Is Alice associated with pedophilia?

i agree!

:fearful::fearful:

I never even knew about it! I wouldn’t use it with that last name sadly :fearful::fearful:

I think it’s fine to name your child [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I had never even heard of “Alice day” until I saw this post. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a [name_m]German[/name_m] name that means noble or exalted by the way.

I’d still use [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I don’t think anyone would think of that. It’s hardly a well-known thing, if it exists in reality at all. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely name.

I agree with @namer_gamer. What they wrote were my thoughts exactly. I love the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I wouldn’t be able to use it with that last name knowing there was a possibility it could make her a target.

To echo everyone else here, and the Snopes article, this association is incredibly niche. I doubt it will enter mainstream consciousness.

I really wouldn’t let depraved people ruin a perfectly good name that has lasted the centuries. I am firmly of the belief that sexual offenders should not take more from us than they already have. We can claim for ourselves a life away from them – one where [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely name without any such perversions.

It truly sounds like classic rumour. I knew its fake the moment i read op post. Thats said, obviously can’t really name kid Alice with the last name Day.

I had never heard of that before. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is fine, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] with [name_u]Day[/name_u] as a last name makes me hesitate and I think I agree that it should maybe be moved to the middle in your case.

Never heard of it. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is such a beautiful, classic name, with tons of better associations. I think it’s still safe to use, but if it bothers you so much, what about [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?

I’ve never heard of that. However, I don’t know if I would use the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f] with the name [name_u]Day[/name_u], just in case it ends up being something well-known. I’m so sorry for this dilemma and I totally love the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. If not for [name_u]Day[/name_u], I’d say you could still use it. It’d be sad if we can’t use a name that isn’t even the name of a bad person. [name_m]Even[/name_m] names that are, I wish they could still be usable. For example, I also like the name [name_m]Adolf[/name_m]. Would never use it for a child because of clear reasons, but I wish the name could be used. It’s unfortunate when an evil person or terrible events make a name unusable.

That’s so disgusting, even if it’s fake. We shouldn’t live in a world where mentally disturbed* people are so prevalent that they can even claim a day. That’s a sick thing to be proud of. If I saw someone flaunting being a P word (sorry, I’m uncomfortable saying it) I’d call the cops immediately. I would not leave that monster on the streets. I’m glad this day was proved not to really exist, but who started the rumors in the first place?
(*By mentally disturbed I mean people who think it’s cool or okay to do that to children.)

Agreed! @GeographyDragon

I think it is likely that one or two pedophiles tried to start a pride day and it didn’t catch on before a few news sites found it and blew it up for views. News sites are known to prey on parent’s anxiety by blowing up rumors of harm to children. For example: several news sources claimed that hundreds of people were putting drugs or razor blades in Halloween candy, but there were only two recorded cases of this happening, and it had been the parents planting it in order to collect insurance money.

What parents and minors should look out for are these two acronyms: MAP (minor attracted person) and PEAR (pro-expression, anti-repression) and the usage of :world_map: or :pear: in people’s bios. These are widely used by pedophiles in an attempt to disguise what they are, sick disgusting freaks.

“Alice Day,” however, is probably not going to ring any alarm bells. It seems like it was a rumor spread on the internet in an attempt to get views/clicks. However, if the name is going to bother OP by thinking about it, they shouldn’t use it.

Agreed.

I’ve never heard of it but if it bothers you that much, I’d recommend you don’t use it. I don’t believe that people should be allowed to make bad things out of names, but if you or your daughter meet anyone who has heard of the rumor, you could get some funny looks. (People should keep their problematic associations to themselves)

Hyphenating [name_f]Alice[/name_f] could be an option.
