Is Anna overused?

[name]Hi[/name] again! I keep changing my mind about what to name our third daughter. The last name I posted about was [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Adeline[/name], and the feedback I received on this site was similar to the feedback I received when I asked my family about the name – nice name, but pretty common and dated. So, we’re back to considering the original name we liked – [name]Anna[/name]. We think [name]Anna[/name] goes will with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]. And we think it’s a beautiful name (as well as a family name). My only concern is that I know lots of little girls named [name]Anna[/name] – none in our family, though. I’d be interested in hearing if you all think [name]Anna[/name] is too popular now – or is it one of those names that’s just always around. I’m really liking [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]. Your thoughts?

Thanks again, and hopefully we find the perfect name soon!
[name]Kellie[/name]

[name]Hi[/name]! I love [name]Anna[/name], and I think that [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is so gorgeous!!! I also love that it’s a family name for you, and I think it’s wonderful with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name].

Yes, [name]Anna[/name] is popular (#22), but to me, there’s a big difference between trendy and popular, and [name]Anna[/name] isn’t trendy. At all. To me, [name]Anna[/name] is a timeless classic, “always around,” as you put it, much like [name]Elizabeth[/name] (#9).

So, here’s one vote for [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name].

Good luck!

I rarely here of little girls named [name]Anna[/name]. I think, like [name]Jill[/name] said, that it may be popular in some areas but is definitely not trendy, so I would encourage you to use it. I think [name]Anna[/name] is adorable, and I love [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]! It also goes really well with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Kellie[/name]!

Coincidentally, my name is [name]Lauren[/name], and the combination [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is on my own list for a future daughter to honor my great-great-grandmother, [name]Anna[/name] [name]Webber[/name]! I love [name]Anna[/name] - it is the epitome of timeless elegance and classical grace. It is beautiful, sweet, sassy, and fun while still maintaining poise, sophistication, and tradition. Play up the fun with the nickname [name]Annie[/name], or keep things feminine and elegant with the more formal [name]Anna[/name] - I don’t think anyone can lose with the name [name]Anna[/name]!

I don’t think the name is too popular, although classics are going to be used forever and ever, I think. I think part of my reasoning about the name [name]Anna[/name] not being too popular is that I know just one [name]Anna[/name] who actually goes by [name]Anna[/name]! The rest use a nickname, [name]Annie[/name], exclusively, or are named [name]Anne[/name] and go by [name]Annie[/name]. If you choose to call her [name]Anna[/name], as I imagine you might (to go with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]), then I don’t personally think you’ll run into too many little girls named - and called - [name]Anna[/name]. Then again, I’m biased, as popularity doesn’t concern me when its a name I really, truly love, like [name]Anna[/name]…

[name]Anna[/name] has slightly more structure and history than [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name], but I still think it fits. [name]Anna[/name] is certainly more classic than either, but [name]Eva[/name] sounds reminiscent of other classic names, and [name]Tessa[/name] reminds me of [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Theresa[/name], both of which I consider to be classic.

If you want other suggestions, you might like [name]Ayla[/name] - only if you pronounce [name]Eva[/name] as [EE-vah] - or [name]Alla[/name] or [name]Anya[/name]! Or, try [name]Isla[/name]…

Good luck!

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is gorgeous!! [name]Anna[/name] is very popular, and a little too dull for me (that’s just my personal taste) but it’s a much better choice than [name]Lauren[/name]. While [name]Anna[/name] is classic, [name]Lauren[/name] is dated. A [name]Lauren[/name] is most likely 10-25 years old, while I can imagine an [name]Anna[/name] of any age-- a baby, old lady, or in between. I think [name]Anna[/name], [name]Eva[/name], and [name]Tessa[/name] make a beautiful sibset!

[name]Anna[/name] is pretty popular but it isn’t even remotely trendy. I classify it with names like [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]. They never go out of style and are ‘always around’ as you put it. For what it’s worth, I love [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is beautiful. Though it’s a bit more classic than [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name], it gives me the same friendly, appealing sound. I really, really like [name]Anna[/name]!

Good luck

I don’t think [name]Anna[/name] is overused, I think it’s a classic that will always be around. I love the combo [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]! [name]Anna[/name] is cute with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name].

I adore the name [name]Anna[/name], and agree that it is probably one of those names that will always be around. To me, it is timeless and ages very well. It also flows nicely with your other names, all ending in the “a” sound. I find [name]Lauren[/name] to be quite common, but do like the name [name]Laurel[/name]. It puts a spin on such a common name. Honestly, I love the name [name]Anna[/name] but am not too fond of [name]Caroline[/name]. To me [name]Caroline[/name] is dated and too preppy for my taste, especially when paired with [name]Anna[/name]. I like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Kate[/name] (which I really is somewhat preppy), [name]Anna[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]Joy[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]June[/name]. [name]Just[/name] suggestions, but I think going with [name]Anna[/name] is good move!

