Irish and Persian Daughter

I am fully Irish and my husband is Persian/Arabic. I am pregnant and looking for names for our daughter, yes we know for sure its a girl  We are both very proud of our heritages and would like to give her an Irish name and well as Persian or Arabic name. [name]One[/name] will be the middle and the other the first, but it does not matter which is which. Can you suggest some names of both cultures. For girls so far we have come up with [name]Lila[/name], [name]Soraya[/name] (means princess) and [name]Shirin[/name] (pronounced Shereen and means sweet) in the Persian category and we really don’t have anything yet for the Irish part. My husband is Catholic as am I so we would prefer nothing too tied to the Islamic religion (this is just a preference though, we have nothing against nor mean any disrespect to anyone of the Islamic religion) This is the first baby name site we have tried and we are hoping for good things

Thanks in advance.

[name]Mona[/name] and [name]Nessa[/name] are two names that are both legitimately Irish and Persian. [name]Leila[/name] would also work, although it’s REALLY common for Persian girls in the US.

I am sure you will get a lot of awesome feedback on Irish names in this forum, plus there are a billion Irish name sites out there. Here’s the best one for Persian names that I have found:

Iranian Girl's Names (covers A-M)
http://www.irantour.org/Iran/persian_girl_names.html (covers N-Z)

Also, FYI, [name]Soraya[/name] doesn’t mean princess, although there was a queen of Iran named [name]Soraya[/name] in the last century. It means the Pleiades constellation (which is also a very lovely meaning!).

I love [name]Lila[/name], Soryara, and [name]Shirin[/name]! If I or my DH were Persian I would love to name my daughter [name]Soraya[/name]!

Arabic Names:
[name]Farah[/name]
[name]Imani[/name] (means faith but I don’t think it is too tied to Islam but you may)
[name]Ranya[/name]
[name]Samira[/name]
[name]Yasmine[/name]

Persian Names:
[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Leila[/name]
[name]Suri[/name] (maybe as a MN)
[name]Vashti[/name] (I have always had a crush on this name)

Irish:
[name]Alana[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Caoimhe[/name]
[name]Cassidy[/name]
[name]Clodagh[/name]
[name]Colleen[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Enya[/name]/[name]Eithne[/name]
[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Ireland[/name]
[name]Kathleen[/name]
[name]Keely[/name]
[name]Kennedy[/name]
[name]Kenzie[/name]
[name]Moira[/name]
[name]Mona[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] (I saw that you liked it on one of my threads)
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Sheridan[/name]
[name]Sloan[/name]
[name]Talullah[/name]
[name]Tierney[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] you like some of those

My favorite Arabic name is [name]Rama[/name], though my grandmother was Sarifa. I love [name]Keira[/name] for an Irish girl name. Those are off the top of my head, I’ll come back again after looking through my book!!

So many wonderful names have been already posted!
With that said, I love the idea of [name]Leila[/name] [name]Quinn[/name].

I love all three of your name choices, but I am a little partial to [name]Lila[/name] because my daughter’s name is [name]Lyla[/name] [name]Shea[/name]. I guess that fits your bill as a name, although traditionally I believe [name]Shea[/name] is more of a masculine name. I like the sound of [name]Lila[/name] with a single syllable middle name…we also thought of [name]Brynn[/name] (which we ended up using for daughter #2 instead).

My favorite Persian name is [name]Esther[/name] (“pearl”). A lovely, classic name.

I love [name]Esther[/name] too!

My favorite Persian girl names are [name]Vashti[/name] and [name]Roxana[/name] and they aren’t too foreign to the English-speaking ear.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned [name]Anahita[/name] yet. Very straightforward in spelling and pronunciation, and provides the familiar, [name]Ana[/name], as a nickname. It’s a real gem of a choice, and one of my favorite Persian names.

Other Persian choices that I think would work in a multicultural family: [name]Sara[/name], [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Parisa[/name], [name]Zahra[/name]/[name]Zara[/name], [name]Saba[/name], [name]Farah[/name], [name]Noor[/name], [name]Mina[/name], [name]Tala[/name], [name]Yasmin[/name]/[name]Yasmina[/name], [name]Darya[/name], maybe [name]Fairuza[/name]

Other Persian names that I like: Elaheh, [name]Laleh[/name], Sholeh, Taraneh, Farzaneh

I like [name]Leila[/name] a lot too. I don’t [name]Norah[/name]/[name]Nora[/name] is far off from [name]Noor[/name] ether.

For Irish names, I like a lot that were already mentioned. Others: [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Honora[/name], LĂadan, [name]Neve[/name], [name]Orla[/name]

Hopefully these are helpful suggestions. I think they lend themselves to some really beautiful combinations. (I had some fun making some myself. Maybe they will help with some inspiration.)

[name]Lila[/name] [name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Kathleen[/name] [name]Noor[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name] [name]Kathleen[/name]
[name]Alana[/name] [name]Shirin[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Soraya[/name]
[name]Neve[/name] [name]Soraya[/name]
[name]Sara[/name] Elaheh
[name]Anahita[/name] LĂadan
[name]Finola[/name] [name]Yasmin[/name]
[name]Parisa[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Fairuza[/name] [name]Orla[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] Sholeh
[name]Honora[/name] [name]Laleh[/name]
Farzaneh [name]Maeve[/name]

Maybe even have names like [name]Norah[/name] or [name]Honora[/name] (use [name]Noor[/name] as a nickname) or [name]Tallulah[/name] (use [name]Tala[/name] as the nn).

Best of luck!

My all time favourite Irish names are: [name]Saoirse[/name] and [name]Aoife[/name].

So, I would pair it this way: [name]Saoirse[/name] [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Aoife[/name] [name]Soraya[/name].

I think [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Soraya[/name] are gorgeous!

I like [name]Shirin[/name] a lot.

I like a lot of irish names, but my favourites are [name]Eilidh[/name], [name]Niamh[/name], [name]Moira[/name] and [name]Caoimhe[/name].

[name]Roisin[/name], [name]Saoirse[/name], [name]Finola[/name], [name]Neve[/name], and [name]Maeve[/name] are my favorite Irish names. [name]Farrah[/name], [name]Zara[/name], [name]Noor[/name], and [name]Lela[/name] are my favorite Persian names.

[name]Shirin[/name] was my first thought when I read the name of the thread:) I think it’s very pretty. My favourite Arabic girl name is [name]Aziza[/name]. [name]Aziza[/name] [name]Finola[/name] would be pretty:)
