Is America a viable name for a girl?

I am South American. I love [name_u]America[/name_u] as a continent. So much respect for latin america and all its cultures, I am currently studying the music history of groups in the americas and i’ll say it: It is magical!
Yes, I get [name_u]America[/name_u] as a whole continent carries a lot of baggage.
I mean, it can get misinterpreted. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if so, neither the mom nor the father of the baby are related to U.S.A. and we will move to [name_f]Argentina[/name_f] soon. So, little América will not grow in [name_u]America[/name_u]…she will grow in Latin [name_u]America[/name_u] or Spain. Although I guess we will travel with her tho…

It doesn’t really bother me tbh, if it gets misunderstood, because [name_u]America[/name_u] is a great country! Thus, I’ll explain the reason behind choosing this name for my kid. South [name_u]America[/name_u], my origins…I was born in Venezuela… América is a lovely sound itself…don’t you think? It also means heroic princess and that’s very empowering…

Thank u xoxo

I think you can use it. Being prepared to answer some negative responses is good and I like your explanation!

I think so, because there’s the actress [name_u]America[/name_u] Ferrerra. In the book series The Selection, the main character is named [name_u]America[/name_u] Singer.

I think it depends on the culture/mood of Argentinians regarding [name_u]America[/name_u] as a name. If you are interested in similar name ideas, you could consider:

[name_f]Amira[/name_f]
[name_f]Anjelica[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Amiya[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
Aimara
Akela
[name_f]Ariela[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
Alora
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
Avelina
[name_f]Amica[/name_f]

I wouldn’t use it, but I don’t care for place names (cities, countries, continents, etc) for children in general.

I definitely see why some people wouldn’t like it, but I think it makes a lovely name. Sounds like you’re already prepared to defend your choice and your explanation is great!

If you’re Latin American, I don’t see any issue with it. It is a known name ([name_u]America[/name_u] Ferrera being an example).
