Iola

My mom’s name is “[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Iola[/name_f]” and that name went back five generations until she broke it with me. Now we are expecting a girl, just as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is hitting the top ten. I really don’t want a top ten name, so we are thinking “[name_f]Iola[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]” after maternal grandmothers, but is [name_f]Iola[/name_f] too unknown vintage for a first name? Or are less common names much more the norm now?

FYI, it’s pronounced - Eye-ola.

I have never heard of this name before, and my first reaction was: wow, how beautiful! Unusual or unique names are done often nowadays, I would totally go for it!

[name_f]Iola[/name_f] is incredible! I love the [name_f]Io[/name_f]- names: [name_f]Iola[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f] and just [name_f]Io[/name_f]. Such a beautiful, evocative sound.

I have never heard of [name_f]Iola[/name_f] and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it. Wow, what a beautiful name and certainly not in the top 10. And paired with [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (one of my favourite, favourite names but can’t use) its just divine.

Absolutely beautiful! I love it. It’s that perfect elusive new name that had family ties.

Thanks all! The name is so familiar to me, so an outsider’s perspective is great. It’s an older name, but I’ve never met an [name_f]Iola[/name_f] outside of my family though, so it truly is unique. Of course, hubby likes that he can call her “[name_f]Io[/name_f]” for short, which he thinks is cool since its a moon of [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] and ancient Greek character.

I feel like your daughter is very lucky to get such a beautiful name with family history too!

I find name [name_f]Iola[/name_f] just fine. I much prefer Charotte [name_f]Iola[/name_f], but [name_f]Iola[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is just as pretty.

It is unusual, but I love it! It’s so beautiful!
