The title pretty much says it all. I’ve loved [name]Lola[/name] off and on for years now, but lately I love it. The problem is that [name]Lola[/name] feels quite cutesy to me, and I just couldn’t use just [name]Lola[/name]. I’ve looked at most of the ways to get to [name]Lola[/name]–[name]Eloise[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], [name]Elora[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Willow[/name]/[name]Harlow[/name]/[name]Marlowe[/name], [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Lauren[/name]/[name]Laurel[/name]/[name]Laura[/name], [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Louise[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Nicolette[/name]/[name]Colette[/name], [name]Lois[/name], [name]Delores[/name], [name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name], [name]Gloria[/name], [name]Lorraine[/name], [name]Liora[/name]/[name]Eliora[/name], etc., etc., and none of them appeal to me enough that I would actually consider using any of them. [name]Lorelei[/name] is probably the highest contender, but, at this point, I don’t love any of them.
Am I missing something? I can’t think of another way to get to [name]Lola[/name] unless its really contrived (I’ve heard of [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] as ways to get to [name]Lola[/name], but it just doesn’t make sense to me). I’m open to more inventive ways to get to [name]Lola[/name], but I don’t want something TOO out-there. Any ideas, Berries?
On a separate note, thoughts on [name]Aurelia[/name]/Aurélie and [name]Posey[/name]? Two other names I can’t get out of my head atm.
Thanks for your replies, ladies! Sadly, I can’t imagine using any of those, either. [name]Viola[/name] is probably the closest, but I can’t imagine giving up my beloved [name]Violet[/name]. :*(
I’ve been kind of thinking about [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], and [name]Willow[/name]. [name]Lorelei[/name] feels too grown up and tied to [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls, [name]Penelope[/name] I can’t see me using (for some reason it doesn’t feel very feminine to me), and [name]Willow[/name] feels pretty tied to the Palins/overdone/overrated–[name]Willow[/name] just doesn’t feel special to me anymore because it seems like everyone’s considering it/using it. I’ve been leaning toward [name]Lorelei[/name] if I used any of them (especially since I could use [name]Lila[/name] as a nn, too), but I can’t get past the fact that it has this very grown up/sort of harsh/flashy/celebrity feel to it.
Maybe you could do a first name that starts with Lo- and a middle name that starts with -La? That would be a reasonable way to get to [name]Lola[/name]. Then you’re not stretching too far.
I had thought about that! But what name starts with Lo- besides [name]Lolita[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] (and [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Lois[/name], of course)? And then I thought that if it started with Lo- I wouldn’t really the La- MN, because I could just use the Lo- name to get [name]Lola[/name]. I’m open to Lo- names, though, if any one can think of any!
[name]How[/name] about [name]Lorin[/name], [name]Logan[/name], [name]Lorraine[/name], Lochlyn, [name]London[/name], [name]Lorie[/name], [name]Lois[/name], Lorah. There’s a bunch of different styles there, maybe one will catch your eye
Hmm. I don’t know, a lot of them are quite masculine or old-fashioned/dated for me. I have thought about [name]London[/name], but I don’t know, I can’t really see [name]London[/name] as a sister to [name]Isabelle[/name] or [name]Violet[/name], for some reason.
I was searching on another site, though, and I came across Lovejoy/Loveday/Lovella… I actually kind of like those, but I’m not sure how usable they are.
My favorite way to get [name]Lola[/name] is [name]Lourdes[/name] but that might be a little too celebrity for you. I love the Catholic influence of it which allows me to look past the celebrity factor but you might not have that. Also too [name]Steve[/name] [name]Nash[/name], the NBA player, has two daughters [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] which might be something to consider since [name]Isabelle[/name] is your top name, but honestly his career is practically over at his age so it should not be an issue unless they grow up to be supermodels or something like that
[name]Aurelia[/name] lacks something for me personally It is very nice it just does not ahve that wow factor for me.
[name]Posey[/name] I love! It is so sweet and cute! The only issue I have with it is the same I have with [name]Clover[/name] for my own list, I just don’t know how well it will age. I really love them though. Maybe [name]Josephine[/name] NN [name]Posey[/name]?
Thanks for the suggestion! But [name]Tallulah[/name] just wouldn’t work. It’s a NN I use for my little sister ([name]Tallulah[/name], not [name]Lula[/name]/[name]Lola[/name]), and I actually can’t stand [name]Lula[/name], much as I love [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Leila[/name]…
Have you considered [name]Winslow[/name]? I know technically it’s a boys name but I’ve always felt it was very feminine and a similar but more unique choice than [name]Willow[/name].
Some others I think might work:
[name]Finola[/name]
[name]Galloway[/name]- (I met a little girl named this the other day and I fell in love…)
Holloway
[name]Iola[/name]/[name]Iolana[/name]/[name]Iolani[/name]
Phliomena
[name]Saloma[/name]
Mmm. Thanks for the suggestion, but [name]Shiloh[/name] wouldn’t work for me! I read a series of books several years ago, and the lead male character was named [name]Shiloh[/name]. Despite the [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] association, I can’t for the life of me see [name]Shiloh[/name] on a girl.
I’m officially closing this thread. I’m not as in love with [name]Lola[/name] now as I was when I created this thread, and I truly don’t think there’s a [name]Lola[/name] name out there that I’ll actually ever love. [name]Lorelei[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are probably the closest I’ll ever get. Maybe one day just [name]Lola[/name] will grow on me. People keep telling me it’s fine on its own, but I can’t really see the cutesy [name]Lola[/name] as a sister to [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], or [name]Rachel[/name]. I guess we’ll see.
Thanks for all the time you all put into this, though. You were really great, and I appreciate all your effort.
