We have [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] boy #3 is due in [name_f]September[/name_f]!
So far our top two names are:
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] (could also be [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u])
My husband thinks [name_u]Ira[/name_u] sounds too feminine for a son. What say you?
I love both names but [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sounds sort of like a preppy [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] League last-name name like [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] or [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] and I don’t really like that feel. We have strong biblical meaning with our other boys too, and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] doesn’t give that.
I’m up for [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] but does [name_u]August[/name_u] sound too close to [name_m]Asher[/name_m]?
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is so unique and goes perfectly with brothers [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m].
Without a doubt [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] would be my choice.
[name_u]August[/name_u] isn’t too close to [name_m]Asher[/name_m] but it doesn’t have the same significance as your other boy’s names. Same goes for [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
Edited to add: Ira doesn’t seem feminine to me. It falls in line with names like Luca and Ezra which largely have masculine associations and are popular and accepted names.
I like [name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_u]Everett[/name_u] with your sibset. I feel a little bit like I’m tripping over [name_u]Ira[/name_u] & [name_m]Silas[/name_m] when I say them together. I would vote for : [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u], or my personal fave, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u]. I think if you’re worried about the “preppy” factor with any of these names, [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is a nice way to balance that out.
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]! I love it on its own and all the more so with your other boys’ names.
Unless there is a particular significance to [name_u]Salem[/name_u], perhaps you could use [name_u]Everett[/name_u] in the middle? If I’m reading your original post correctly it sounds like you favor [name_u]Ira[/name_u] and your husband favors [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. Could using both be a compromise?
If his only objection is that [name_u]Ira[/name_u] sounds feminine, maybe reminding him of [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] would help?
Good luck! I think [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] are both quite handsome as well, so you can’t go wrong!
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u]! I don’t find it too feminine at all, but maybe a more masculine-sounding middle name could help ([name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] would work)
My second favorite would be [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u], I don’t think [name_u]August[/name_u] sounds too much like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] since its sound is much harsher
I don’t see [name_u]Ira[/name_u] as feminine. My great-grandpa and his grandpa were named [name_u]Ira[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] because it matches the theme you have with your other sons, but I prefer the names [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] and love them together.
Definitely [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]. I love both of those names as well as the nickname “Ev”. I agree with your husband that [name_u]Ira[/name_u] sounds a little too feminine and weird. If [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is too much for you, [name_u]Evan[/name_u] is a nice alternative
I really like [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] but if your husband doesn’t like it what about [name_m]Isiah[/name_m] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] or [name_m]Israel[/name_m] [name_u]Salem[/name_u]?
Thank you! This is exactly my train of thought. I love [name_u]Salem[/name_u] because we would have had [name_u]Shalom[/name_u]/[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] as a middle for a girl, but those definitely lean feminine. [name_u]Salem[/name_u] was the perfect fit.
I think [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is a really handsome combo. I know that wasn’t an option you gave, but I couldn’t help but to notice it.
I do think [name_u]Ira[/name_u] is too feminine and it doesn’t fit very well with your other names.
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] isn’t too feminine at all! It’s a boys name that happens to end with an ‘a’ but that doesn’t make it feminine. Goodness, sometimes I think husbands are so silly.
Plus there’s the famous reporter [name_u]Ira[/name_u] Glass so the name is familiar, yet uncommon, and fits very nicely with your other boys.
In my opinion, [name_u]Ira[/name_u] isn’t feminine at all. It’s like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] or [name_u]Luca[/name_u]–classic and masculine. I personally love [name_u]Ira[/name_u] (it’s classic & underused but so handsome!) but if your husband isn’t feeling it, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is a nice option. I do like [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u].
