Irish Names

I am looking into Irish names to honor my heritage. I have come up with a lot of boys names that I love and I think fit my style  I am looking for opinions on the names as well as more suggestions for Irish names that fit my style

[name]Cassian[/name] (how would you pronounce this also)
[name]Tierney[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] (love the NN [name]Don[/name])
[name]Dublin[/name]
[name]Sheridan[/name] (is this too feminine)
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Brady[/name]
[name]Vance[/name] (love the NN [name]Van[/name])
[name]Liam[/name] (would probably [name]William[/name] with NN [name]Liam[/name])
[name]Kennedy[/name] (is it too feminine?)
[name]Reagan[/name] (too feminine? too political?)
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Troy[/name]
[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]

Thanks

[name]Cassian[/name] (how would you pronounce this also) - I would pronounce this [name]Cass[/name]-i-an, however I’d want to pronounce is [name]Cash[/name]-an upon first glance. I prefer [name]Cassius[/name]. [name]Cassian[/name] pronounced either way is a mouthful.
[name]Tierney[/name] - I like this name but prefer it on a girl.
[name]Donovan[/name] (love the NN [name]Don[/name]) - [name]Love[/name] it. You could use the nn [name]Van[/name] for this one also. The nickname [name]Don[/name] seems quite dated to [name]Donald[/name].
[name]Dublin[/name] - Not my style.
[name]Sheridan[/name] (is this too feminine) - This is far too feminine.
[name]Garrett[/name] - [name]Adore[/name]. Great name choice!
[name]Brady[/name] - [name]Love[/name], although it is quite trendy. I’d still use it.
[name]Vance[/name] (love the NN [name]Van[/name]) - I like this but I prefer [name]Donovan[/name] with the nickname [name]Van[/name].
[name]Liam[/name] (would probably [name]William[/name] with NN [name]Liam[/name]) - I love [name]William[/name] and [name]Liam[/name], both as given names.
[name]Kennedy[/name] (is it too feminine?) - I prefer [name]Kennedy[/name] on a boy with the nn [name]Ken[/name].
[name]Reagan[/name] (too feminine? too political?) - I knew a girl named [name]Reagan[/name], but I can see it work well on a boy too.
[name]Shane[/name] - Classic and underused. [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Troy[/name] - Bad association, cannot comment.
[name]Seamus[/name] - I like this and I don’t anticipate many misprounciation issues. It’s quite commonplace.
[name]Beckett[/name] - I prefer many other [name]Beck[/name]- names to [name]Beckett[/name].

[name]Cassian[/name] – [name]Cass[/name]- ee-an… I like this name a lot!
[name]Tierney[/name] – This one, not so much. I like [name]Kieran[/name] better.
[name]Donovan[/name] – I like [name]Donovan[/name] too and think it’s a very strong name
[name]Dublin[/name] – nms I don’t like place names unless they have meaning
[name]Sheridan[/name] – This is too feminine for me. On a girl, i would call her [name]Sheri[/name].
[name]Garrett[/name] – [name]Love[/name] this! As a matter of fact, was asking questions about it in another thread
[name]Brady[/name] – nms Seems very “right now” and I’ve already met several that are all the same age
[name]Vance[/name] – [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Vance[/name]. I know someone with this name.
[name]Liam[/name] – Personally, I like [name]Liam[/name] on it’s own (cause I like it so much) but think using it as a nn is fine
[name]Kennedy[/name] – Again, I’ve met several girls with this name.
[name]Reagan[/name] – lol There’s another girl at my daycare with this name >.< I do think both Reagan and Kennedy are too political
Shane – Shane is nice but ruined by personal associations
Troy – I actually really like this, mostly for historical purposes, even though it seems a little … idk trendy?
Seamus – I’ve noticed a lot of people liking this here lately but I can’t get behind it
Beckett – nms

You’ve found some nice names!
You might also like:

Ferris
Keiran
Kendrick
Korrigan
Kylan
Laughlin
Lochlain
Malachi
Quillan
Torin
Trevor

There you go! You like any of those?

Awww, I love [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Reagan[/name]! I’ve been considering [name]Donovan[/name] as a MN lately… I think it’s really cool. I’ve been considering [name]Reagan[/name] lately, too, but I don’t think I’d use it personally if it didn’t honor my family’s initials.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Beckett[/name], too, I think it’s completely awesome, and I’d love to use it someday. I don’t know if I really should, though, since [name]Everett[/name] is now on my top 5 for my boys’ list. I also have [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] on my girls’ list, and I might use [name]Elliot[/name] as a MN somewhere on my boys’ list ([name]Spencer[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] or something).

I also like [name]Brady[/name], but prefer [name]Brody[/name], which I’ve been seriously considering lately.

I’ve heard [name]Jack[/name] is popular in [name]Ireland[/name]/all over the UK… I know you already have it on your list. Maybe that could be a way to honor your heritage?

I like the suggestions of [name]Quillan[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name], too. For some reason I always don’t think I like any Irish boys’ names until I actually hear them, haha. So I can’t think of anything except [name]Aidan[/name], which is terribly popular/trendy right now. Ohh, and I like [name]Tierney[/name] okay from your list, but if it was [name]Tiernan[/name], I would swoon! [name]LOVE[/name] that name, and I keep considering [name]Jack[/name] [name]Tiernan[/name] something-or-other instead of [name]Jack[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Cole[/name] because I can’t get it out of my head!

