Is a made up name ok

If it is beyond gorgeous? This is a spin off from my last thread where I was debating between [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I’m pretty sure I’m leaning towards [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but it just seems short next to my sons names, and ours as well. My son is [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], and my husband and I both have three syllable ‘s’ names.

So… People on my last post mentioned Coralise and Coralei. Coralise is of particular interest to me, and I think it is just beautiful. It doesn’t sound made up at all to me. But… It is. With [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] as it is, we always get ‘oh, [name_u]James[/name_u] is so nice!’ And I’m always thinking ‘well, that’s great but that’s not his name!’

Coralise sounds familiar, elegant and sweet. I love that we could still call her [name_f]Cora[/name_f] ([name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is [name_u]Jem[/name_u]), but that she would have a fuller and more ‘complete’ name to use as well. I just don’t know if I can go through with it not being a ‘real’ name! I don’t want it to sound like I just squashed a name together in my head and called it a day. I usually find made up names to sound a little ‘trashy’ for lack of a better phrase, and I just don’t want my daughter to be stuck with that!

But… It’s gorgeous!

Another option would be to hyphenate [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] ([name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a famiy name) but I don’t know if I could handle the hyphen either, and then it seems a little TOO much.

Thoughts??

Honestly I say just go with [name_f]Cora[/name_f], that’s the name you really love. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a wonderful name and sounds perfectly fine with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. Maybe you should just sleep on it for a while and then come back to it. You don’t want to drive yourself crazy.

I don’t think you need to have a longer version of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] to use it! Coralise is very sweet, but [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is perfectly usable on its own too! You aways have the option of occasionally calling her coralise even if her given name is [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. My one daughter has a nickname that is considerably longer than her given name. It just happened!
I tend to get a bit squirmy myself when searching for “the name” if I were in your position I would put both down on my list and wait to see how I feel in a few days, then weeks, then months ( if time allows)

That said, I do prefer coralise to [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f]

I love the Coralise and Coralei options!
You could also go with [name_f]Coral[/name_f] or [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]…

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] on it own is pretty but the name feel so old! I like the made up names in this case!

Yes you could total do it, and many people will love it!

On one hand, I think just [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is pretty and if you love it, why not go for it? It’s established enough to stand on its own.

On the other, Coralise sounds very feminine and sweet. [name_f]Imo[/name_f], there isn’t anything wrong with a made-up name as long as the spelling is cohesive enough to make it work. When you think about it, all names were made-up at one point in time anyway.

I am not a fan of made up names, but actually quite like coralise. If it was me I would just go with cora, as it sounds like you love it and she will be called cora anyway. I dont think it latters that it is a shorter name. I dont like hyphenated first names and am not keen on cora-louise

Coralise is very sweet, and I think it works really well as a name. I think so long as the elements are cohesive, and it’s not terribly jarring, ‘smoosh’ names can definitely work, and work well. I really like Roseliese myself and it’s a ‘smoosh’ type name… [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is gorgeous alone, and I don’t think it’s too short next to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], however, yes, Coralise is lovely.

I think Coralise is beautiful and doesn’t look made up at all and goes very well with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. What about [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]?

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f]. I really dislike hyphenated names and I also dislike [name_f]Louise[/name_f], so the name makes me squirm up a little. That being said, its your choice.

Good luck.

As others have said, all names were made up at some point. I like both [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and Coralise as names. However, I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sounds way better with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] as a sibset. It’s a mouthful to say [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and Coralise. If you were going to go longer, I’d choose Coralei to sound better with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. Or just [name_f]Cora[/name_f] on its own, which would be my preference.
