honor.

anna, coco, and goldie would be my intuitive nicknames for my girls.

well i don’t really have any special combos, nor do i really have a lot of names that have stories behind them. (i just usually go with names i like, not necessarily ones that mean smth to me) buttt i do have a few that are from some of my fav tv shows / movies and one that kinda has a story?

saylor ~ heard a father call his daughter’s name in a restaurant i was at, and her name was saylor. loved the name ever since.

winifred ~ or winny for short. she’s from the movie hocus pocus, the halloween movie i’ve watched every halloween / october ever since i could remember.

simona ~ from a series i recently watched called the rain (the main characters name is actually simone but in their danish accent, it sounds like simona lol.) but i just really liked the character and the name!

octavia, bellamy & gaia ~ absolutely adore these names and would definitely use all of them, they’re all from my fav tv show of all time the 100 i 1000% recommend it, def an underrated show. but i just love the story line, the actors, and there’s a lot of good names in it! as well as clarke (g), but idk if i would use her!
and possibly a hypothetical sibling for gaia would be liesel! or for bellamy, bellamy & caspian or bellamy & cedric!

prudence ~ she’s from probably my second fav show of all time which is charmed, an older show, but fantastic story line, questionable special effects sometimes, and great actors. but i loved prue’s character.

ada, sybil, & esmeralda ~ all these names are from another fav show of mine called the worst witch i watched this show in like my early teen years and it’s such a cute story line and again great names in the show!

hope these still count for watch you’re asking for!!

Agnes: I have always been aware of this name, and liked it, but when I read it in David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, I fell in love. I think of the sweet, loving, loyal Agnes Wickfield from the above mentioned novel, and well as the spunky, bookish, stubborn Aggie Morton from my childhood favourite murder mysteries! She has such historical weight to her, and is unique, vintage, perfectly clunky cute, and literary, with the adorable nickname Aggie. I love the meaning “lamb” as it is darling, and has a wonderful connection to choral music that reminds me of my father. I love how she works so well in different languages too! :fallen_leaf: :violin: :scroll:

Octavia: This is my middle name, and I love it so much. It was chosen with special meaning by my parents because I was the eighth born grandchild, and ever since then eight has been my lucky number, appearing again and again through many strange coincidences. I like that she also has a musical connection through Octaves, and that she sounds so strong, literary, and stubborn. Octavia also has an honour to my best friend, because of a story we wrote together when we were little about our friendship, and my character was named Octavia. I just think that tie is so sweet! :crossed_swords: :sunflower: :old_key:

Sara: A very important honour name for my best friend’s mom, one of the most important woman and role model in my life. It has so many lovely connections besides that, it rhymes with my mom’s name, is the name of a song by my favourite band, and also it the name of one of my favourite literary character’s Sara Crewe from the Little Princess. She’s sleek, classic, elegant, and the meaning “princess” is adorable. :fountain_pen: :crown: :notes:

I like Agnes, Octavia, and Flavia, and Sara, Catherine, and Rose

Oh fun! [name_f]My[/name_f] current top combos are [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] CoppĂ©lia [name_f]Faith[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (there are other names I really love but don’t feel quite so good about as combos).
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] :ribbon:
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] is one of my oldest favourites; she just has such elegance to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite thing about my own name is that so many wonderful strong women have worn it and the same is true of [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (Katharine Hepburn, [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] of [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] of [name_m]Aragon[/name_m], there are literally so many!). [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] honours [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] as well as a beloved [name_m]Louis[/name_m] in my life, and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is a nod to mine and my mother’s love of flowers (also a hint to my [name_u]French[/name_u] roots). I really like the flow of this combo and the nickname [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]!
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] Coppélia [name_f]Faith[/name_f] :ballet_shoes:
I love the sweet ‘little black dress’ simplicity of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as well as the fact she honours [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Pavlova, the legendary dancer. CoppĂ©lia, apart from being a stunning princess name, is the fist ballet I ever saw so holds a special space in my heart, & I love the gentle softness of [name_f]Faith[/name_f] as well as the concept itself.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] :cherries:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is another gentle vintage long term love (also with a ballet connection!); [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is a cheeky hint to my own name & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is a nod to my beloved sister (not her name but it is special to her). I’m also a sucker for alliteration so the double m of [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] makes my heart happy :joy:

The only girl name I’m somewhat certain of at the moment is some variation of Sylvie/Sylva/Sylvan in combination with [name_u]Rose[/name_u]. For the time being that looks like SylvieRose as a double barrel. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] because the woods are my happy place. I grew up on a farm surrounded by woods. There’s nothing more calming or grounding for me than staring into the trees or walking through them. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband also loves trees and we’ve been known to go on vacation to the ocean and spend the majority of our time walking through a preserve of trees. lol [name_u]Rose[/name_u] because it’s been on my list since I was 5. I had 27 baby dolls, all of whom had first and middle names, and 3 of them had [name_u]Rose[/name_u] in there somehow (Megan [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_u]Rose[/name_u], Rosie). It also happens to be my husband’s great grandmother’s name. I can’t imagine not using it if we have another daughter. We should have used it before, but I was too concerned about popularity. Now I just can’t decide if I want to actually put SylvieRose on the birth certificate or name her something like [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and nickname her SylvieRose. SylvieRose [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is making me swoon at the moment so I guess we’ll just have to see.

I want to respond to this but husband & I aren’t sharing our top names until we have children, even on forums, but I’ll share some near the top of my list.

Some will already know this, but I have a very ethereal/unusual bent to my taste in names while my husband is much more about solid historical names (although he doesn’t like anything super common either).

Without further adieu:

Nairne–I’ve been crushing on this name for a while now but haven’t found the swoon middle to pair with it yet but I’m officially putting it in my top 10  it’s different, snappy and just has a lovely meaning.

[name_f]Merewen[/name_f] [name_f]Cherith[/name_f] --this name is so lovely and “cottagecore” while still being super usable in the real world. [name_f]Cherith[/name_f], then, grounds and warms up the pairing and I imagine her running through lavender fields in the summer in a white eyelet dress <3.

[name_f]Allaire[/name_f] --unexpected, light and airy and pairs well with a lot of different things (which is why I don’t have a specific one listed here). It has a tinge of sophistication to it as well which is a hard balance to strike with fun/playful names.

[name_f]Idalia[/name_f] [name_f]Annelore[/name_f] – so stunning and warm and sunny with a fantasy-tinge to its feel. It makes me sigh longingly every time I think about it.

So there’s those three. Probably won’t get to use any of them (we have 1 girl name each that would be our first 2 so we’ll see if we have 3 girls!) but they’re so lovely I wish I could have 6 girls and 6 boys but my body (and budget) says a resounding NO lol

we do not yet have any children

I love the name [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (Bibi / Beatie)
I love its sound, meaning & it’s melodious romantic, creamy sound full of vowels

Unfortunately it’s a hypothetical option because I am a Muslim

[name_f]Non[/name_f] hypothetical favourites

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]: This one has Islamic signifance because [name_f]Amal[/name_f] is a Muslim word name meaning Good Deeds. If it didn’t have [name_f]Amal[/name_f] as its root word this name wouldn’t even be an option

[name_f]Esme[/name_f]: Because of its connections to [name_f]Asma[/name_f], a Muslim name meaning Names :joy: As in if Nameberry was an Arabic website it would be called Asmabiri.com. Also it’s connected to Azmi which means Determination

[name_f]Amara[/name_f], [name_f]Alaia[/name_f] & [name_f]Adira[/name_f]
Almost any A-Sandwich Name works in [name_m]Islam[/name_m], and these ones all have virtuous meanings, so they’re perfect

[name_f]Zara[/name_f]: Pure. In [name_m]Islam[/name_m] there is a woman called [name_f]Fatima[/name_f], one of the 4 Best Women Who [name_m]Will[/name_m]
[name_m]Ever[/name_m] [name_f]Live[/name_f]. She was called [name_f]Fatima[/name_f] Al-Zahra, [name_f]Fatima[/name_f] The Pure

[name_f]Noor[/name_f]: [name_m]Light[/name_m] (If I had a kid called [name_f]Zara[/name_f] I’d give them the middle name [name_f]Noor[/name_f], giving the meaning Pure Light)

[name_f]Imaan[/name_f]: [name_f]Faith[/name_f]. This one is most likely a middle name option, as in [name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Imaan[/name_f] (Strong Faith)