[name]Just[/name] googled Irish boys’ names, and here are a few that came up. I’m pretty much loathe to even bring up [name]Connor[/name] (really bad association, haha, he was such an idiot!), but it seems to be well-loved by others…

[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Sean[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Kian[/name]/[name]Cian[/name] (KEE-an)
[name]Euan[/name]/[name]Owen[/name]/[name]Eoin[/name] (pretty sure they’re three totally different names, but I saw [name]Eoin[/name] and it reminded me of [name]Euan[/name] and [name]Owen[/name]…)
[name]Patrick[/name] (awww. I think this is so lovely)
[name]Kieran[/name]/[name]Ciaran[/name] (both said [name]KEER[/name]-an)
[name]Niall[/name] (I think this is like [name]NYE[/name]-all, but I could be mistaken)
[name]Ronan[/name]/[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Bowen[/name] (means “son of [name]Owen[/name]” I think)
Fion/[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finley[/name]/[name]Finnegan[/name]/[name]Finnian[/name]

I really want to suggest [name]Callum[/name], too, but one site I saw said it was Scottish, not Irish…

Good luck!

Some of my favorite Gaelic boy names…
Achaius [ah-KEE-us]
[name]Caedmon[/name] [KAD-mun]
[name]Cian[/name] [KEE-in]
[name]Cillian[/name] [KILL-yen]
Fionnlagh [FINN-lee]
[name]Aodhan[/name] [AY-den]
[name]Oisin[/name] [aw-SHEEN]

Thanks!

@dantea- I really like your suggestions of [name]Kendrick[/name] and [name]Devlin[/name] (it gives me a similar feel to [name]Seamus[/name] as well  ) I love [name]Callahan[/name] as well but I already have [name]Callum[/name] which I think I like more. Not sure how I feel about [name]Quillan[/name] anymore. They more I see it the more I think I like it but not sure.

@ashthedreamer - I know an idiot [name]Connor[/name] as well maybe it is the same one LOL! I love [name]Tiernan[/name] as well! I am thinking of changing [name]Roman[/name] to [name]Ronan[/name] but not sure. I want to love [name]Patrick[/name] because it honors my grandfather but it is an also an ex’s name that I just cannot stand. Does anyone know any variations???

I am not sure about [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Keiran[/name]. They come across as very unisex to me but I am not sure. I really like them both but I just don’t know if they fit.

lol, I kind of doubt it’s the same [name]Connor[/name]! I think I read somewhere you’re in TX? I don’t think he’s ever been there. Mainly PA and TN. Still it’d be funny if it was the same [name]Connor[/name]. The only variations I can think of are [name]Patryk[/name] (which I believe is a Polish variation or something…), and the original form is [name]Padraig[/name]. NB’s database lists [name]Patton[/name] as a variant, but I think it’s really just a similar name… the meanings aren’t the same. Still, [name]Patton[/name] might be a cool nod to your grandpa. Not sure if it’s very Irish/Gaelic, though.

[name]LOVE[/name] @dantea’s suggestion of [name]Devlin[/name], though! I read it in a story over 5 years ago and it’s still stuck with me. [name]Dev[/name] is such a cool nn, and I would love to meet a [name]Devlin[/name]. Despite the fact that the [name]Devlin[/name] in the book was a total jerk, haha. I still like the name.

LOL I am not in TX anymore, I moved back home to WV just a few months ago, but my [name]Connor[/name] is still in TX far away where he belongs  must be something in the name LOL [name]Patton[/name] might be cool since my grandpa was in the army and it could have the [name]Pat[/name] connection as well and the army connection because of [name]General[/name] [name]Patton[/name]

My sons are [name]Eamonn[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] and [name]Colin[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]. A couple more to consider. I think.a.variation of.[name]Patrick[/name] is [name]Padraig[/name] (I believe that’s the spelling) which is the Gaelic variation. I also have recently been drawn to the name [name]Desmond[/name]. In your list [name]Cassius[/name] is my favorite.pronounced Cashis and I.have always loved [name]Liam[/name] but get to aggravated when people say Lamb.

Thanks! [name]Just[/name] not sure about [name]Patrick[/name] and how to still honor him without the negative associations. [name]Padraig[/name] is nice but not sure. I am really liking [name]Patton[/name] at least as an MN.

Out of yours I like [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Liam[/name], [name]Seamus[/name], and [name]Beckett[/name].

My absolute favorite Irish boy name is [name]Kieran[/name].

[name]Cassian[/name] - I’ve never heard this before, and I’ve lived in [name]Ireland[/name] my whole life. It doesn’t look to Irish too me, but I’m guessing the pn would be [name]Cass[/name]-yan. Nice, but not an authentic Irish name imo.
[name]Tierney[/name] - This is okay. A surname here.
[name]Donovan[/name] (love the NN [name]Don[/name]) - As above, only a ridiculously common surname. This is my [name]MIL[/name]'s maiden name, haha.
[name]Dublin[/name] - I wouldn’t. [name]Don[/name]'t like this as a name.
[name]Sheridan[/name] (is this too feminine) Not too feminine, but again, a surname.
[name]Garrett[/name] - This is okay. I wasn’t aware this was Irish.
[name]Brady[/name] - Another really common surname!
[name]Vance[/name] (love the NN [name]Van[/name]) Nice. I’d prefer [name]Sullivan[/name], nn [name]Van[/name].
[name]Liam[/name] (would probably [name]William[/name] with NN [name]Liam[/name]) Gorgeous. My husband is a [name]William[/name] nn [name]Liam[/name]
[name]Kennedy[/name] (is it too feminine?) Too feminine, and tryndee amongst the girls.
[name]Reagan[/name] (too feminine? too political?) Not a fan.
[name]Shane[/name] Nice, though a little dated.
[name]Troy[/name] - Sweet
[name]Seamus[/name] - Handsome
[name]Beckett[/name] - I wasn’t aware this was Irish. Its certainly not used as a name here, as far as I’m aware.
