DD is due at the end of [name]March[/name], and we have a short list of names we like but don’t necessarily love. This is our first child, and we were in love with [name]Elliot[/name] for a boy. We keep searching for a girl name that grabs us, but nothing has felt just right yet. We like something a little different and classic, but not overly so in either direction. We live in a small, southern U.S. town (not deep South, though) and are part of an academic community.
MN will be [name]Judith[/name], after DH’s late mother, and our last name sounds a lot like “Coaster”. Here’s our short list, and other suggestions are welcome!
Others that aren’t completely off the list: [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Norah[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] (although popular here) and [name]Whitney[/name].
I like [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Judith[/name] best out of those three. [name]Evie[/name] Coaster would be cute. I also like [name]Norah[/name] [name]Judith[/name].
I love the alliteration of [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Judith[/name]! And [name]Josie[/name] is such a great nickname. My second choice is [name]Norah[/name] [name]Judith[/name] for you.
I like [name]Iris[/name] best, but I think they’re all great. My only qualm is about [name]Evelyn[/name], but only because it’s very close to [name]Elliot[/name], if you wanted to use it in the future.
I appreciate that [name]Judith[/name] might be a no-negotiations name. But I think it’s heaviness is making it difficult to love any of those first names with it. ([name]Ivy[/name] [name]Judith[/name] might be nice though??)
But I [name]LOVE[/name] the first names [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] personally, just [name]Judith[/name] seems to throw them off… is there any way you could change [name]Judith[/name] to [name]Judy[/name], or some other variation, that could flow with a first name better, but still honour his mom fully?
I agree that [name]Judith[/name] is a substantial name, and she did always go by [name]Judy[/name]! However, [name]Judy[/name] seems so casual for a middle name. I can think of [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Judah[/name] as male variations, but I haven’t come up with any other female alternatives. Her middle name was [name]Lynn[/name], which DH mentioned would be OK with him to use instead of [name]Judith[/name]. But I feel like if we’re going to name DD after her late grandmother, we should commit to the first name. I’ll play around with “[name]Judy[/name]” in my mind, though!
I love [name]Nora[/name] [name]Judith[/name]. I would keep [name]Judith[/name] as it is. I do agree that [name]Iris[/name] [name]Judith[/name] is a bit of a mouthful, but what about [name]Isla[/name]? It seems to flow a bit smoother.
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Judith[/name] flows the nicest. The nickname “[name]Evie[/name]” is pretty cute. [name]Evelyn[/name] is pretty popular though. It’s in like the top 30, so be aware of that.
If you would rather not go with a name that is so popular, I’d say [name]Josephine[/name] is my second favourite. It sounds classic. I like it.
I love [name]Iris[/name] but agree with others that it doesn’t sound great with [name]Judith[/name].
Of the names you listed I like the sound of
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
Other Suggestions
[name]Amalia[/name] [name]Judith[/name] (like [name]Amelia[/name] but not as popular, [name]Abelia[/name] or [name]Adelia[/name] would also be close but different)
[name]Cecelia[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] [name]Judith[/name] (lie-luh)
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Liana[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Amabel[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Annaliese[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Sienna[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Avery[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Judith[/name]
Although I love [name]Iris[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Judith[/name] doesn’t flow well for me. Having similar 2nd syllables might be the problem… Anyway, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Judith[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names are lovely and the alliteration is fun but not silly. BTW, I’m in love with mn of [name]Judith[/name]! Such an underused beauty.
