Is Aerie usable?

I think this name is very pretty and so does my husband. Is this spelling acceptable or should we spell it another way?

The only potential problem I can see with it is that there’s a popular clothing brand called Aerie, which might not be the best association for some people. I think a different spelling would eliminate that, but I’m not sure what spelling alternative to suggest. I think it’s a pretty-sounding name though!

How is it pronounced?

Based on how the clothing brand is said, i think like air-y.
Very pretty name, I think it’s usable. Personally, I would use it as a nickname, but I think it works as a full name as well.

I do quite enjoy the sounds!!

It’s an underwear brand in the US. Airie might be usable? I’d play with the spelling a bit. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe find a full name that Aerie could be a nick name for.

I love the name [name_f]Aerith[/name_f] (yes, Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] lol) so Aerie sits very well with me. I love it.

I do immediately think of the clothing brand, but it is a cool name! I think it works!

I like this spelling a lot! It is associated with the American [name_u]Eagle[/name_u] cloth brand but I don’t find that to be a bad thing really.

Aerie feels light and feathery. :eagle:

Another option is [name_f]Averie[/name_f] if the clothing brand bugs you. Feels very similar to me! [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] would be cool too.

I’ve always liked this spelling, but I would find it unusable due to the clothing brand. I would spell it [name_u]Ari[/name_u] personally (which I’ve always said like “airy” but is also [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for a lot of people).

Also want to point out that aerie is a word too meaning large bird nest!

I have a niece named Arienne (Air-ee-en) who goes by [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (Air-ee). I want to like the spelling of Aerie but I just think of the brand.

Maybe [name_u]Arie[/name_u]?

There are some names that lend themselves to more correction in pronunciation, but I think people are used to being corrected when it’s a name they’ve not encountered. I would personally opt for an alternate spelling and use the pronunciation you love!

I wouldn’t use it as a first name by itself, maybe as a nickname for [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]? I think spelling and pronunciation would be a big issue that you’d have to constantly correct

To my eye, it’s pronounced “EE-ree”, like the word meaning eagle’s nest.
Having said that, it makes a very unique & daring name choice (as long as you’re okay with frequent pronunciation issues), so I like it!
For similar variations: [name_f]Aerin[/name_f], [name_f]Eira[/name_f], [name_f]Ayra[/name_f], [name_f]Eri[/name_f], [name_u]Aria[/name_u], Aera.
