Io?

I came across this name on NB a while ago and it’s really grown on me. Pronounced “EE-yo” or “EYE-o” (I prefer the latter), it’s from Greek mythology and is also the name of one of the moons of [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m]. I love how short and punchy it is, and must admit I’m a bit of a sucker for both mythology names and ends-in-o names for girls.

So, WDYT? Is its extreme shortness cool, or just silly? Is it usable? I love it as a first name but it would be too matchy with a sister called [name_f]Juno[/name_f], so I would probably use it as a middle for something much more conservative (I don’t like using two “out there” names in a combo)… I’m thinking maybe [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_f]Cicely[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f] or [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_f]Io[/name_f] - thoughts?

It sounds better as a boy name to me. I prefer [name_f]Iola[/name_f] pronounced eye-oh-la, it means “[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].”

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f]

I know a little girl named [name_f]Iona[/name_f] who goes almost exclusively by [name_f]Io[/name_f] (pronounced eye-oh). I think it’s adorable and I especially like the full name [name_f]Iona[/name_f].

I think it’s a great middle! Like you said it’s got a punchy quality. My favorite from your list is [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f]!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Also love [name_f]Iona[/name_f]…

What about [name_f]Io[/name_f] [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f] [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Io[/name_f] [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]?

PS [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is great too i.e. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]

I do like [name_f]Iona[/name_f] too but really my favourite is just [name_f]Io[/name_f].

Can anyone think of anything else that might work as a first (or even a middle) for [name_f]Io[/name_f]? I’m ideally looking for an underused classic. Thoughts on [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f]/[name_f]Io[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f], as well as the above? I think my favourites are [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_f]Cicely[/name_f] [name_f]Io[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_f]Io[/name_f] so far, but not sure any of those feel perfect.

I guess I am in the minority, but I dislike [name_f]Io[/name_f]. I think it is better as a mn, but still am not a fan overall. It looks unfinished to me. When I see [name_f]Io[/name_f] written in a font without serifs, I tend to read it as ‘lo’. I also do not really love the various [name_f]Io[/name_f] lore in Greek Mythology.
