Is Angela too dated?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries! I’m loving the name [name_u]Angie[/name_u] so so much! But it is a bit dated and nicknamey. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I should use the full name [name_f]Angela[/name_f], or is that even more dated? Also, what are good middles that could go with [name_f]Angela[/name_f]?

I think it works. To me I think of the office right away, but maybe because I’m binging it right now :joy:

Annie could be a more fresh nn or [name_f]Ella[/name_f]

How about [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_u]Angie[/name_u]? That’s a more modern take I feel like!

Or [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]

Neither [name_u]Angie[/name_u] nor [name_f]Angela[/name_f] are too dated! As a general rule, I pay no attention to whether people consider a name dated or not. At the end of the day, if you love it, and the name will not cause your child to suffer any unnecessary name-related bullying, you should go for it. [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] are also good options like a previous poster just mentioned!

I personally think [name_u]Angie[/name_u] is fine as a standalone! If you would like [name_f]Angela[/name_f] as an option for more formal settings, [name_u]Angie[/name_u] is obviously an intuitive nickname but I see no reason why [name_u]Angie[/name_u] can’t be a formal name.

I’ll try to find middle names that go well with both [name_f]Angela[/name_f] and [name_u]Angie[/name_u]…

Angela [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] / [name_u]Angie[/name_u] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]

Angie and [name_f]Angela[/name_f] be a bit dated, but I like [name_f]Angela[/name_f] fine! I did meet a young [name_u]Angie[/name_u] a few years ago.

I immediately think of The Office. She’s pretty stuck up and annoying so it’s not that great of a namesake. [name_u]Angie[/name_u] seems dated to me, but I think [name_f]Angela[/name_f] is usable if you can get passed all the different connections. [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] “[name_f]Lena[/name_f]” seems a bit more modern or even [name_f]Angelica[/name_f].

I don’t think [name_f]Angela[/name_f] is too dated, but I do think [name_u]Angie[/name_u] is too nicknamey imo. I did think of [name_f]Angela[/name_f] from the office when I first saw [name_f]Angela[/name_f], which isn’t the best connotation. Some other names that could use [name_u]Angie[/name_u] as a nn are [name_f]Angelica[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Angelina[/name_f].

Thanks! A previous poster mentioned the office as well! I personally don’t mind as I love the office. The character of [name_f]Angela[/name_f] does redeem herself and after listening to the Office Ladies podcast whenever I think of [name_f]Angela[/name_f] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] I end up thinking of [name_f]Angela[/name_f] [name_f]Kinsey[/name_f], who is amazing!

Thank you! I really like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] but it doesn’t match my other kids names sadly!

I definitely agree with this.

That is so true! I was going to mention that but I got sidetracked . [name_f]Angela[/name_f] [name_f]Kinsey[/name_f] is such a sweet person and totally redeems the character, I agree!

Angela is sweet and underused though [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] feel slightly fresher!

Angela honestly strikes me more as a classic, as it’s one of those names that has never left the top 1000 in the US  Also, makes me thing of the little girl from Degrassi: The Next Generation  she’d be like my age now, but she’s my first association!

I quite like it

To me [name_u]Angie[/name_u] sounds more fresh than [name_f]Angela[/name_f], but [name_f]Angela[/name_f] isn’t bad by any means. I think it will sound very cute to a little girl.

It’s too dated for me, personally (but I see no problem with it for someone else’s child). I would expect an [name_f]Angela[/name_f] to be at least 30. [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] sound younger to me. However, I live in the UK and perhaps it’s more of a classic name in other countries?

I really like [name_f]Angela[/name_f] I think it’s pretty and worthy of revival I worked with a client who had a baby daughter called [name_f]Angela[/name_f] I thought it was a lovely choice.

I really like [name_f]Angela[/name_f]! Although the few I’ve met have all been older, I think the sound is sweet and strong and perfectly in-tune with current trends, so I don’t think of it as a particularly dated name.

Angie feels a touch more dated to me, but I think it would make for a sweet and fresh retro revival!

I know a standalone [name_u]Angie[/name_u] (she’s in her teens)! It’s not too dated imo.

I don’t know any little [name_f]Angela[/name_f]’s but I’d love to meet one! I actually just watched the sweet little cartoon “[name_f]Angela[/name_f]’s [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]” on Netflix where the main character has the name and it totally opened my eyes to it in a new way. It’s a really heartwarming movie and [name_f]Angela[/name_f] is such a pure and kind character, if you haven’t seen it!
