I’m looking for a middle name to honor my grandmother, who is named Eara [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. Eara is pronounced “era,” and she goes by [name_f]Luci[/name_f], pronounced the same as [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I combined her first and middle names to come up with Luciera, pronounced loo-see-air-ah. I haven’t been able to find it on any name sites, this one included, but I think I’m in love with it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it, or is it weird? Can you think of any ways to make fun of it, or other reasons I shouldn’t use it?
One concern that I have is that when I googled Luciera, it came up as a Spanish word with multiple translations. I don’t speak Spanish, but I live in an area with a lot of bilingual Spanish speakers. If the translation is very obvious, common, or undesirable, I’ll have to rethink using it. If you are a fluent/native Spanish speaker, please give me your honest input on how you interpret the meaning and if it seems weird to use as a middle name from a Spanish speaker’s perspective.
If you are worried about the Spanish stuff, it seems to be relating to the spanish word Lucir, which there’s a lot of meanings for, and can mean “to shine”, “to wear”, or the less common but still existant, “to show off”. I’m not a spanish speaker and never took Spanish in high school, so take what I said with a grain of salt because that’s just from research. Although it /is/ a middle name instead of a last name, I’d still tread carefully to avoid another “[name_f]Zona[/name_f]” problem.
If you decide to change, there are very similar names or different ways to achieve what you’re looking for.
Similar Sounding Names:
[name_f]Luciana[/name_f]
Lucija (Loo-see-ya)
[name_f]Lucero[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucina[/name_f]
Luciere (There’s apparently people with this as a last name as well as a french wine, so this seems like the safest option that’s closest to the sound you want)