Thanks for all the feedback! I guess if you love a name, it shouldn’t matter if it’s popular or not. But at least [name]Anna[/name] is not popular in a trendy way, so that’s good! :o) And my name, [name]Kellie[/name], is pretty common, but I always like when I meet someone else with my name, especially if they spell it the same way.

We’ll probably keep discussing the middle name, but I’m thinking [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is pretty close. (I REALLY want it to be [name]Anna[/name] [name]Juliette[/name], but DH just doesn’t care for [name]Juliette[/name] and won’t be convinced otherwise.) I also like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (both family names) but fear that will be too common.

We’re getting close, though!

Thanks again,
[name]Kellie[/name]

I love the name [name]Anna[/name], and so does my husband. We know an [name]Anna[/name]. She is very sweet and pretty. We had her over at our house a lot when she was little.
Since [name]Anna[/name] is in my top three names, I can’t say enough about her. [name]Love[/name] [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]! [name]Love[/name] [name]Anna[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]. And I also love [name]Anna[/name] [name]Meredith[/name]. Our friend [name]Anna[/name]'s middle name is [name]Jane[/name].

My first name is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and I hate it. It’s boring, common, and weak. Give your daughter a unique name, [name_f]Raina[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. Give her a name she can feel is her. I have never felt like an [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t give your daughter a name with an established personality. [name_f]Anna[/name_f]: quiet, calm, pretty, graceful, femeine. Or like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Names like those constrain people and stop them from being who they are. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t make the mistake my parents made. I don’t want your daughter to feel like I always have.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is actually the name of two of my closest friends actually and I always end up calling both of them Annaline, even if I’m only talking to one, but with [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] works better than [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is overused or dated at all, but there are plenty of options with “An” in it to have [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f] (or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Maria[/name_f]), [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] are some off the top of my head. I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a gorgeous combination however, very sweet and timeless.

That’s interesting, because it seems like all the Annas I know are in their teens or twenties. I do know of a little girl named [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] who often goes by [name_f]Ana[/name_f], but I’d say if anything, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] seems more dated than trendy to me.

But that said, it’s been used a lot for a reason. It’s elegant but not frilly, feminine, easy to say and spell, has a pleasant meaning and a long history. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I am honestly a little tired of hearing it because I’ve known so many, it truly is a lovely name. It also goes very well with your other girls’ names, and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a very pretty combo. So if [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is the name you love then I say go for it!

This post is 7 years old.

I agree completely! [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] does feel a lot more dated and will tie your daughter generationally to her age group (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). However, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is not only gorgeous and absolutely PERFECT with both your girl names, it’s also not as common as you might think. I know one [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and one [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and they’re both college-aged. I’ve never met any younger Annas. It’s very timeless and even if there ARE other little Annas running about, it’s better than being one of several little [name_m]Laurens[/name_m] that will eventually be a trendy name of the 2010s. Plus you can never go wrong with a family name, as you will likely never stop loving it!

Go with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! It’s a stunning combination

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a beautiful name. The funny thing about it is that I never think of it as a common name, but I do know quite a few Annas, of all ages. The youngest is a baby and the eldest is 80+.
It goes so well with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]! And [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sounds absolutely lovely to me.
Something else I like is that it conjures up no images of a particular type of person - [name_f]Anna[/name_f] could be anyone, if you see what I mean. No preconceptions or stereotypes
I actually don’t like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] and went to school with several [name_m]Laurens[/name_m]. I’m in my 20s, for reference.
Also, though I do love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] also sounds quite pretty to me (but maybe the two A initials don’t appeal to you?).

It’s weird that this zombie thread got dragged up. If the OP went with it, little [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is 6-7 years old now.

Anyway, fun fact: the statisticians at 538 did an analysis of the ages of people with particular names, and found that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] was the name that gave you the least amount of information about the age of the person. That means that objectively, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is the most timeless girl name - at least currently!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is beautiful!

I have [name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Emery[/name_u] on my own list.

I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and think it goes great with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. It is a true classic and will never go out of style. If you want to add a little twist and use a variation, there is a very pretty Finnish version [name_f]Annalie[/name_f] that could work well. She could go by [name_f]Annalie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. It gives you more choices. I still like it with your other girls’ names.

[name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Annalie[/name_f]

For a middle name I like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f].) I would not suggest [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Annalie[/name_f], because they end in a vowel and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] begins with a vowel and the two names do not flow well when said together.

Nope, not overused, I know like 2 or 3… its a great name
