What do you think of the name [name]Iris[/name] [name]Polly[/name]?
[name]Iris[/name] is for the flower and it’s various meanings (language of flowers, etymology, personal, etc.). [name]Polly[/name] is for the many [name]Marys[/name] in our family trees without actually using [name]Mary[/name].
I like [name]Iris[/name] and love love love [name]Polly[/name]. However, [name]Polly[/name] in middle name spot sounds a bit incomplete. What about [name]Iris[/name] [name]Pauline[/name]/[name]Polina[/name] and calling here [name]Iris[/name] [name]Polly[/name]?
If you want to honor a [name]Mary[/name], what about:
[name]Maria/name
[name]Mariah/name
[name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Masha[/name](Russian nickname for [name]Maria[/name], rhymes with [name]Sasha[/name])
Sorry if my ideas sound trivial, I actually like [name]Polly[/name] but as a first name.
I like both names but they look too short on the written page and they’re both two syllables. [name]Polly[/name] is fine to honour a [name]Mary[/name]. There were so many [name]Marys[/name] at one time that people had to invent some unusual nn’s to differentiate between them all - [name]Mary[/name]>[name]Moll[/name]>[name]Molly[/name]>[name]Polly[/name]. I would go all out and choose [name]Iris[/name] [name]Pollyanna[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you have any [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anne[/name] or [name]Anna[/name]'s in your family that you would like to honour?
It’s funny you should think [name]Polly[/name] in the middle sounds incomplete. That’s actually why we have her in the middle to begin with. [name]Polly[/name] to us feels childish and incomplete as a first name. Isn’t it funny how we all perceive things so differently?
You’ve given very interesting suggestions!
I had completely forgotten about [name]Polina[/name]. She’s so sweet, and seems ‘cleaner’ than [name]Paulina[/name]. [name]Iris[/name] [name]Polina[/name] would be darling.
It’s not honoring in the sense of a sincere wish to continue a name and keep a person’s name alive. It’s more of a familial connection without reusing a name.
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Pollyanna[/name] is so sweet. We have [name]Anna[/name] on our list as another first name idea so I think it might be putting all our eggs (names?) in one basket to consider it.
Ha ha, really funny:) That’s may happen because of my love more vintage nicknames: [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Lottie[/name], [name]Polly[/name]…
I assume your pronounce [name]Polina[/name] not like [name]Paulina[/name], don’t you? [name]Polina[/name] is actually a Russian feminization of [name]Pavel[/name] and pronounced a bit differently. I also love mischa’s suggestion of Polyanna.
