Is it too feminine for a boy nowadays?
I love the name [name]Ambrose[/name], and have asked myself the same question in the past regarding the femininity factor of the name. Then I met an infant named [name]Ambrose[/name], and it really helped solidify that [name]Ambrose[/name] is completely boy!
I also think because I like the nickname ‘[name]Bo[/name]’ for [name]Ambrose[/name], maybe it helps make it feel more masculine for me…but all in all, I wouldn’t worry about it. [name]Ambrose[/name] is such a handsome name and believe me, was it ever refreshing to meet a new little one!
I’ve always assumed it’s a boys’ name. It’s hard for me to picture it on a girl.
It’s definitely a boys name. It’s one of those soft and sensitive boy names, which is fine. I like [name]Ambrose[/name]. I love the softness of it and if you use [name]Bo[/name] as a nickname, that’s a more manly nickname.
I only see it as a boys name.
I don’t think it’s too feminine at all! It sounds dashingly masculine, imo. I love the female variant, [name]Ambrosia[/name], too.
[name]Ambrose[/name] is my favorite boy name, and I would use it in a heartbeat on a son. Unfortunately it’s not my husband’s favorite, and I have two other kids with A names already. If I do have a boy next (we’re TTC) I will incorporate it as a middle name most likely. I just have to use it!
I love that people are starting to notice this name!!! <3
I think the emphasis on “bro” makes it sound too manly for a girl
[name]Ambrose[/name] is not feminine. [name]Ambrosia[/name] is the feminine form.
[name]Do[/name] I think [name]Ambrose[/name] is feminine? No. But I feel like popular perception is going to hear a smush of [name]Amber[/name] and [name]Rose[/name], not a historical male name. I wouldn’t necessarily let that stop you, but I’d be prepared for some confusion. If I were to give it to a son, I’d use a more common masculine middle just in case he wanted to go by something more traditionally “manly”, so to speak.
It doesn’t sound feminine to me. The -rose ending might confuse people who have never heard of the name.
It’s definitely all masculine to me.
I don’t think anyone is going to think it’s a girl’s name, but I don’t think that’s really what you’re asking. I would say it’s a soft name not a ‘manly’ name. I love it though, and I generally like softer boy’s names, but I could see a child getting teased about it. It’s soft and aristocratic which makes it sounds a bit snooty for the average pre-schooler. I love it but I’m trying to be honest and objective. I think it would work better in the middle.
